00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:22Today we're talking about a very special vehicle, the Electrified Plymouth GTX Reston by Mopar.
00:30Before we delve deeper into the topic, I'd be happy if you subscribed to the channel.
00:36That way, you'll always be up to date.
00:39The Mopar shop has come up with something unique for this year's Samash Show.
00:44An electric Plymouth GTX from 1967, which has been converted with a so-called E-CRADE kit.
00:51This concept shows the direction that Mopar is taking with the E-CRADE technology for
00:55its legendary E&B body models.
00:59With this conversion, owners of classic cars can retain the classic charm of their vehicles
01:03while still being emission-free.
01:06Visually, this GTX is impressive and is considered by many to be the most beautiful restom project
01:12that has been seen in recent times.
01:15However, die-hard fans of the raw muscle feeling might be a little disappointed by the output
01:21of 335 horsepower, especially since the car only has a standard range of 250 miles.
01:31Mopar has modernized the classic GTX look with a number of subtle but powerful changes.
01:36A particularly striking highlight are the widened wheel arches, which provide the perfect stage
01:41for the vintage bronze rims and Pirelli Pissarero tires.
01:47The dual-side mirrors, the flip-up fuel cap, accents on the carbon hood and the low-slung
01:51front splitter provide visual accents that clearly set this show car apart from a standard
01:55GTX.
02:00Also new are the smooth-finished bumpers and the black trim strips, which blend in perfectly
02:04with the frost blue paintwork.
02:07The GTX was originally introduced in 1967 as a sporty luxury version of the Belvedere and
02:13combined high performance with sophisticated style.
02:18Mopar has created a modern, high-quality interior with great attention to detail, which preserves
02:23the character of the car and has been enhanced with new materials and features.
02:29The basic layout is based on the original.
02:33The dashboard and door panels in particular exude the flair of the original design.
02:39The new seats, steering wheel and center console, on the other hand, offer a fresh, modern look
02:44and underline the high-quality claim of the conversion.
02:49Thanks to the three-point suspension and powerful wheelwood brakes on all four wheels,
02:53the car can now also be driven in a modern manner and lives up to its design promise and practice.
03:02At the heart of this electric GTX beats the Scalable Battery Electric Conversion Kit, which
03:06comprises a 400-volt drive with 250 kilowatts and contains four battery packs with a total
03:12of 384 lithium-ion cells.
03:16The system provides a capacity of 73 kWh.
03:21The electric drive is housed under the hood and generates an output of 335 horsepower with
03:26a gear ratio of 3 by 1.
03:29Unfortunately, MA itself has not released any figures for Newton-meters of torque, which makes
03:35it curious how the car performs in this regard.
03:39Visually, Mopa has created a clean solution with its own engine cover that borrows from
03:44the powerful Hellcat and Demon models.
03:50Much like Chevrolet's E-Cradle conversions, Mopa's concept offers a quick way to achieve
03:54a zero-emission vehicle with classic muscle car charm.
03:59However, this technology is primarily intended for E&B body Chrysler vehicles, such as the
04:05Challenger, the Cuda, the Belvedere, the Coronet and the Charger.
04:11The downside for traditionalists is that the power and weight of the conversion can't quite
04:14match the performance of the classic models.
04:17At 335 horsepower, the GTX only reaches the level of a 383 cubic inch Chrysler B engine
04:28with four carburetors from the years 1968 to 79.
04:33That's quite a downgrade when you consider that the original GTX with the 440 cubic inch
04:37engine put out 375 horsepower and the optional Hemerionte even reached 4h5 horsepower.
04:47The batteries are no lightweight either.
04:50At 230p each, this drivetrain is almost as heavy as a Hemi engine.
04:58While it would be entirely possible to extract more power from the old engines, even with
05:02relatively simple modifications and a bit of time, there is still hope that the scalable
05:06system of the new electric drives might be able to offer even more performance in the
05:10future.
05:13Whether that justifies the price and the additional mass, however, remains to be seen.
05:18In the end, the conclusion is mixed.
05:21Mopa has created a breathtakingly beautiful GTX here, which shines with zero emissions and
05:26a modern design.
05:29At the same time, however, the concept lacks the raw power that this vehicle originally embodied.
05:35At least you save a lot of money on charging and protect the environment.
05:39Something that the classic model could not offer, of course.
05:45But considering that Dodge announced the all-electric Daytona version of the charger to increase
05:49both performance and efficiency, it would have been only fitting if this GTX had also outdone
05:54itself a bit.
05:59Purists may still find it easier and cheaper to achieve more power and range with original engines.
