00:00Welcome to a closer look at the Phoenix Suns' heartbreaking one-point loss on their home court.
00:06The Phoenix Suns returned home, offering fans a different perspective on their performance,
00:10yet they faced another defeat, this time losing 114-113 to the Memphis Grizzlies.
00:16One notable change in this game was that the Suns did not fall behind by 20 points at any stage,
00:22which had been a recurring issue in their previous matches. They managed to hold a
00:26four-point lead at halftime, having allowed only 49 points in the first half. This was a
00:32significant improvement compared to the 69.5 points that their opponents had averaged against
00:37them in the first halves of their initial four games. However, the Suns continued to struggle
00:42with ball control, which has been a persistent problem. In the second half they committed 13
00:46turnovers, resulting in 26 points for the Grizzlies. Overall the Suns allowed 37 points from 20 turnovers
00:53throughout the game, a situation that is particularly detrimental when two of their
00:57top three players, Jalen Green and Dylan Brooks, were unavailable. Additionally, the game highlighted
01:04a new challenge for the Suns, managing timeouts effectively. With around six minutes remaining
01:09in the fourth quarter, they experienced a chaotic defensive possession. Phoenix left Jalen
01:14Wells unguarded in the right corner, allowing him to sink a three-pointer right in front of the Phoenix
01:19bench. This shot resulted in Devin Booker being called for a foul, and it increased the Grizzlies'
01:27lead to seven points. With only two timeouts remaining, head coach Jordan Ott was encouraged to utilize his
01:34last challenge, which would also require a timeout. Since Booker was not in foul trouble, and Wells had
01:40already made the three-pointer, the decision to use the timeout and challenge was questionable.
01:45Ultimately, the Suns lost the challenge, Wells, converted the free throw, and the Grizzlies' lead
01:51grew to eight. However, the Suns began to close the gap. With just two minutes left in the fourth
01:56quarter, the Suns were down by only one point. During a critical possession an inaccurate pass aimed
02:02at Booker forced him to dive to the floor to regain control of the ball. In the process, he instinctively
02:07called for their final timeout with only 2.7 seconds left on the shot clock. Following the timeout,
02:13Royce O'Neal made a turnover due to a poor pass, and just seven seconds later, rookie Cedric Coward
02:20scored a basket. A three-pointer from Dagger put Memphis ahead by four points. Following a dunk by
02:26Mark Williams with just 51 seconds remaining, the Suns went on a 5-0 scoring run to regain the lead.
02:32However, Memphis was not finished. Jay Morant made a crucial shot in the lane with only 7.6 seconds
02:37left, putting them back in front. Typically the Suns would have called a timeout at that point to
02:42advance the ball, but O'Neal took an unusual amount of time to inbound the ball, allowing Memphis to set
02:47up their defense. Devin Booker's contested three-pointer from 28 feet, missed the mark, sealing
02:53the game. Despite the loss, there were some bright spots. Booker had a strong performance in the second
02:59half, O'Neal showcased his three-point shooting, and Mark Williams recorded a double-double with 20 points
03:05and 12 rebounds in his first start. Overall, the game highlighted several teachable moments and
03:10learning opportunities for a young team and coaching staff that will likely encounter many
03:15such experiences throughout the season. So, what do you believe is the Suns' biggest takeaway from this
03:20tough, winnable game?
