00:00Ja!
00:30Ja!
00:47So for the new BMW M4 it was important for us to focus on the most important elements emphasized the kidney and made it main feature in the front bigger.
01:00The bonnet is very powerful, typical Trapnel M graphic down here creates big air intake in the front.
01:22We know the theme from others but now even bigger surface on the side helps bring airflow into the air curtain on the side goes on the wheels.
01:30The car tracks the series car.
01:36Driving stability but also great for design because the car gets better stance.
01:42To emphasize this, we have a crease line here in the wheel arch in the front.
01:46So the car really sits on the road.
01:50When we go back in the back of the car, we have the same sharp line in the front.
01:55Dividing surface allows us to make very emotional surfaces on the wheel.
02:02Also a new thing is the black rocker which goes from the front to the rear.
02:10It makes the car more lightweight and also designed very small radius and very flat surface makes it look like a blade.
02:20In the rear also focus on the most important elements exhaust pipes.
02:32The double round exhaust pipes are familiar with all our M cars.
02:38All the surfaces help to emphasize them.
02:43They are bigger than the predecessor and they are embedded in a very large diffuser.
02:49And the two fins on the side go directly into the carbon fiber where you also have the same fins in the roof.
02:57So the M4 is a simple and bold statement.
03:02All the MIs are polarizing and they are not necessarily pleasing everyone.
03:14Yes.
03:22Iced over identically in their external perimeter geometry on the race car.
03:26They've been opened up internally for the care and feeding of the racing engine.
03:39But ultimately it's still the same geometry on the on the perimeter and it's also very very similar at the front with the trapezoidal sort of lower mouth of the car.
03:51And I think together with those elements, the headlights also have this kind of very strong forward inclination.
03:58Um, and that's also referencing um the new M4.
04:02Um, but um carrying it slightly further and giving it a little bit even more determined uh expression.
04:09And for a race car, I think that's entirely appropriate given the purpose of it.
04:14Also, at the front um we have a reference to the air curtain from the new M4.
04:21But in this sense we've actually installed corner lights for improved visibility at super high speeds during endurance races.
04:31And um this boomerang shape is actually the same as the shadow that's created on the new M4 surface.
04:39But for the race car, this contour is incredibly important for the aerodynamic performance um at elevated speeds but also um at different um angles of yaw.
04:49And so that's one of the reasons this corner is a bit different than on the M4.
04:57Another important aerodynamic element of the race car is the front splitter.
05:02And that front splitter creates quite a bit of downforce, but it's also essential to the feed of the underfloor, which is also an incredibly important aerodynamic component.
05:12But that front splitter transitions around to the side and you can see that same carbon fiber construction carries over to the rocker panel.
05:22And that rocker panel actually continues in a graphical way all the way to the back and serves to thin the car in terms of the overall proportion in terms of how you would read it from a distance.
05:35There's also a kick on the race car that gives a little bit of a forward inclination to that lower graphic.
05:44I noticed I mean this is something that we already know from the M8 TTE and we have also implemented it in the production car the black element to give it more of a lightweight feeling right.
05:55It helps the proportion.
06:02I think the other aspect of the new M4 production car is that it has this kind of continuous loop um from the alar down to the air breather detail on the body side and then down into the lower feature line of the body side and the race car picks up on that exact same constellation.
06:21Um, you'll notice we actually don't have an explicit air breather, but rather an entire um area dedicated to letting exhaust air out of this area of the car.
06:32Um, but the contour of that line is referenced directly from the new M4.
06:38And so, it has that continuity that ties the car together, but also helps to kind of structure it the way, exactly the way it does on the production car.
06:48It also looks like you are carrying over the roof.
06:50Um hum.
06:51Yep.
06:52The geometry of the roof and the rear glass is identical to the M4 production car, including the fins, but also this very flat rear glass.
07:02And that very flat rear glass is essential to an efficient feeding of the rear wing.
07:07And that's what makes the new M4 such a great basis for the race car is that the rear wing, which balances all of the downforce that we gained at the front with the front splitter around with this rear wing.
07:28Car Nautic production car writes so biggest difference is defined by added width so the car is about 75mm wider per side than the production car and so because of that we have the very generous fender flare but yeah, it creates a wider constellation at the rear.
07:51The lights are carried over from the production car.
07:54This geometry is all um identical.
07:57We do have some added technical elements for serviceability.
08:01This is these are quick releases for this rear deck lid.
08:04This whole rear diffuser area pops off for easier replacement in case of race damage.
08:10And then when we move across to the diffuser, you'll see this is all open whereas on the production car it's more closed.
08:18That's to evacuate more heat and up pressure build up.
08:21Um, we have the diffuser strikes and fins.
08:26And then where the production car has the reflector, we actually have an air outlet for the rear wheel arch but the line very much references the production car quite literally.
08:37ALR I mean this shows quite clearly how two cars are developed from the road to the raced road.
08:51Yeah.
08:52And I think it also demonstrates how great of a basis the M4 production car is to become a race car.
09:04It has such iconic elements and it also has geometry that really lends itself to being a high performance efficient platform for a race car and I think we can both be proud.
09:14Yeah, it's very exciting and I think both cars are seshing.
09:18Cool.
