00:00U.S. President Donald Trump returned to Washington after a face-to-face meeting with Chinese leader
00:07Xi Jinping on Thursday. Trump called the meeting a success and said he would cut tariffs on China.
00:14In return, Beijing agreed to allow for the export of rare earth minerals and would start
00:19buying American soybeans. I thought it was an amazing meeting. He's a great leader,
00:26a leader of a very powerful, very strong country, China. And what can I say? We have
00:36it was an outstanding group of decisions, I think, that was made.
00:43Trump had implemented the tariffs as a punishment on China for selling chemicals used to make
00:48fentanyl in the U.S. In response, China hit back by imposing additional export restrictions on its
00:55rare earth minerals. While these controls were initially a response to U.S. tariffs,
01:00the EU had become collateral damage in the dispute. Chinese President Xi Jinping admitted the U.S.
01:07and China did not see, quote, eye to eye with each other at times, adding that it was normal that two
01:12leading economies have frictioned from time to time. However, he said that China and the U.S. are able
01:19to help each other succeed and prosper together. Trump announced that he will travel to China
01:25in April and also invited Xi for a visit to the United States.
