00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today it's all about the Tug from Twisted.
00:05A radical reinterpretation of the classic bear bug with significantly more power and off-road capability.
00:12The British tuner Twisted is actually known for its robust conversions.
00:17A classic Defender with off-road tires and a luxurious interior.
00:22But this time the company has surprised everyone with a completely different project.
00:26An elaborately modified VW Beetle that takes the look and philosophy of the bear bugs from the 1960s and gives them a modern twist.
00:36The first bear bugs were created in Southern California and were a homage to the famous off-road race on the Mexican Peninsula of Bahia.
00:46Instead of converting all the components into a Myers-MS plastic body,
00:50hobbyists decided to significantly shorten the Beetle's body and raise the chassis.
00:56This resulted in thousands of converted vehicles,
01:00whose design even achieved cult status as a model car from Tamiya, the Sand Scorcher.
01:06The TBUG from Twisted consistently follows this line.
01:10The wings were cut high to create more ground clearance.
01:14The front hood is shortened, and the new front mask features two closely spaced LED headlights,
01:20giving the car its typical Bavarian look.
01:21Particularly striking is the exposed rear end, showcasing the air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine,
01:29another distinguishing feature of the historic beer bugs.
01:34Twisted claims to have doubled the engine output compared to the production model.
01:39However, the output is still less than 79 horsepower.
01:42While this makes the TBUG a lightweight in terms of power,
01:46thanks to a massively upgraded chassis and large BF Goodrich tires on special rims,
01:51it is clearly built for off-road use.
01:54The focus, however, is not just on the technology.
01:58The interior of the Beetle has also been extensively redesigned
02:01and can be customized according to customer requirements,
02:04in the style of the company's luxurious Defender conversions.
02:07Twisted has not yet revealed how much the conversion will ultimately cost
02:13or how many vehicles will be produced.
02:16This is likely because they first want to gauge demand and technical feasibility.
02:22However, it's clear that a donor Beetle will usually require extensive restoration before being converted.
02:29And since many of the company's Defender conversions cost around 200,000 euros,
02:33the price is to be expected.
02:37The T-Bark is not Twisted's first foray outside the Defender world.
02:42The company has already converted boats and also modified a few Suzuki Jimny's,
02:46which cost around 55,000 euros.
02:50So Twisted is not alone in wanting to expand beyond its original area of expertise.
02:58Singer Design, which is best known for converting the Porsche 911,
03:01is also considering moving into other models,
03:04but so far without any concrete results.
