00:00Mercedes-Benz impressively demonstrated the suitability of its new all-electric VLE for everyday use by having two test vehicles cover the approximately 1,100 km route from Stuttgart to Rome with just two short charging brakes of 15 minutes each.
00:18The demanding route took in winding and steep mountain passes in the Alps, long stretches of motorway, busy country roads and narrow alleys.
00:26Ideal conditions for realistically testing the efficiency, recuperation capability, thermal management and vehicle handling supported by the rear axle steering.
00:39The entire journey took around 13 hours, with the interior constantly air-conditioned at 22 degrees Celsius, with outside temperatures ranging from 11 degrees Celsius in Stuttgart to 33 degrees Celsius in Rome.
00:52Mercedes-Benz is thus continuing to go all out.
00:56Following the presentation of the four-door CLA in mid-March, which has been available to order since 29 April 2025, the first glimpses of the new electric GLC EQ and the AMG Concept GTX followed.
01:08The VLE is now the next development stage on the way to the market launch of the new modular and scalable vehicle architecture in 2026.
01:19This is based on a high-performance 800-volt platform, as is also used by MWEM and AMGEA.
01:28The VLE is expected to offer a range of just over 500 km according to WLTP.
01:33The focus is on efficiency and everyday suitability, from family outings to use as an exclusive VIP shuttle.
01:41With up to eight seats, the VLE covers a wide range, while the VLS, which will follow later, is aimed at customers with the highest demands for luxurious space.
01:51With the start of series production in 2026, a new era begins for Mercedes-Benz vans, in which fully electric Grand Sedans will also be offered in Europe, the USA, Canada and China for the first time.
02:04Test drives such as the one from Stuttgart to Rome are an integral part of an intensive testing program that, in addition to digital validation and test bench tests, also takes extreme weather conditions into account, such as winter testing in Sweden or the trip to the Nordkup.
02:22The insights flow directly into series development to create vehicles that ideally combine design, functionality and user expectations.
