This special report focuses on the political controversy surrounding Chhath Puja celebrations on a visually cleaner, froth-free Yamuna river in Delhi, a rare sight in recent years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has attacked the ruling BJP government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alleging the clean appearance is merely a 'cosmetic solution'. The AAP claims 'it's just cosmetic solution that has been done and that fecal coliform levels and other parameters of Yamuna River are polluted to dangerous levels'. The report delves into the BJP's efforts, including the use of chemical defoamers, to clean the ghats and the river surface. It contrasts this year's images with past celebrations where devotees were seen amidst thick toxic foam, while also highlighting the AAP's accusation that a "fake" ghat with filtered water was created for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
00:00Delhi is witnessing cleaner and froth-free Yamuna this time.
00:04The chhatt festivities are being celebrated at the ghats without toxic material visible,
00:09which has been a rare sight in the last decade.
00:12As froth goes missing from Yamuna water,
00:14Aam Admi Party has launched a scathing attack at BJP,
00:18alleging that fake Yamuna was created for chhatt celebrations.
00:22Aam Admi Party also claimed that Prime Minister Modi cancelled his public chhatt celebrations
00:27because of this reason only.
00:29Aam Admi Party also cornered the BJP government in Delhi
00:33over the alarming pollution levels in the national capital.
00:59Aam Admi Party also claimed that the chhatt was in the middle of the country.
01:05Earlier this morning, India Today tracked church celebrations at Yamuna Ghats in Delhi.
01:33Take a look at these news reports.
02:03This is the ITO bridge where you would usually in the past year see froth and foam covering the entire surface of Yamuna.
02:13And those horrifying images of Chhat Pratis dipping into the Yamuna water looking like, you know, as if they are amidst clouds.
02:22That image has not come out this time around because the Delhi government agencies have continuously worked round the clock, sprinkling chemical deformers, taking care of cleaning of Yamuna at several parts, whether it be Vasudev Ghat, Yamuna Ghat or Kalindi Kunj.
02:39But on the other side, Amadmi Party is training gun at the Bharatiya Janta Party and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta saying that it's just cosmetic solution that has been done.
02:50And that fecal coliform levels and other parameters of Yamuna River are polluted to dangerous levels.
02:59So the politics over Chhat is exploding.
03:02But certainly this time around, we saw a different image coming from the national capital.
03:06Chhat Pratis dipping into Yamuna River, which did not had foam or froth on the surface.
03:12With video journalist Himanshu Sharma, this is Amit Bhardwaj reporting for India Today from Delhi.
