00:00The Modern Primitive is one of the first custom bikes based on the new Gorilla 450 platform and has been showcased at events such as the Bikes Show, Wheels and Waves, Malum and Glamzak.
00:15It was developed by Sideburn, a magazine that has promoted Flatrick racing culture since its founding in 2000 and has contributed significantly to the current form of this scene with its unique content and events such as Dirtquake and Snowquake.
00:30The Modern Primitive is not only a technical statement, but also a cultural homage deeply rooted in Flatrick history.
00:43It is based on the same technical foundation as the Royal Enfield-developed FT450 racer that Gary Bergwist races in the British DTRRA Championship.
00:52The design of the tank is based on a striking tattoo by Stephen Whistle, a well-known Flatrick racer and close friend of the magazine.
01:05The motorcycle's name goes back to an influential book from the 1980s that deals with tattoos and body modification.
01:11The term Modern Primitive plays on the contrast between Modern and Primitive, which is appropriate since the Gorilla 54 is a modern machine from Royal Enfield, but in this interpretation it has been reduced to its essentials.
01:27A puristic street racer that embodies the original essence of a motorcycle.
01:36Technically, the Modern Primitive is based on the Gorilla 450 model and uses a custom-made stainless steel exhaust system from C-Build.
01:44The rear suspension is equipped with an adjustable monoshock from Nitron.
01:52Deceleration is provided at the front by a HELL 4 piston brake caliper, a HELL master cylinder, a CNC machined adapter from Deathcat, and a GR450 brake disc.
02:01At the rear, a two-piston brake caliper from HELL, a matching master cylinder, a custom-made bracket from Settlehard, a racing brake carrier from Lowy Racing, and a racing brake disc are used.
02:17The wheels are from Lowy Racing and are fitted with ARD-1 dirt track tires.
02:21The bodywork consists of a handcrafted aluminum tank and a custom hack from Coba Valley Cycles, complemented by original GER side panels.
02:34The bike was painted by AK Custom Paint, while the graphics are by Imageworks.
02:40The Alcantara seat was made by Holy Goat.
02:44A visual highlight is the design in black over bare aluminum.
02:47Another technical highlight is the custom-made aluminum swingarm from Steelhardt, which is inspired by historical models.
02:59Other details include rental flat rack handlebars, a Motone gourd taillight, smoothed fork legs, carbon fork protectors from Pseudo Cycles, a vintage Harris fuel cap, CNC machined engine mounts, and Buildwell Griffin.
03:12The modern primitive not only shows how versatile the new Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 platform can be,
03:22but also embodies the marriage of motorcycle technology, racing tradition, and cultural expression in every aspect.
