00:08Diane Keaton's health woes are being exposed after her sad death at age 79.
00:13In a bombshell new report from NewsNation,
00:16multiple sources revealed that the Oscar-winning actress
00:19had been battling dementia for years before she lost her life on Saturday, October 11th.
00:25Diane Keaton, whose cause of death was listed as bacterial pneumonia,
00:28had not been seen publicly since April.
00:32According to NewsNation's senior story producer Paula Froelig,
00:35several sources close to the actress said her declining health had been a private struggle.
00:40She was battling it for years,
00:42one insider claimed of Keaton's alleged dementia diagnosis.
00:46Another on-set insider from Keaton's 2023 movie Maybe I Do,
00:51which was filmed in 2022,
00:53admitted the actress required an earpiece during production to be fed her lines.
00:56It was so sad, the source said.
01:00William H. Macy was very supportive,
01:02but it was also frustrating because if there was any stopping,
01:05a bathroom break, a meal, anything, it was back to square one.
01:08It was heartbreaking to watch.
01:10She was just so lovely.
01:12The use of an earpiece to assist with dialogue is a common trend in Hollywood for elderly actors,
01:17specifically for those struggling with cognitive conditions.
01:19Bruce Willis, whose frontotemporal dementia diagnosis was announced in February 2023,
01:26used this same method to be fed his lines while shooting his final films before retiring,
01:30including Out of Death, Assassin, and The Detective Knight.
01:34Diane Keaton revealed in her 2011 memoir,
01:37Then Again, that her mother, Dorothy Deanne,
01:40battled Alzheimer's disease,
01:42gradually losing her language and independence before passing in 2008.
01:46A 1993 journal entry from Deanne read,
01:50This is the day I heard I have the beginning of Alzheimer's disease.
01:53Scary.
01:55Keaton reflected on the emotional toll as her mother stopped recognizing her.
01:59Though Keaton reportedly kept her own dementia diagnosis private,
02:02she had previously spoken about struggles with bulimia and cancer.
02:06The Annie Hall actress is survived by her two children,
02:09Dexter, who was born in 1995,
02:11and Duke, who was born in 2000.
