02:56Welcome to our latest video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog, where we introduce you to the breathtaking Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed.
03:18The most expensive SL to date to be launched without a windshield.
03:22Only 250 examples of this small series version will be produced, making the Pure Speed one of the most exclusive vehicles.
03:29Despite the lack of a traditional windshield, the vehicle remains clearly recognizable as a Mercedes-AMG SL, but with a striking halo design reminiscent of Formula One.
03:41The final version of this unique model presents itself in a spectacular shape that is undoubtedly reserved for the high-priced privileged clientele.
03:49The exact price remains under wraps for the time being, which further underlines its exclusivity.
03:57The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed celebrates its world premiere at the Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi and is the first model in the highly limited Mercedes-Benz Mythos series.
04:08This series stands for the principle of less car for more money, a concept that can also be seen with other manufacturers such as Porsche with the numerous special editions of the 911.
04:19AMG boss Michael Schieb is extremely enthusiastic about the Pure Speed.
04:26The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed is the most direct way to experience performance and driving pleasure.
04:32With its radically open design, neither the roof nor the windscreen separate the driver and front passenger from the elements.
04:37They can experience the vehicle, the road and the landscape unfiltered with all their senses.
04:43The Pure Speed thus combines the traditional strengths of AMG.
04:46Highly emotional and very high-performance vehicles that inspire, both at first glance and behind the wheel.
04:53This emotional touch clearly sets the Pure Speed apart from the rather under-emotional C63 with plug-in hybrid.
05:01The design of the Speedstar impresses with its low silhouette, a long bonnet and a significantly lowered front section with a pronounced shark nose.
05:08This high fishy front is reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG one with a broadly accentuated air intake and the iconic AMG lettering as well as a darkly outlined Mercedes star.
05:20The aerodynamically optimized bonnet and the small, partially transparent deflectors at the front and sides minimize annoying air turbulence and improve driving stability.
05:34Aerodynamically sharply defined exposed carbon elements in the lower part of the vehicle form a strong contrast to the sensuous rounded shapes of the upper part of the vehicle.
05:42The bootlet and the rear diffuser are also aerodynamically optimized and take into account the missing roof, giving the Pure Speed an unmistakable silhouette.
05:56The Pure Speed's 21-inch forged aluminium wheels are characterized by carbon fiber cladding on the front and rear axles.
06:03The rear claddings are completely closed to reduce drag, while the front ones are open to direct the airflow at the front of the car and optimize brake cooling.
06:19The precise work of the design team is also evident in the side skirts with aero and the muscular shoulders above the rear wheels, which merge elegantly into the boot lid and the wide rear aprons.
06:28This sophisticated design not only ensures a breathtaking look, but also a significant improvement in aerodynamics and performance.
06:41The chassis of the Pure Speed consists of an aluminium space frame with a self-supporting structure supplemented by other high-quality materials such as aluminium, magnesium, fiber composites and steel.
06:52Carbon parts are strategically used on the aerodynamic elements of the front, rear apron and side skirts as well as on the paneling behind the seats in order to minimize weight and maximize performance.
07:08Active aerodynamic elements include the extendable rear spoiler, which adjusts its position to five different angles depending on driving speed, longitudinal and lateral acceleration as well as steering speed.
07:19From a speed of 80 km per hour, the spoiler can either improve driving stability or reduce drag, depending on the respective driving conditions.
07:34Active aerodynamics are also concealed in the underbody in front of the engine.
07:38A 2 kg carbon profile reacts to the setting of the AMG drive programs and automatically extends approximately 40 mm downwards at a speed of 80 km per hour.
07:52This creates the so-called Venturi effect, which additionally sucks the car onto the road and reduces lift on the front axle.
07:58Additional aerodynamic elements on the underbody, similar to those of the AMG GT63 Pro, compensate for the absence of the roof and improve downforce.
08:10In addition, a lift system on the front axle ensures that the exclusive Roadstar remains protected from curbs and other obstacles.
08:17Under the hood of the pure speed is an impressive V8 biturbo engine with a displacement of 4L, which produces 585 horsepower and offers a torque of 800 Nm.
08:31The sprint from a standstill to a speed of 100 km per hour is achieved in just 3.6 seconds and the top speed is 315 km per hour.
08:40The 9-speed transmission replaces the conventional torque converter with a wet start-up clutch.
08:48In addition, all-wheel drive is now standard in the purist Roadstar segment from AMG.
08:54The pure speed relies on a chassis with semi-active hydraulic sidewall stabilization, in which active hydraulic elements replace the classic mechanical anti-roll bars.
09:05Rear axle steering also ensures exceptional driving dynamics.
09:10The brake system of the pure speed consists of a ceramic composite brake system with 6-piston fixed discs on the front axle and single-stage floating discs at the rear as standard.
09:22These are painted black and feature white AMG logos, which not only ensure excellent braking performance but also look impressive.
09:31A special highlight of the pure speed is the Halo system, which replaces the conventional A-pillars.
09:36This system, which has been found in every Formula 1 vehicle since 2018, protects the driver's head in the event of an accident.
09:45In the pure speed, it consists of a tubular steel bar that is connected to the body shell of the vehicle.
09:51The rollover protection system also includes two rigid roll bars, which are hidden under the scoops behind the seats and are also part of the body shell.
10:01The halo is indirectly illuminated on its underside with two narrow LED strips, which not only offers additional safety but also gives the vehicle a futuristic look.
10:14The pure speed is also equipped with two aerodynamically optimized helmets, which are painted in the body color and have an intercom communication system.
10:27This system enables the driver and front passenger to communicate clearly with each other, even at high speeds.
10:34In addition, smartphones can be paired with the intercom system, allowing calls and music to be made via the helmet speakers.
10:41AMG has also paid attention to numerous other design details that are intended as a homage to motorsport.
10:50The two scoops behind the seats are reminiscent of the legendary 300 SLR and underline the pure speed's racing DNA.
11:00For those who want to further personalize the vehicle's appearance, the optional motorsport styling package offers a pink finish with a color gradient from lemon red to graffiti gray with a black IMG pattern.
11:11This color scheme is reminiscent of the Mercedes winning car at the Sicilian Tagaflorio motor race exactly 100 years ago.
11:23Interestingly, that racing car was painted red, a color that was reserved for Italian makes at the time, while German racing cars were traditionally painted white.
11:31The red paintwork was intended to prevent the German vehicle from being obstructed by Italian motorsport Tifosi.
11:39This strategic approach paid off, as the Mercedes 2-liter racing car with starting number 10 crossed the finish line first, driven by Christian Werner.
11:52The starting number 10 can also be found on the front wings of the motorsport styling package and is a reminder of the historic victory 100 years ago.
12:02Inside, the pure speed presents itself in an elegant combination of white and black.
12:07The performance seats are equipped with a multi-contour seat function and climate control, which offers maximum comfort and optimum support.
12:17The area behind the seats is designed with carbon and lends the interior an exclusive touch.
12:25Deep pile floor mats, leather door sill panels and an IWC analog watch specially designed for this vehicle underline the luxurious character of the interior.
12:33A Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers and a system output of 1170 watts ensures an impressive sound experience.
12:47In the center console, there is a plaque with the inscription 1 out of 250, impressively highlighting the limited edition of the legendary model.
12:55To ensure that the pure speed remains protected even in bad weather, a weather protection cover is included.
13:03Traditionally, this is stretched over the interior, including the halo, and attached to the wheel arches.
13:08In addition, every customer receives a tailor-made AMG indoor car cover, which protects the car from environmental influences and further emphasizes the exclusive character of the pure speed.
