'Patriotic' travel: Which Europeans are least likely to leave their home turf?

Do the French really hate trying local cuisine abroad? Who are the most 'sedentary' travellers? New data on EU tourists shows where and how they spend their travel budget.

00:00Who are the biggest spending travelers in the EU?
00:08Did you know that most Europeans prefer to travel close to home?
00:1292% of all trips taken by EU residents happen within the block.
00:1771% are domestic and the remaining 21% are to other EU countries.
00:23A Euronews analysis of Eurostat data reveals that Luxembourgish travelers
00:27top the list of big spenders abroad, shelling out an average of 1,758 euros
00:34on trips lasting at least four nights.
00:37And they're followed closely by the Swedes, the Austrians, the Finns and the French.
00:42At the other end of the scale, the Lithuanians, the Hungarians and the Slovenians span the list.
00:48When it comes to food and drinks, the Cypriots take the lead,
00:52with an average of 320 euros spent on cafes and restaurants,
00:57followed by the Estonians, the Finns and the Greeks.
01:00Along with the Lithuanians, the Slovenians and the Hungarians,
01:04the French are the least likely to splurge on local cuisine when traveling abroad.
01:09Interestingly, the French are also among the least likely to travel abroad within the EU.
01:15Just 9% of their intra-EU trips take place outside their country,
01:21the same as the Romanians.
01:23And even more patriotic, the Spaniards, with only 8% of their EU trips spent abroad.
