00:54climbing and the traitors are, to quote Celia, playing a very clever game.
00:59They're unbelievable. I don't know how they're doing so well. The faithfuls should be able to
01:05ring someone up just so that that person just answers and gives them a helping hand, just a bit
01:10of a steer in the right direction. See, I love watching them flail. I'll be honest. I think I'm a
01:15traitor at heart. Look, we've got a lot to get through tonight because we need to unpack the
01:19chessboard mission. Nick and Joe Marla's sabotage of that mission. And this is exciting for you,
01:25Jazz, and for me. Sir Stephen Fry will be joining us on the sofa in just a minute.
01:29Oh, my days. Let's rewind to Scotland, where I caught up with the moments after his dramatic
01:34exit from the castle, and I revealed exactly who the traitors are.
01:37Welcome to Uncloaked, Stephen. Thank you, Ed. Nice to be here, in a way.
01:55Yeah, sorry, Ed, under banishment circumstances. How are you feeling post-banishment?
02:00I'm fine. It was inevitable. As the footage will show, I was expecting it.
02:06Let's talk about this big dog theory. Yes. Because that was the theory that it could be
02:11you, it could be Jonathan, because Claudia would pick one of these big dog slash national
02:16traitors. If by that you mean sort of household name status or whatever else, it's all a bit
02:21embarrassing, but yeah, we sort of know what's meant. In that case, there's only Jonathan and
02:27Alan left, really. So it's possible they're traitors. I hadn't really thought either of them
02:32were, but I lost all faith in whatever judgment I thought I had anyway.
02:40You know what's about to happen now? I do.
02:42You're about to find out who the traitors are. I am.
02:44We're going to hold off slightly. I'm going to tease you a little bit longer,
02:47because I want to ask you who you think the traitors are.
02:50Prepare to scoff loudly. I'm going to say Joe Marler, David Olaseko,
02:56and Cat Burns. Okay. Why Joe Marler? You know, at first he presented as quite shy and silent,
03:06but with the odd, amazingly, surprisingly good joke. But he's become so... And he started to have
03:14moments in the round tables where he really steers and pushes and makes things known. Cat,
03:22I just suspect because she keeps so quietly in the background. And David, I... Because he's so smart,
03:31so in control, and I can see him just coolly working out the right person to murder.
03:38Okay. The moment's here, Stephen. Here we go. I'm going to pass you the scroll. One at a time.

03:56Jonathan. F-F-S. I mean... Oh, he played a blinder. We knew he was a super fan.
04:09We knew he knew better than any of us how the game works. But he convinced me he wanted to be a faithful
04:17and then be quoted, as he put it. Can I unfold the next one?

04:35I really am. And I got it for a good reason, as well as an instinct, which was the sleepiness.

05:45I don't think I ever have. And from now on, I'm happy to accept that that's what I am, whether it's a Great Dane or some smelly mongrel with mange.

05:55What made you sign up for the show in the first place, Stephen?
05:58Watching it. I watched the second series. And I was just immediately hooked by the human drama of it.
06:05So when, amazingly, the phone rang, I found myself saying yes.
06:12I've been in television for 40 years, but I don't think I've ever done anything that's had such an incident of it.
06:18Every building site and bus shelter I go on, every taxi ride, every shop I go into, people are saying, oh, so who are you going to vote off?
06:28Who are you going to banish, Stephen? Or they're going to say, can't you see that it's Alan? Surely you can see that it's Alan.
06:35I said, no, I couldn't. And, you know, the public consciousness has been truly excited by this.
06:43Of all the places that you spend time, Stephen, I wouldn't expect you to shout out building sites and bus shelters first.
06:48You walk past them, you know.
06:50Did the reality of being in there, did it differ from what you're expecting?
06:58Yes. You can't really prepare yourself for it, can you? It's an extraordinary feeling.
07:04I think you said a one-liner right on the first episode, which I just thought it described the whole Trader's experience so perfectly.
07:10You went, so we're about to enter a blizzard of horror. And I was just thinking that is exactly what you're about to enter.
07:18Well, this is why on the first episode of Uncloaked, there were a few things you said in that initial episode that you reminded me of some teenage goths I used to hang out with.
07:28It was a blizzard of horror. And then it was it was looking at all of the portraits and everyone's really excited.
07:33And you said, well, they'll be covered in red crosses soon.
07:39Let's talk about the missions. How did you find doing the missions? Did you have any particular favourites?
07:43I have been worried that they would all be a bit like the Trojan horse and involve a huge amount of effort because it was a bit knackering.
07:50Although I was stupidly proud of the fact that I was next to a loose head prop who played for England at rugby football.
07:58And he was as exhausted as I was. His whole job as a loose head prop is to do that, is to push and go like that and grab people's testicles and all the other things that rugby players do.
08:10And kindly, he didn't do that to me. But I didn't want all of them to be too physical.
08:18Yeah, it's traitorous behaviour, grabbing someone's nuts during an issue.
08:22You really threw yourself into the missions.
08:24I did, yeah.
08:25There's that moment where Claudia suddenly gets worried.
08:27Oh no, Stephen Fry's just dipping his head under the water.
08:29And you're just like shoving your head right in the water. It was fantastic.
08:32Yes, I kind of surprised myself really because I didn't really like physical challenges very much as a rule at school.
08:39I'd do anything. I'd give myself asthma attacks to get out of doing any sport or anything like it.
08:45We've just watched the chess mission.
08:47Now, there was quite a lot going on in this mission with last minute team changes and acts of sabotage.
08:52That's right. And Nick had a most peculiar interchange with Joe Marley.
08:56That's right, swapping.
08:58And I never, I couldn't quite understand that.
09:01It was clear that Nick was presenting as someone who was fiercely trying to trap a traitor somehow by doing this.
09:06But I couldn't quite see his working in it.
09:09You came under a little bit of suspicion in the team swap thing there, Stephen, as well,
09:13for seeming a little bit grumpy about having to swap.
09:15I was grumpy.
09:17I was, I was grumpy.
09:19I was so convinced I was going to be murdered that night.
09:21I don't know why, I just had this feeling that my time was up.
09:25I'm not grumpy exactly, but I was like, yeah, a bit put out.
09:31Reflecting on your experience now, Stephen, if you had to choose again, would you ever choose to be a traitor?
09:36I'd like to see if I could do it.
09:37I suppose that's one of the things about traitors, and I'm sure many viewers watching would love to participate.
09:44Not because they want to be famous on television, but because they want to see if they couldn't do it.
09:49I think that's the key to the game, that people just want to play the game, don't they?
09:52Yeah, they really want to.
09:53Assuming it was the first thing you checked when you left the castle,
09:56did you find out how many deaths there were in Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet combined?
10:00I forgot to check, actually.
10:03I'm still going through Tybalt, Mercutio, Paris.
10:07I think you said 13 when you were in there.

10:54As an actor, do you think that gives you an advantage in the game?
10:59No.
10:59I think there was a few people that thought that.
11:02I think that it actually might be a disadvantage.
11:07It's not about how good an actor you are or what kind of actor you are.
11:12It's about the person you are and your ability to, you know, maintain a huge amount of subterfuge, you know.
11:21And I just didn't, I didn't want to do it and I didn't think I could or would be very good at it.
11:26And in terms of subterfuge, you sort of weren't even keeping the fact you were looking at other people to yourself.
11:34Thinking back on that, I don't know.
11:36I just, I wanted to see everybody's face, but yeah, in hindsight, I should have done that more subtly.
11:44I think it was the funeral in particular when I saw you.
11:47I know, I know, I know.
11:48Engine away from people and going.
11:50And then the full head like that.
11:53I know.
11:53And I was just thinking, Mark, can you not just look sideways?
11:56Just do that with your eyes, the full head tilt like an owl.

12:37He is so inscrutable.
12:40Whether he is joking or not, you can never quite tell.
12:45And Nick was another one you thought?
12:47He's very careful with what he says and the way that he says it.
12:52He's been in and out of my kind of peripheral vision as far as traitors are concerned.
12:57As has Alan.
12:58I find Alan and Stephen have a very good, a very strong sort of persona.
13:07That persona kind of would be a very effective shield to stop people getting in.
13:14And Jonathan, for the kind of same reason.
13:17Jonathan is very kind of languid.
13:20It's just anything.
13:21It's anything we can possibly grab.

13:28I would probably say Joe.

16:04If I've learned anything from doing this, it's that I can't really sit back and be cool.

18:11naturally close with.

18:13And you're going to take that personally, but I feel like Joe is playing it perfectly at
18:18the moment.

26:27Another pivotal moment in this episode was Alan forgetting he had a shield.

27:20Now, if you had to pick who to murder next, out of Kate, Lucy or Nick, who do you think you would murder if you were in the traitors' shoes?
27:28Well, I would see Nick as the biggest threat.
27:30Nick's the biggest threat, definitely.
27:31And Lucy did say, forget the double bluff and the triple bluff and everything else.
27:36It's Jonathan.

27:37Yeah, that was an amazing moment where Lucy finally twigs.
27:41What if it's just the most obvious?

27:47Kate's had heat on her a few times throughout the show so far.
27:53So I think that's quite a useful thing for them to have still around.

27:58Do you think the heat on Kate's sort of worn off a bit?
28:00Now people realise that is just genuinely her personality.
28:03There is an openness about her.
28:04And I think we certainly see now that the things that made her suspicious to begin with, to some,
28:10you know, the slight over-the-top and the big laugh and everything, is just her character.

28:15We've got used to that.
28:16I love that moment in the chess mission where she's voted as weakest player and she's delighted.
