Early voting trends in New York City show a powerful shift as voters over 55 make up nearly 40% of all early ballots cast, giving senior residents major influence in the three-way mayoral race. Candidate Zohran Mamdani spent the weekend dancing salsa and practicing tai chi with seniors at the LES Cultural Center, aiming to strengthen his connection with the city’s most dependable voting bloc.
Meanwhile, Andrew Cuomo argues the surge in senior turnout benefits his campaign, though Mamdani’s team insists early voters are breaking their way. With record early voting and shifting precinct dynamics, the senior vote may ultimately decide the balance of power across key boroughs.

00:54A lot of times people think cost of living is a young person's issue, but I have heard
01:01from so many seniors of how they are being pushed out of the city that they helped to
01:05build.
01:06So I want to say thank you to all the seniors that are here.
01:10Thank you for having helped make this city what it is.
01:13Yo no hablo espanol, lo siento, solamente en ingles, all I can remember to say in Mandarin
01:21is zemayang, wulahinza mahjongren or English.
01:26In the language we speak, we belong to this city, and this city belongs to us.
01:32I want to thank you.
01:34I want to thank you.
01:36I want to thank everybody.
01:38I'm here for so much of my life.
01:41And Grand Street is the reason I am here.
01:46Thank you, my dear.
01:50I continue to be confident, but will never get complacent.
01:58We have just four days left.
02:00Today I walked into the office, we have a white board that says how many days, I wiped off
02:04five, I wrote in four.
02:07We have people that we look at and understand as New Yorkers, yet they can't even live here
02:14any longer.
02:15And that is a shame.
02:16That is unacceptable.
02:17And it doesn't actually have to be that way.
02:19I'm looking forward to proving that starting January 1st.
02:21Thank you guys.
02:22Thank you guys.
02:23Absolutely.
02:24I think that this has to be a party that actually allows Americans to see themselves in it and
02:29not just be a mirror image of just a few people who are engaged in politics.
02:33And to me, what binds all of us together is who we are fighting to serve, and that is working
02:38people.
02:39And too often, working people have been a footnote in our politics.
02:42It's time to actually bring them to the foreground.
02:44Well, I think we are using every single hour of the day to speak to as many New Yorkers as
02:48possible.
02:49And that means we start the day at a senior center, we end the day at a concert.
02:52We are everywhere and in between.
02:54And that's because New Yorkers live all across these five boroughs.
02:57And we have to make sure we're bringing our case to them, not waiting for them to come
03:00to us.
