00:00It was a tight race between the centrist Liberal D66 and Far-Right Party for Freedom as the first results came in for the Dutch parliamentary election, with a difference of just 2,000 votes in the early morning.
00:15Both parties are set to receive 26 seats in the 150-seat House of Representatives.
00:21It was a big win for the Liberal D66 party, led by Rob Jette, coming from just nine seats in Parliament to becoming one of the biggest parties.
00:31For Geert Wilder's BVV, it was a setback, going down from 37 seats and a landslide victory in the 2023 election.
00:39At the same time, smaller parties on the radical right, including Ja 21 and the Forum for Democracy, made big wins.
00:47And with a result of 20 seats, the loss of five seats dealt a significant blow to the Green-Left Labour Party, whose leader Frans Dimmermans stepped down shortly after the exit poll.
00:58So while the big win for the Liberals shows a trend towards the centre, continued support for the right remains strong, presenting a difficult task in the formation of a coalition in the coming months.

01:17U.S. President Donald Trump returned to Washington after a face-to-face meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday.
01:25Trump called the meeting a success and said he would cut tariffs on China.
01:30In return, Beijing agreed to allow for the export of rare earth minerals and would start buying American soybeans.
01:37Trump had implemented the tariffs as a punishment on China for selling chemicals used to make fentanyl in the U.S.
02:06In response, China hit back by imposing additional export restrictions on its rare earth minerals.
02:13While these controls were initially a response to U.S. tariffs, the EU had become collateral damage in the dispute.
02:20Chinese President Xi Jinping admitted the U.S. and China did not see, quote, eye-to-eye with each other at times,
02:27adding that it was normal that two leading economies have friction from time to time.
02:31However, he said that China and the U.S. are able to help each other succeed and prosper together.
02:39Trump announced that he will travel to China in April and also invited Xi for a visit to the United States.
02:45Two suspects in the dual heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris have partially admitted their participation according to Paris prosecutor Lorbe Kieu.
03:00The two men are expected to be held in provisional detention.
03:05They are currently in court of presentation in front of the magistrates and instructors in view of their assessment for the infractions of flying in the U.S.
03:14in organized band organized, crimes that are encouraging the penalty of 15 years of criminal detention and a strong amende.
03:24In the same way, the qualification of association of malfaiteurs has been obtained.
03:30One suspect is a 34-year-old arrested on Saturday night at Charles de Gaulle Airport with a one-way ticket to Algeria.
03:43The other suspect, 39, is known to police for several thefts and his DNA was found at the scene.
03:50It took the thieves less than eight minutes to steal the jewels valued at 88 million euros on the 19th of October.
04:00Big tech spending on Brussels lobbying hits record high, according to a report published by NGOs Corporate Europe Observatory and Lobby Control.
04:12The tech industry is spending some 151 million annually on lobbying in Brussels, a rise of more than 50% when compared to four years ago.
04:21The tech industry is spending more on lobbying than any other industry.
04:25The top 10 tech companies spent almost 50 million euros this year, compared to 43 million euros for the top 10 pharma, finance and car companies combined.
04:34Top spenders include Meta at 10 million euros and Microsoft and Apple at 7 million euros each.
04:40The EU is talking about deregulation, watering down essential rules, protecting data privacy, protecting against unfair AI systems.
04:54So big tech is set to profit from that moment by increasing its spending and trying to water down those rules as much as possible.
05:02In the first half of 2025, big tech has met with high-level European Commission staff almost 150 times, which is more than one meeting for every working day, the report says.
05:14AI was the most lobbied issue.
05:16Other topics discussed include data centers, the cloud, the Digital Services Act, as well as the Digital Markets Act.
05:23This increasing lobbying effort comes as pressure on the European Commission from the US administration to change its online platform and AI rules has gone up as well.
05:33We see that crucial safeguards, digital safeguards, are under threat from two sides.
05:40On the one hand, we have this deregulation agenda from the European Commission.
05:45But on the other hand, big tech has been able to make a deal with the Trump administration to aggressively push back against the EU's digital legislation.
05:55The pressure led to a debate about posing the AI Act, a set of rules that aim to regulate AI systems according to the risks they pose to society.
06:04Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Cuba early Wednesday with 193 km per hour winds after battering Jamaica as one of the Atlantic's strongest recorded hurricanes.
06:21Melissa made landfall near Chivirico in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
06:25The storm was expected to generate a surge of up to 3.6 metres in the region and drop up to 51 centimetres of rain in parts of eastern Cuba.
06:38Authorities said they evacuated over 700,000 people as the storm approached, threatening to batter the island nation and potentially worsen its severe economic crisis.
06:51Meanwhile, as Cuba grapples with the storm, officials in Jamaica prepared to fan out on Wednesday to assess the damage.
07:00The government said it hopes to reopen all of Jamaica's airports as early as Thursday to ensure the quick distribution of emergency relief supplies.
07:11At least seven people, including three in Jamaica, have been killed by Hurricane Melissa as it batters the Caribbean.
07:21When we say it's virtual, it means you draw the pastures in the mobile application.
07:40And then instead of the animals, when they graze, instead of them meeting a physical boundary, they are faced with an audio cue and potentially an electric cue that will tell them that they're crossing the boundary.
07:53The farmers save time from doing less mending and moving of fences, which is a big input factor in how they manage their animals.
08:12But beyond this, you also get better utilization of your land, get meaning less spend on forage and supplement feed.
08:22Current result doesn't show any difference from traditional electric fences.
08:45I think it's looking into the behavior of animals and also looking into the stress levels of the animal, the cortisol level that is a stress hormone.
08:56I think it's very important for the future to have a really clear definition of what type of function should the virtual fence include.
09:26To have a high level of animal welfare because it should be easy for the animal to do the right behavior.
09:35And if the system is built in certain ways, it could be bad for the animals, really.
09:45They need to have time to turn around on the audio cue, for example.
