00:00Trump ushers in age of retribution.
00:03President Donald Trump's administration has filed charges against three of his longtime adversaries,
00:09John Bolton, James Comey, and Letitia James,
00:12in what critics are calling a sweeping campaign of political retribution against his perceived enemies.
00:18Former National Security Advisor Bolton surrendered to authorities
00:22after being charged with mishandling classified materials.
00:25The FBI raided his home in August, alleging he possessed classified documents.
00:31Bolton's attorney, Abby Lowell, dismissed the claims,
00:34saying the materials were ordinary records and unclassified,
00:39shared only with his immediate family, and known to the FBI as far back as 2021.
00:45Lowell added the charges stem from portions of Ambassador Bolton's personal diaries
00:49over his 45-year career.
00:51Trump responded to the indictment by calling Bolton a bad guy.
00:57The charges against Bolton mark an escalation in Trump's pattern
01:00of pursuing those he once clashed with in office.
01:03Comey, the former FBI director who oversaw the investigation into Russian interference
01:08in the 2016 election, became the first major target
01:12when a grand jury indicted him on September 25th
01:15for making false statements and obstructing a congressional investigation.
01:19Comey responded,
01:21I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I'm innocent.
01:25So let's have a trial and keep the faith.
01:28New York Attorney General Letitia James, who led the civil fraud case against Trump,
01:33was charged on October 9th with bank fraud and making false statements over a Virginia mortgage.
01:39Prosecutors say she falsely claimed a secondary residence as her primary home.
01:44James called the charges baseless and political retribution.
01:46Trump allegedly pressured Florida AG Pam Bondi to indict her after a prior prosecutor declined
01:53and later resigned under pressure.
01:55Trump's allies within the administration have also taken aim at institutions,
02:00revoking security clearances and removing Secret Service details from former officials.
02:05Entire law firms and universities have been targeted,
02:08with some reportedly coerced into policy concessions.
02:11The growing list of prosecutions signals a concerted effort by Trump's administration
02:17to make good on his campaign promise to go after his political foes.
