00:00Five airports refused to air Noem video.
00:04A DHS video by Kristi Noem meant to reassure travelers amid the shutdown faces backlash,
00:09as at least five U.S. airports refused to air it.
00:13Noem blames Democrats for the shutdown and says TSA agents are working unpaid,
00:18but airports deemed the message too partisan for federal screens.
00:22A viral post amplified the clip.
00:24How humiliating for Democrats.
00:26It claimed the clip was playing in airports nationwide.
00:30Pushback began in the Pacific Northwest.
00:33Seattle, Tacoma, and Portland refused to run it.
00:36The Port of Seattle called it political in nature
00:38and urged bipartisan efforts to end the government shutdown.
00:42Portland said the video may violate the Hatch Act,
00:45which restricts political activity by government employees.
00:48Officials also cited Oregon law barring public employees from promoting or opposing a political party.
00:54Niagara Falls International, Buffalo Niagara International, and Westchester County Airport
00:58also opted out.
01:00The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority cited a long-standing policy against partisan material and said,
01:07therefore, we are not airing this video on airport-controlled screens.
01:11Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins called the message inappropriate and unacceptable,
01:16saying it politicizes what should be straightforward TSA updates.
01:19At a time when we should be focused on stability and preparedness,
01:23this type of messaging only distracts from the real issues, he said.
01:27Another widely shared post noted multiple airports refusing the government-funded video
01:32blaming Democrats for the shutdown.
01:35We believe the Hatch Act clearly prohibits use of public assets for political purposes and messaging,
01:40one airport said.
01:41Now, in week three, the shutdown began October 1st after Senate Democrats rejected a GOP funding measure.
01:48Only three Democrats backed it, leaving TSA and air traffic controllers unpaid.
01:53NOAM assures travelers that DHS and TSA are minimizing disruptions.
01:59However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government.
02:03Because of this, many of our operations are impacted.
02:05Our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government.
02:11DHS says the PSA is airing nationwide,
02:14but refusals highlight public versus political messaging tensions.
02:18Where it plays, the message is direct.
02:20Where it doesn't, silence questions neutrality amid hyper-partisan climate.
