Joe Marino shares what he saw from Maxwell Hairston and Michael Hoecht in their Bills debut's
Transcript
00:00This defense that Brandon Bean, he went to overhaul the defense and it's maybe finally starting to see parts of it.
00:06Granted, Ed Oliver's absence will be big, but what did you see from Hairston?
00:09What did you see from Hoyt in terms of how this defense can play differently?
00:14And, you know, here comes your biggest test, Kansas City.
00:16We might want to see how they pass the test later in the year,
00:19but are they more equipped with those two in the lineup to try and deal with Kansas City in a week like this?
00:25Yeah, absolutely.
00:26And obviously the Chiefs offense is rolling right now.
00:30It's probably the best it's looked in three years.
00:33But I do think that they're positioned reasonably well with the reinforcements,
00:38especially the two you mentioned, Hoyt and Hairston.
00:40I really enjoy both players.
00:43Hoyt is a menace on the field.
00:45I mean, he's such a good all-around player,
00:49but his pass rush just gets me really excited with the athleticism that he has
00:54and the different alignments that he can play from.
00:56He's just collapsing offensive linemen left and right with his ability to just convert speed to power.
01:03And then while doing that, he gets his hands on their wrists and their elbows
01:06and just forces them to give up their chest.
01:09And he's just pushing dudes into the quarterback.
01:11And he's very tenacious.
01:13And you can tell he gets under people's skin.
01:15He's a really fun player that I'm excited to see with him.
01:18And Bosa and Rousseau and Epinesa and that group should really elevate this pass rush
01:23against a couple of tackles here for the Chiefs that are suspect, right?
01:26Jawan Taylor has kind of been a struggling player for a while at right tackle.
01:29And then they're struggling at left tackle where their first-round pick, you know,
01:33is kind of NIA right now with some challenges.
01:36And so there's some matchups to take advantage of there.
01:39And obviously, you know, affecting Mahomes is going to be so critical.
01:42But, yeah, Hoyt's really exciting.
01:44But I really, really enjoyed the Harrison tape as well.
01:47Not that he was challenged at all in coverage, which I think says something, right?
01:51He was kind of where he was supposed to be.
01:52He was the primary.
01:53He covered the primary once on an outbreaker.
01:56And it was press coverage.
01:57Got the hands on.
01:58Got the jam.
01:59Carried the route to the sideline.
02:00Dalton wanted to go to that throw.
02:03He couldn't, you know, wasn't available.
02:04He moved on and threw the ball away.
02:06But what he did against the run, there were a couple plays against the run that just had me so excited.
02:12His second snap was the Panthers ran a condensed formation.
02:16So he's having to kind of play up on the line of scrimmage as a D-gap defender.
02:21And they pulled the tight end across the formation to kick him out.
02:24And Harrison just, he hunkered down and took on the block with perfect technique.
02:28He deployed a wrong arm and was able to really squeeze that gap down.
02:32And positioned Dorian Williams and Jordan Poirier to combine for a tackle, showing a lot of physicality.
02:37We all saw the tackle he made in space, which was textbook technique.
02:40And then there was another play later on where he was, they were running outside to his area.
02:47And he was able to take Xavier Leggett and kind of push him back into the ball carrier
02:52and affect that ball carrier's flow and pushed him back into the pursuit of the defense.
02:56It was pretty cool to see.
