00:00Welcome to our video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog, where we introduce the latest 7th generation BMW 3 Series.
00:15The video footage shows both the pre-facelift and the facelift versions of this vehicle.
00:20However, the information relates exclusively to the LCI facelift from 2024.
00:25The 7th generation of the BMW 3 Series continues to set the standard in its class in terms of driving dynamics.
00:34Following a facelift in July 2022, there was another minor update in the summer of 2024.
00:40No other model from the Munich-based automaker expresses driving pleasure better than the BMW 3 Series, the heart of the brand.
00:47Especially when compared to the Mercedes C-Class, which is designed for comfort and luxury, or the Audi A4, which is almost boring with its perfection,
00:58the 7th generation of the sedan maintains its sporty top spot in the mid-size class.
01:04The exterior design of the 3 Series has remained largely classic after the last facelift.
01:09The sides have remained completely untouched, while the front looks more angular and energetic.
01:16LED headlights are fitted as standard.
01:19However, there are no more fog lights at the front.
01:23The redesigned bumper is noticeable at the rear, which now stands out more and, unlike before, is no longer a uniform part of the body.
01:30The facelift has left the most traces on the inside.
01:37As with the X1 and i1 models or the current 2 Series, a slightly concave display now dominates the interior, on which most of the controls take place.
01:47However, some haptic elements have been retained compared to the X1.
01:51Such as the typical BMW rotary wheel on the center armrest or the buttons on the steering wheel.
01:57The stronger focus on the multimedia experience in the cockpit is nevertheless clearly noticeable.
02:02The BMW 3 Series range currently includes 4 petrol engines and 4 diesel engines with an output range between 150 hp and 286 hp.
02:12In addition, there is the pure 6-cylinder petrol engine with 374 hp and the 340 hp pure 6-cylinder diesel for the M Performance versions.
02:24In addition, only one plug-in hybrid is available, the 330A with a system output of 292 hp.
02:32The M3 competition models are at the forefront in terms of performance and dynamics, now with 530 hp.
02:38This shows how seriously BMW still takes the topic of sportiness.
02:43It is not for nothing that the Bavarian manufacturer has once again integrated electronic character control and, for the first time, installed an electronic limited slip differential on the rear axle.
02:54In addition, the engineers have managed to remove around 50 kg of weight from the vehicle.
03:00Particularly impressive is the revised chassis, which now offers a 3 cm wider track and a 1 cm lower center of gravity.
03:08The new dampers, equipped with an additional piston, provide 50% more damping.
03:16However, anyone who values sporty driving must choose the model with M chassis, as the previous sports and luxury variants have been discontinued with the new facelift.
03:25Thanks to the balanced 50% axle load distribution and the direct variable sports steering, the sedan in a state can be maneuvered through curves with ease and shine without standing, safe handling.
03:38The brakes also provide reliable grip.
03:45The sedan's trunk offers the same capacity as the previous model at 480 L.
03:51However, the luggage volume is slightly smaller in the plug-in hybrid, as the drive battery has been positioned under the trunk.
03:57A positive feature is that a 40 40ths folding rear seat is now standard.
04:06The 3 Series Touring is still available for those requiring more space.
04:11BMW has significantly improved the acoustics of the 3 Series, which are both higher and measurable compared to its predecessor.
04:17The test car was also equipped with the optional double-glazed front side windows, an extra that is still affordable at 200 euros.
04:28At a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, a noise level of 66.4 dB EL was measured for the diesel.
04:35A plug-in hybrid tested before the facelift also achieved a similarly good result at 66.0 dB.
04:43The engines remain discreetly in the background.
04:46Even under low load or at high engine speeds, they are audible, but never annoying.
04:53Also on board is an intelligent personal assistant, which is linked to the voice control system in a similar way to Amazon Alexa and responds to the command,
05:01Hey BMW!
05:01What works quite well in the home environment, however, still shows weaknesses in the car, as misunderstandings occasionally occur.
05:11On the other hand, the parking assistant with reversing function works excellently.
05:16If you get into a tight spot from which you can't move forward, the 3 Series will steer the last 50 meters back at walking pace at the push of a button.
05:25The driver only has to brake if necessary.
05:27While the tested 320d diesel remains unchanged in the model range, the plug-in hybrid 330A has significant innovations.
05:38The system output has been increased from 252 horsepower to 2299 horsepower, which further emphasizes the sporty impression of the hybrid.
05:47The smooth interaction between the petrol engine and the electric motor is particularly impressive.
05:53The transitions between the drive types are so seamless that you hardly notice them.
05:57It is often not immediately apparent whether the car is currently running on electricity or the petrol engine.
06:05According to BMW, the pure power consumption is between 22 and 246 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers, supplemented by 0.9 to 1.2 liters of gasoline.
06:16With an empty battery, BMW states that the gasoline consumption is 7.4 to 8.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
06:22The purely electric range, which was 57 kilometers before the revision, has been increased to 85 to 101 kilometers thanks to the larger battery.
06:34Thanks to these improvements, the plug-in hybrid offers greater flexibility and adapts even better to individual driving requirements.
06:41Here, the personal driving profile plays a decisive role in the purchase decision.
06:47Commuters could drive almost exclusively with zero local emissions with the 330e, which is also available with all-wheel drive.
06:56For frequent drivers who often cover long distances on the motorway, the 320d is likely to be the better choice.
07:04In the summer of 2024, BMW gave the 3 Series sedan another refresh.
07:09The innovations include new paint colors and steering wheels.
07:15The updated iDrive operating system allows ventilation and air conditioning functions to be controlled via voice command or via the touchscreen.
07:23The plug-in hybrid 330e with a system output of 2.92 horsepower has been equipped with a larger battery.
07:31The 19.5 kilowatts battery offers a range of 85 to 101 kilometers.
07:36With all-wheel drive, it is 81 to 96 kilometers.
07:40In addition, the charging capacity has been increased to 11 kilowatts, which enables shorter charging times.
07:47The M3 competition models with all-wheel drive have also received an update.
07:51The output has increased by 20 horsepower to 530 horsepower, accompanied by 650 newton meters of torque.
07:58The sprint from 0 to 100 takes an impressive 3.5 seconds.
08:04The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour, but can be increased to 290 kilometers per hour with the optional M Drivers Package.
