This special report covers Cyclone Montha's devastating impact on Andhra Pradesh, where Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is overseeing relief efforts, alongside major political developments in South India. A key quote highlights the political friction in Tamil Nadu, with the opposition stating, 'the CM and his son are busy reviewing movies instead of worrying and taking part in the misery of the farmers'. The program details the cyclone's landfall in Machilipatnam, the extensive damage to infrastructure, and ongoing rescue operations by NDRF teams. It also delves into the political turmoil in Tamil Nadu, where CM M.K. Stalin faces criticism from the AIADMK and BJP over his priorities during a crisis. Additionally, the report covers the power struggle within Karnataka's Congress government, as Ahinda groups rally behind CM Siddaramaiah for a full term.

00:00Hello and welcome to India today and a very special episode of SoSouth where as we promised we bring you the latest updates from the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra and Telangana and not just that we've been following the political storms along with the cyclonic storm Montha.
00:28And to give more information about that, let's go to Apoorwa Jaijandran. Apoorwa, what do you have for us for the day?
00:37Well, Pramod, in fact, what we are learning is that Cyclone Montha's fall has already begun and with its completion today, what we are getting is once the landfall had taken place, there is still rainfall that is ongoing there.
00:54In fact, Chief Minister Narachandra Babu Naidu is expected to conduct an aerial survey today as well.
01:01Not only that, he will also be going for field visits for the densely affected areas by Cyclone Montha in just a short while from now.
01:09Thank you, Apoorwa. Also, Abdul Bashir is on the ground. Abdul, what do you have for the day?
01:21Well, we are right now at the most affected area of Cyclone Montha, the most devastating effect that we have seen.
01:27And this bulletin will show you the visuals as to what was the effect last night in Machilipatnam of Andhra Pradesh where the landfall has occurred.
01:38Thank you, Abdul. And yes, we said like there is a monsoon and there's going to be storm after storm.
01:42But when it comes to Karnataka, it's always political storms.
01:46And so, Sakai, what updates do you have for us today?
01:52There is no cyclone storm, but political storms continue in the state of Karnataka where Hinda community members have written a letter to Rahul Gandhi
02:00to allow CM Siddharamaya to continue as a Chief Minister for five years.
02:04And DK Suresh, brother of DK Shriukumar, say that if fate is written in his favour, definitely DK Shriukumar will become the Chief Minister.
02:12Thank you, Sakai. And for more ground reports, ground reality, rescue, relief and rehabilitation, what is happening in Andhra, let's go to Apoorwa Jai Chandra.
02:42Let's go to Apoorwa Jai Chandra.
02:45Strong winds lashed across the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh as the aftermath of the
03:15Cyclone Montha's landfall has taken place already. Earlier towards the early morning today, we saw Cyclone Montha making its landfall in across Amalapuram district here in Konasima as well and neighbouring regions. Districts like Kakinara, Konasima, Guntur and several other areas witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall as well as freeze that were felt during the impact of Cyclone Montha.
03:40In fact, where we are at currently standing right now, we are Enrut Konasima, where Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Narachandra Babu Naidu is expected to not only have an aerial survey of the worst affected areas, but most importantly, he is also likely to have field visits that he will take with farmers who have been suffering from the crop damages owing to the impact of Cyclone Montha.
04:02Not only that, there have been several areas that have been disrupted by electricity lines and power cuts that had been taken place due to the impact of Cyclone Montha.
04:13Since yesterday night, 8.30pm, well into 6am early this morning, all routes including national highways have been completely blocked owing to the safety and security of people.
04:26Apart from medical personnel, nobody else was allowed to venture in, especially in across these seven districts of the coastal town of Andhra Pradesh.
04:34In fact, Andhra Pradesh government had been working overnight where we saw several teams on the ground there ensuring the public are not venturing outside as well.
04:52Helpline numbers are still active for the public. Should there be any instances of power cuts that have been reported, officials on ground are also working to ensure that any major calamity such as Cyclone Montha's effect is there, be it trees that have fallen or any other damage to public property as well, all of these are also being taken care of.
05:13The greater municipal corporations, be it in Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Vijaywada or several other areas as well, all of them are working round the clock to ensure that any of the damages that took place due to the rains and the flooding that had happened after the torrential rainfall that the coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh witnessed since late last night, it is definitely that these officials are going ahead and working.
05:38Listen in to the reactions coming in.
05:39This place that I am standing is the Machlipattam centre, a lane beside the Machlipattam centre where this tree, the branch of this tree had fallen after the heavy wind that blew the whole night, devastating effect of Cyclone Montha in Machlipattam where the landfall had taken place late last evening.
05:59Now all the restoration process had been going on for the past 10 to 12 hours where several trees which have been uprooted have been cleared off and this tree is also being cleared by the authorities as of now.
06:12All the officials are on ground working continuously to restore the aftermath of Cyclone Montha in Machlipattam of Andhra Pradesh.
06:22I am right now opposite the Machlipattam bus stand where the restoration process is ongoing.
06:27A tree which has been uprooted at this particular junction blocking the whole road is being moved by the JCB.
06:33Now here this JCB is being used as a restoration process after this huge tree had fallen on this road and this road was blocked partially after which now the JCB is clearing off.
06:45Several other incidents where barricadings that were placed in here have been displaced during the heavy winds that have taken place.
06:55Many temporary and permanent sheds have fallen to the ground and several other incidents here in Machlipattam.
07:02This is the Machlipattam bus stand where you can see several trees have uprooted after the heavy wind, the blow of the devastating wind that blew last night
07:11has caused this particular devastation in Machlipattam area.
07:16So as you can see the JCB is being used as a restoration process in Machlipattam area after Cyclone Montha has affected the local residents here.
07:26Camera person Damodar, Abdul Bashir, Machlipattam.
07:29We are at the Kakinada port on the deep side where you can see this is the search and rescue operations that are currently underway.
07:36And in the search and rescue operations, what we are getting to learn from officials is that seven members had gone inside to rescue their boats and bring it back safely back to the docks.
07:48But unfortunately, one person has gone missing since yesterday evening.
07:53And this is a search and rescue teams that are currently out here and carrying out these search and rescue operations since late evening yesterday.
08:00Remember Cyclone Tufan, you know, this Tufan Montha had already said that the landfall will be expected later in the evening yesterday.
08:09With the impact that has braced in across various locations here in coastal Andhra Pradesh, it definitely looks like Kakinada has also been affected.
08:19More likely, if you can see local administration, police and NDRF teams have also joined here in the search and rescue that has been continuously going on.
08:26Rainfall is scheduled for today as well. The next 24 hours also likely looks like coastal Andhra Pradesh will be receiving a lot of rainfall.
08:35But government officials and police and other officials do say that they are well prepared and are ensuring that whatever happens, the public safety is their utmost priority.
08:45That's all you can see out here as well.
08:47NDRF teams who are also going ahead for continuing their search for, you know, search and rescue as it continues on.
08:54With the real journalist Prasad, Kakinada, Apoor Vajai Chandran, India Today.
08:58See, actually, this Kakinada coastline is a little bit weak because it's frequently affected by the cyclones, every and each cyclone.
09:05So a little bit of disaster is every time done.
09:08In recent years, we have seen that every year, three to four meters, the sea has been coming nearer to the land.
09:15There's a lot of restriction here, Upada, Cornpapat also.
09:18And due to high tides and here, this area is frequently affected here.
09:22Fishermen, basically 95% are all completely fishermen people.
09:26And they're worried about their livelihood.
09:28So they get out into the sea to save their boats.
09:30That's the reason.
09:31Sir, what is the current situation, landfall in this particular land, a very big task yesterday.
09:36What is the situation, any loss of life or restoration work?
09:41How is it going?
09:41Yes, due to the collective efforts of SP, sir, as well as collectors, sir, we prepared well for this Monta Tupan.
09:49And we are able to clear where the road obstructions by the trees fell down.
09:56Around 200 trees fell down on the roads as well as current poles.
10:01Entire night, this relief has been going on.
10:05And we are able to clear all road blockages by now.
10:09And now it appears to be a normal situation in Majribatna.
10:13Particularly, we can see here, today we can expect extreme rainfall.
10:18Of course, there is a lot of rainfall activity from yesterday night onwards.
10:22So it will continue even today also till afternoon.
10:25So since already extremely heavy rainfall happened, even today, small amount of rainfall also will cause a lot of damage.
10:32So that's why we are giving Redu warning to these districts, Nellur, Nandiyal, Prakasham, Pallnadu, Entire and Guntur districts.
10:40The neighboring districts like Bapatla, Krishna, Yeluru, Westigodhar, we are expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall.
10:45So that's why we are giving orange warning.
10:47The remaining northern districts, we are expecting one or two places heavy rainfall.
10:52Even in the southern districts also, like Rhyalsema, the completely southern districts, we can expect a heavy rainfall.
10:57Yesterday, Monta Tupan crossed in the midnight, yesterday.
11:02The whole thing was mounted by our chief minister from RTG.
11:07And in every district, district collector, one control room was established.
11:12And in all mandals also, control rooms were there.
11:15Due to the precautions taken by the government, there was heavy loss controlled by these teams.
11:22All are in field.
11:23All ministers and all officials are in field.
11:26So, there is no life loss because of that monitoring.
11:32And there is some somewhat night wind was very high.
11:37At that time, 80 kilometers to 90 kilometers wind also came that time.
11:42So, because of that, some trees fallen and some electrical pores fallen.
11:45All are rectifying.
11:47By evening, in a normal situation, we are thinking.
11:52Sir, what exactly is the current situation right now?
11:54Current situation is presently, it is going on good.
11:58Most of the problem is regarding power.
12:02We are rectifying one by one.
12:04By today evening, we will completely rectify and give power to all the householders.
12:07Since yesterday, the power has been...
12:09Due to heavy wind, we only shut down the powers due to the accidents.
12:14Any loss of life or property?
12:16No life loss.
12:17Our CM is very much interested about...
12:21Things should not even a single life should.
12:26Well, as you can see, the temperatures have already dropped with the effect of Cyclone Montha
12:30in across the regions of Andhra Pradesh over the next 24 hours as well.
12:35Rains are also expected in and across the region.
12:38Let me go across to my colleague, Bashir, who is also reporting along with me
12:42on the coverage of Cyclone Montha.
12:43Bashir, I hear you are in Machlipatnam.
12:45How are things there?
12:46There was a lot of devastation that we had heard in terms of trees fallen and other things.
12:56Well, yes, Apoorva, I am right now standing at a point where Cyclone Montha's devastating effect
13:01can be clearly witnessed here at this particular point where you can see
13:04in this single stretch, more than 100 trees have fallen to the ground.
13:08They have uprooted and fallen on the ground where continuous operations of more than 12 to 13 hours
13:13still authorities are continuously working to restore.
13:16On my left side, as you can see, that the huge cranes are being used to dozens of poles
13:21which have fallen on the ground.
13:23No power supply, no electricity to the whole town and the nearby villages for the past 24 hours.
13:29Yesterday, as a precautionary measure, the power cut had taken place.
13:32Electricity supply was halted and now, as you can see, after the devastating effect,
13:37the restoration operations are still ongoing.
13:40Several trees still on roads.
13:42Most of the roads leading towards Machlipatnam have been closed
13:45and hundreds of trees only in this particular stretch.
13:49On whole, more than 200 trees have fallen on the ground or uprooted
13:52after the devastating wind that had taken place last night after the landfall of Cyclone Montha.
13:57Now, people, several of them waiting for their power supply to be restored,
14:01drinking water supply to be restored, food supplies to be given
14:04is what thousands of people in Machlipatnam are still awaiting.
14:08It's been 24 hours.
14:10Still a sigh of relief from Cyclone Montha's effect as it has already left this premises.
14:16However, there is no much rainfall witnessed at this particular junction
14:19and mainly in the town and the villages nearby.
14:22But the effect still is lasting.
14:25Several houses we have seen where trees have uprooted and fallen on a house.
14:29Walls collapsed.
14:30A temple wall had collapsed nearby.
14:32And several other places we have witnessed, several other incidents
14:35where fortunately no loss of life has taken place is what authorities have to say.
14:41Just the property damage which is being assessed by the AP government
14:45is what we are learning.
14:46Both the ministers, AP minister, Ravindra and Ravi, both the power and excise minister
14:52were on ground.
14:53They had assessed this particular spot as well
14:55and taken stock of the situation where restore operations,
14:58restoration operations are ongoing.
15:00The police, the traffic, electricity department, fire, safety,
15:04everybody is on ground continuously working around the clock to restore
15:07after the devastating effect that Cyclone Montha has created in Machlipatnam of Andhra Pradesh.
15:13Over to you.
15:18Well, thanks Abdul.
15:20Hope you are seeing stay and continue to bring us more reports.
15:24We have a breaking news that's now coming in.
15:26Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Narachandra Babu Naidu
15:29will be taking stock of the situation on ground.
15:32He will be conducting aerial surveys in across various districts
15:36that have been deeply affected by Cyclone Montha.
15:39Not only that, he will also interact with farmers
15:42as he reaches Konesima district
15:44and will take care of the situation on ground
15:47in the affected areas,
15:49especially in crop fields
15:51where the Cyclone Montha's effect
15:54can be seen in large gravity.
16:12Well, as the Cyclone Montha's effect continues on in Andhra Pradesh,
16:28we hope all of you watching do stay safe and stay alert.
16:32But let's move on to the state of Tamil Nadu
16:34where my colleague, Pramod Madu, brings you all the latest.
16:36Thank you, Abhulwar. Thank you, Abdul.
16:48Brilliant job by you two on the ground over there.
16:50I request you two to be safe as well.
16:52From the state of Tamil Nadu,
16:53this is a political storm
16:55and that too where BJP, ARADMK and TVK
16:59are hitting at the Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin,
17:03that too over watching Bison Kalamadan movie.
17:06The interesting fact here is that
17:07the Chief Minister watched the movie
17:09and stated that he was very much pleasantly happy
17:12to see such a movie.
17:13However, TVK, ARADMK and BJP
17:17are questioning the time
17:18where this has occurred
17:19as Edapati K. Paniswamy, the opposition leader
17:22at the General Secretary of ARADMK
17:23had gone to the Delta region
17:25where he stated that since paddy that was harvested
17:28were not procured on time,
17:30it has led to complete wastage
17:33of whatever that was placed
17:35and this is where EPS, TVK and BJP
17:38are claiming that the government,
17:40state government, did not act on time
17:43leading to a lot of wastage of paddy,
17:46the hard work of the farmers,
17:48thereby claiming that the Chief Minister
17:50is not at all bothered about the farmers
17:53as he was watching Bison Kalamadan.
17:55These are the allegations that has been brought
17:57by EPS, BJP and TVK leader Vijay.
18:01Here's what the Nitas said.
18:02The DMK has promised several silos to be constructed,
18:08several storage facilities to be made for the farmers
18:10across the Delta region and Kadalur.
18:12But unfortunately, DMK,
18:13just like how they faulted on 80% of their promises,
18:16has also failed the farmers of Tamil Nadu
18:18by not delivering what they promised.
18:20Because of that,
18:21several lakhs of metric tons of grains
18:24have been affected,
18:25the farmers are crying,
18:26but the CM and his son
18:27are busy reviewing movies
18:29instead of worrying and taking part
18:31in the misery of the farmers.
18:32While there are openers in the forest, they have a nice assembly of the park.
18:37They are not a lot of outsiders from their people.
18:41Once they are using their people in their yard, they are not a good support.
18:46They are just not a good support.
18:50That is also in the forest.
18:53They are also known as the forest.
18:57This is how the people are using the forest.
19:00It is the case for me,
19:03it is the case for me,
19:05and it is the case for me.
19:07This case will be a case for me.
19:10I will not say anything.
19:12After 4 years,
19:15it is the case for me,
19:18and I know that they will be a case for me.
19:24Let's move to our neighbouring story of Karnataka,
19:26where there is no end to political storms.
19:29Over to you Sakai Raj.
19:30Backward groups throw weight behind Chief Minister Sidramaya in Karnataka.
19:49Ahinda group writes to Congress top press Rahul Gandhi.
19:53Hindra groups want Sidramaya to continue as a chief minister for five years.
19:59Days after Chief Minister Sidramaya stated in Mangaluru that he would continue as chief minister for five years if the high command decides so,
20:08Ahinda organizations have come out in its support.
20:12In the backdrop of discussion over possible change in the leadership,
20:17Ahinda groups have launched a letter campaign urging the Congress high command to allow Sidramaya to complete his full five term.
20:26And they have written a letter from Mysuru demanding Rahul Gandhi to allow him to complete five years of his term in the state.
