00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at resilient video game enemies that are pretty
00:14hard for players to kill.
00:16But we won't be including any bosses on this list.
00:26Number 30, Mutators, Dead Island 2.
00:34There are all kinds of undead variants you're confronted by in Dead Island 2.
00:38Some are beefier than others, but the mutators are by far the most formidable.
00:43They look like regular zombies at first, until they obviously mutate into the stuff of nightmares.
00:49These horrid enemies have no weaknesses and have multiple attacks to wield against you
00:53from a variety of ranges.
00:55They're also ridiculously durable, so you may as well get used to using your most powerful
00:59resources against them.
01:01The one saving grace and what keeps them low on the list is that you can kill them before
01:05they mutate.
01:06If you don't, you'll wish you had.
01:09Number 29, Giant Krabs, Dark Souls 3.
01:19Some software's games are full of foes that become notorious among players.
01:24As far as non-bosses go, the Giant Krabs in Dark Souls 3 are certainly some of the hardest
01:29to kill.
01:30Just because they're giant doesn't mean they're slow, as they'll come scuttling
01:33up to you as soon as they lay their eyes on you.
01:36And as you might expect, those pinchers are absolutely brutal, pummeling you into the earth
01:41unless your parry or dodge timing is perfect.
01:44Seasoned players know how to deal with them now, but there's a reason they became so
01:47infamous, as they'll kill you multiple times in a row before you realize how to retaliate.
01:52Or just avoid them altogether.
02:03Number 28, Super Battle Droids, Star Wars Republic Commando.
02:16Better get used to seeing a lot of bullet sponges on this list.
02:19Since Republic Commando gives you no lightsaber or force powers to wield, you'll find you
02:24have plenty of tough enemies to go up against.
02:27Chief among them are the Super Battle Droids.
02:29Whatever type of metal these things are made out of must be of the highest and rarest variety,
02:34because they can take a multitude of blasts and just keep coming.
02:38Unsurprisingly, you can spend a lot of ammo and undergo a lot of stress taking one of these
02:42things on.
02:43Naturally, it doesn't just sit there and take it, unleashing heavy firepower on your
02:48squad.
02:53Number 27, Dying Light Series.
03:03It's common practice these days for zombie games to include special, ultra powerful enemies
03:07that can create the same fear of seeing a horde all on their lonesome.
03:12In Dying Light, you have the Volatiles.
03:14Only appearing at night, these things are fast, strong, and highly resistant to anything you
03:19can throw at them.
03:20And it isn't as if this series is known for supplying you with a lot of powerful firearms
03:24anyway.
03:25Every encounter with a Volatile is drenched in tension.
03:28If you choose to grit your teeth and take them down, you better be prepared for a challenge.
03:33If you go the safer route by sprinting towards the nearest safe zone, they still won't be
03:37so eager to give up on their prey.
03:40Number 26, Severed Returnal.
03:51Returnal surprised a lot of players with how difficult it could be.
03:55And there are plenty of regular enemies that make it so.
03:57The honor of hardest to kill, though, goes to the Severed.
04:00They start showing up in the Crimson Wastes, the game's second region.
04:04And they are, by far, more difficult than anything that comes before them.
04:08What really makes them a nuisance is their ability to teleport right next to you.
04:13Even though they leave a trail behind that shows where they'll pop up, this is an absolute
04:17nightmare to deal with in a game where keeping your distance is so important.
04:21They have multiple powerful attacks, too, giving players more than a few reasons to fear them.
04:27Number 5, Bloaters, The Last of Us Series.
04:34A late stage of Infected in the Last of Us universe, bloaters have developed thick, hardened
04:39plating all over their body.
04:41And so if you want to take one down, you'll be using a lot of resources.
04:45It doesn't help that they tear off chunks of their mushroom armor and toss it at you
04:49like grenades.
04:51Or that their strength is so mighty, you're as good as dead if they catch you.
04:54You can try to keep your distance since they're pretty slow, but the games usually only confront
04:59you with one when you're in a tight liminal space.
05:02Every time one appears, it's a perfect oh crap moment as everyone knows they're in
05:06for one hell of a fight.
05:17Number 24, Honey Badgers, Far Cry 4.
05:26If you scoffed at the idea of a Honey Badger being on this list, then you clearly haven't
05:31played Far Cry 4.
05:32Even in a landscape full of other deadly predators and armed henchmen, nothing here will cause
05:37you more fear or pain than the Honey Badger.
05:40What makes them so difficult to kill is their size and speed.
05:44They'll dart across your screen with immense velocity, causing you to spray bullets wildly.
05:48It'll usually be for naught, though.
05:50When they catch you, they'll tear off chunks of your health with their vicious teeth and
05:54claws.
05:55Sure, it's hilarious, but that doesn't negate the fact that, if you can, Honey Badgers are
05:59to be avoided.
06:01Number 23, Halo series.
06:04Across the Halo franchise, players have faced hordes of hardy enemies, but none of the smaller
06:19forces can hold a candle to the hunters.
06:22These brutes always come with thick armor as well as a shield that makes it challenging
06:26to even shoot them, let alone damage them.
06:28The shield can deal detrimental damage should a hunter choose to use it against you, but
06:33they also come armed with massive guns, able to dish out worse than you'll likely be able
06:37to give.
06:38They're one of the most intimidating foes Master Chief has ever had the misfortune of facing.
06:43Fighting them on harder difficulties is a major test, separating the casual players from the
06:47pros.
06:49Number 22, Raven Tengu, Nioh.
07:08Taking inspiration from FromSoftware's soulslike formula, Nioh is one of the hardest games of
07:13the 2010s.
07:15And with enemies like Raven Tengu, it's easy to see why.
07:18Like many enemies in this genre, it's a matter of figuring out patterns and openings.
07:23Simple to say, but clearly hard to pull off.
07:25The Raven Tengu can deal a hefty amount of damage with any attack, putting you down in
07:30mere moments.
07:31Trying to dodge is a huge risk, as their attacks also cover a huge range and will likely end
07:36up hitting you anyway.
07:37It's not as if they're that durable, it can just kill you so quickly that you'll undergo
07:42a lot of trial and error before you finally come out victorious.
07:52Number 21, Spear Adept Monks.
07:55Sekiro's Shadows Die Twice.
08:06Among the different types of Senpou Monks found in Sekiro, the Spear Adepts are the undisputed
08:11worst.
08:12Hitting them can be tough since they're so damn quick.
08:15Even when you do, their blocking skills are so on point that you likely won't deal any
08:19damage anyway.
08:20It doesn't help that they're all so ridiculously aggressive.
08:23The ferocity and speed in which they attack you is unparalleled.
08:27And since this is a FromSoftware game, it doesn't take many of their attacks to land
08:31before you're in the ground.
08:33They're bad enough on their own, but when they come in pairs, that level of frustration
08:37matches and in some cases surpasses some of the most notorious bosses the studio is known
08:43for.
08:44Number 20, Shambhala Guardians.
08:54Uncharted 2 Among Thieves.
09:03As Nathan Drake, his allies, and his enemies reach the mystical city of Shambhala, they all
09:08come into conflict with its residents.
09:10Turns out, they're extremely protective of their home and have used the Tree of Life
09:14Sap to increase their strength and stamina.
09:17And that spells bad news for everyone.
09:27The Shambhala Guardians are your classic late-game bullet sponges.
09:30You can unload a full clip into one, and it'll still be bounding your way.
09:34They also come equipped with powerful crossbows, able to put you down in mere moments.
09:39As problematic as these Guardians are, it's still fun seeing them rip through your enemies.
09:51Number 19, Dry Bones.
09:54Super Mario series.
10:04These Koopa skeletons may not look like much, and they're far from the most aggressive
10:08enemy, but their durability is honestly impressive.
10:11No matter how many times Mario jumps on its head, causing the body to crumble, Dry Bones
10:16will always get back up after a few seconds.
10:19First appearing in Super Mario Bros. 3, the only way to permanently destroy one was to use
10:23a Star or Hammer Bros. suit, both pretty rare to come across.
10:36They've gotten easier and harder to deal with, depending on the game.
10:40The inclusion of the Ice Flower in the new Super Mario Bros. series was a godsend.
10:44But in Galaxy, you could only use a Star or lure it into a trap using the environment.
10:57Number 18, Juggernauts.
10:59Call of Duty series.
11:08We've all been there.
11:09You're being swarmed by enemies, and out comes one of the big guns.
11:13You pour buckets of bullets into them, and yet they still won't go down.
11:17That's your experience with the Juggernauts from Call of Duty.
11:28Although they're encountered in many games, those found in the Modern Warfare series are
11:32by far the worst.
11:33They carry their cover with them in the form of some of the strongest body armor around.
11:38Depending on the game, some can even be more heavily armored and wield miniguns.
11:42Whether it be in Special Ops, Survival, or just the campaign, the Juggernauts will test
11:47your patience and surely test your mettle.
11:58Number 17, Chrysalids XCOM 2.
12:10Developer Firaxis Games increased the difficulty in this sequel in numerous ways.
12:14One of the most obvious was in the Chrysalid enemy, made significantly stronger over its predecessor.
12:20Similar to the first game, Chrysalids can infect any organic matter, whether it be a civilian
12:25or a member of your team.
12:27This forms a cocoon, which will spawn up to three new Chrysalids and cause players to
12:30be overwhelmed through sheer force.
12:33The way in which they used the battlefield was also improved.
12:36They can lead to tall buildings, move with alarming speed, and can burrow underground.
12:41Their burrow ability makes them much harder to hit, and gives them a chance to ambush you
12:45even if it's your turn.
12:47Number 16, Tremor Tusks Horizon Forbidden West
13:01Aloy has to battle a multitude of tough machines along her adventures.
13:05A special shout-out goes to the Rock Breaker, which hides underground and surprises you from below.
13:10As troublesome as that is, Forbidden West gave us the walking bulldozers that are the Tremor Tusks.
13:16These mammoth-inspired enemies naturally dwarf Aloy in size, and they've got the defensive
13:22and offensive capabilities to match.
13:24Physical attacks, both short and long range, as well as fire, plasma, and electric attacks
13:37give it a wide range of ways to annihilate you.
13:40It may be slow, but its sturdy armor plates make up for this downside.
13:44Even if you manage to destroy one of its weak points, the Tremor Tusk will not be dissuaded.
13:55Number 15, Gears of War series
14:11The Locust Horde is for sure an intimidating force, but some of its members definitely hit
14:16harder than others.
14:18Berserkers are the less common female variant of a Locust drone, and they are far more powerful
14:23than their male counterparts.
14:25These enemies may be blind, but their heightened smell and hearing makes that a non-issue.
14:30They also get their name from the fact that they're in a constant state of rage and will
14:34come barreling towards any foe like a freight train.
14:43Try and shoot it all you want.
14:44Its skin is extremely resistant to gunfire.
14:47Any weapon that emits flame will weaken them for further damage.
14:50But other than that, best of luck.
15:01Number 14, Red Eremers Ghost and Goblin series
15:05Capcom's Ghost and Goblin series consists of some of the most challenging platformers
15:19ever made.
15:20Most of the enemies are ruthless, but chief among them is the Red Eremers.
15:24These winged demons like to fly high above poor Arthur, swiftly diving down on him with
15:28little chance to defend himself.
15:39Depending on which power-up you have equipped, they'll probably be extremely hard to hit
15:43and likely take more than one shot to go down.
15:46But as Arthur can only be hit twice before its curtains, these so-called regular enemies
15:51seem more powerful than you.
15:53Since these games don't usually offer a way to save, we approach every Red Eremers with
15:57the utmost caution.
16:05Number 13, God of War Ragnarok
16:08It's always cool seeing how God of War adapts mythological figures and monsters to suit its
16:22gameplay.
16:23But Sony could have left this thing buried in the annals of history and we would have been
16:27completely okay with it.
16:28The Noken are some of the physically weakest enemies in the game, but they never travel
16:33alone, boosting their allies so that they constantly heal from whatever blow you deal
16:37them.
16:38Though you can hear them chanting to perform this skill, they're also usually hiding.
16:54All it takes is one encounter with an endlessly healing ogre courtesy of this little gremlin
16:58to make you lose your cool.
17:00And gods help you when it's boosting a group of enemies.
17:06The Noken are a great many predators roaming the wasteland of Fallout, but the Death Claws are
17:07a great many predators roaming the wasteland of Fallout.
17:11But the Death Claws are the apex variety.
17:12While they're not quite so bad in some games, if you come across the game, they're a great
17:13many predators roaming the wasteland of Fallout, but the Death Claws are the apex variety.
17:26While they're not quite so bad in some games, if you come across one in three or New Vegas,
17:43it's probably best if you keep your distance.
17:46That's a whole lot easier said than done, however, as they tend to move blindingly fast.
18:02They're also extremely durable, soaking up most bullets as you can spray their way.
18:06Unfortunately, they aren't usually found alone either.
18:10So you'll likely have a pack to deal with at a time.
18:13Of course, you can always take the necessary precautions in enhancing your character and
18:17weapons to make them easier.
18:19But that takes supreme preparation.
18:30Number 11.
18:31Twitchers Dead Space Series
18:44Anyone familiar with the Dead Space Series knows you have to always try to keep Necromorphs
18:49at arm's length, because they'll absolutely make you regret it if you don't.
18:53Therefore, one that moves ridiculously fast is bound to be an issue.
18:57It's entirely likely that a Twitcher will dodge most of your gunfire before it reaches you.
19:12It's this erratic and unpredictable movement that makes them so hard to kill.
19:16However, when it bears down upon you, it'll proceed to slice and dice off chunks of your
19:21health bar before you can even think.
19:23It's one of the most vicious Necromorph variants in the entire series, which is saying quite
19:28a lot.
19:37Number 10.
19:38Marauders Doom Eternal
19:51Throughout the Doom series, players have taken on countless hordes of vile demons.
19:56Yet it wasn't until 2020's Eternal that they were introduced to the toughest enemy
20:00in the series.
20:01Once Night Sentinels, the Marauders were resurrected and turned demonic.
20:05Since they originally belonged to the same group of heroes as you, that means they'll have
20:09a lot of nippy tricks to make your life hell.
20:21They've got a variety of attacks for different ranges, can summon a wolf, and are either immune
20:25to or resistant against several of your weapons.
20:29Furthermore, there's only a brief window when they're open to attack, which just so happens
20:33to be in the middle of a lunge.
20:43So yeah, that's wonderful.
20:44Number 9.
20:45FOCAS
20:46Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link.
20:48When Lynels transitioned to 3D in Breath of the Wild, Nintendo gave them a significant
20:52boost in power.
20:54But let's be real.
20:55If the FOCAS are ever given an update, we're all doomed.
20:59So far, these capable bird knights have only been seen in Zelda 2, a notoriously tough entry
21:04in the series.
21:05They're also only found in the final dungeon, but they're definitely a quality over quantity
21:10type of foe.
21:19They act similar to Iron Knuckles, except that they can also jump and shoot beams from their
21:24swords.
21:25They're also beefy enough to survive the Thunder spell, which normally kills all normal enemies
21:29on a screen.
21:31Both the red and blue variants deal heavy damage to Link, but the latter has twice as much health.
21:45Number 8.
21:46Revenants.
21:47Elden Ring.
22:01Each FromSoft release overflows with enemies that are a pain to kill, and the revenants of
22:05Elden Ring are no different.
22:07Looking like a twisted combination of human and spider, they certainly showcase the developer's
22:12traditionally unnerving design.
22:14But what makes them harder than other enemies is their ability to teleport.
22:27If there's more than one around you, another will almost certainly pop up behind you.
22:32Their elongated bodies make dodging and escaping nigh impossible.
22:36Many players have declared Revenants the game's most hated enemy for good reason.
22:40Thankfully, the AoE of your healing spells can actually damage them.
22:44It's pretty fitting considering that they'll make you do a lot of healing.
22:59Number 7.
23:00Malboro.
23:01Final Fantasy Series.
23:13These overgrown plant monsters are one of the oldest enemies in Final Fantasy, having first
23:18appeared in the second ever installment.
23:21Sometimes bosses, sometimes not, they've only grown more annoying over the years.
23:25Originally, some of their attacks can cause different status ailments.
23:29However, they quickly gained what would become their signature ability, Bad Breath.
23:43This is almost always a Malboro's opening attack, which will give your party members several status
23:48effects at once.
23:49If it weren't for this, they might not be so bad to deal with.
23:52But since you're forced to spend your opening moves getting rid of these ailments, that leaves
23:56you open to further attacks.
23:58If we never came across one of these again, it would be too soon.
24:11Number 6.
24:12Tanks.
24:13Left 4 Dead Series.
24:24The Left 4 Dead games offer hours of multiplayer mayhem, with legions of undead to mow through
24:29and special classes of infected to keep things fresh.
24:32The tank is certainly the most resilient of these variants, as he's essentially what would
24:36happen if the Hulk was bitten by a zombie.
24:45You may be doing your best to survive when, all of a sudden, you'll hear a mighty roar
24:49that signals he's about to stampede through everything and everyone.
24:53There's little you can do to keep from being knocked to the ground.
24:57And it usually takes a team's combined efforts to be able to put this big boy down.
25:10Number 5.
25:11Shark Giants.
25:12Bloodborne.
25:21Shark Giants may only be found in the Old Hunters DLC, and there may only be a handful of them.
25:27But they do exceptional work with the little time that they're given.
25:30And by exceptional work, we mean pummeling us into the dirt with ease.
25:34These lumbering foes only need to land a couple of hits before you're nothing more than fish
25:38food.
25:45Their attacks include a charge slide, which covers a ton of ground and is extremely hard
25:49to dodge, and a grapple where they can eat you whole.
25:53Naturally, their health pool is much larger than yours, and you'll probably have to spend
25:57your time chipping away.
25:59It's just as intimidating as a fight against a massive humanoid shark should be.
26:12Number 4.
26:13EMI.
26:14Metroid Dread.
26:19It's never a good time when robots turn evil.
26:27Samus Aran may be a badass space bounty hunter, but even she has a rough go with the EMI.
26:32These specialized bots are sent by the Galactic Federation to Planet ZDR to investigate the return
26:38of a deadly parasite.
26:39Unfortunately, they're corrupted to attack you, and they're highly durable.
26:51Only by charging her arm cannon at special locations does Samus earn the power to dispose
26:55of them.
26:56However, each subsequent one comes equipped with a more troublesome ability, like the
27:00yellow EMI's immense speed or the blue one's ability to freeze you.
27:04Their environments also get trickier to navigate as you fight to survive.
27:16Number 3.
27:18Banshees.
27:19Mass Effect 3.
27:29The Banshees of Irish folklore sound like they'd be incredibly hard to deal with.
27:33But we'd honestly take our chances with those instead of the ones found in Mass Effect
27:373.
27:38They have some of our least favorite enemy skills in video games, including a possible
27:42one-hit kill and the ability to teleport.
27:54Of course, like the mythological figures, they'll also wail, producing an AoE blast.
27:59This is a perfect time for them to regenerate their shield since you can't get too close
28:03to them, which they will frequently do.
28:05It's no wonder they're always found leading a Reaper Strike Force.
28:09We'd put them in charge too.
28:18Number 2.
28:19Big Daddies.
28:20Bioshock.
28:30There are many things about Bioshock that impress players, from its mind-bending story to its
28:35addictive gameplay to the iconic Big Daddies.
28:38These behemoths are physically altered to be immensely strong and psychologically trained
28:42to protect little sisters.
28:44It's highly likely you'll come across one long before you can handle it.
28:48And if you try, the Big Daddy will show surprising speed for his size and promptly turn you into
28:53mush.
29:00Being both a sponge for bullets and your powerful plasmids, each one will eat a lot of your resources
29:05before it finally shuffles off this mortal coil.
29:08Just make sure you've got a lot of room to maneuver before taking these baddies on.

29:35Number 1 – Resident Evil 4
29:47The zombies of Resident Evil are surprisingly durable for rotting corpses.
29:51Crimson heads from the first game's remake may look like normal undead, but are much stronger
29:56and faster.
29:57Regenerators from the fourth game, however, are even worse.
30:00They may still be slow moving, but they're usually found in cramped spaces.
30:13As befits their name, they can regenerate limbs, which means your knife and small firearms are
30:18basically useless.
30:19You'll be spending precious grenades and shotgun shells on these jerks unless you use the rifle's
30:24thermoscope to see their weak points.
30:26Even still, one of its weak points may be on its back, forcing you to move behind it.
30:31No matter how you do it, these suckers put up a mighty fight.
30:42Is there a tough to kill enemy you feel we left off?
30:45Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
