00:00Hey Martyrugus here with me are Charity Martyrugus and Jupy Chan also known as Amanda Jupy and it's time to get a little spooky.
00:25Yeah so we were talking about the actual re-release of Casper a Friendly Ghost from 1995 and we saw it I think the Century Theater.
00:34No that was the other theater, that was the Solid Man one.
00:37Oh what's this one called now?
00:39The Galaxy Theater. This one in the location inside the Voldemort Mall because there's two more.
00:46Yeah I found that out yesterday there was two others.
00:49And yeah the Voldemort Mall was pretty cool. We got to see stuff like the Funko Shack or the Pop Shack I think it's called Pop Shack.
00:57And also Four Boy comics. We didn't see that before so that's pretty cool checking out the Four Boy comics.
01:02Yeah because once you go in there you become four.
01:04Yep pretty much. And of course the Pop Shack also got like a whole second room that wasn't here before the last time.
01:10So that was pretty cool. And that makes you even more four.
01:13Yes. And as for the theater, oh wow. So Jai's been talking about the whole trip about checking out the theater.
01:18You gotta check out the theater. And when we did then we saw why.
01:21Yes okay so what makes the Galaxy Theater different from other conventional theaters is that they have reclining chairs.
01:28And these chairs go all the way out of your face and your stairs.
01:32Because like you're resting on the bed almost.
01:34And they also have a little like table tray.
01:37But the cool thing about the table tray is that you could move it around whichever direction you kind of want to move it.
01:43So you could put it more here or like there like that.
01:46So it's easier to have your drinks and food because another thing that the Galaxy Theater also have.
01:52Obviously you could also order like actual food like they serve burgers.
01:56They serve like what chicken fingers. I think they serve pizzas.
02:00I usually just go for the popcorn just more like the regular stuff.
02:03But I've seen people order other more fancier foods there as well.
02:07And there's a big plus that you could also have some alcoholic drinks while I watch them.
02:13Ha ha. So we were watching a really bad movie.
02:17Alcohol is your friend.
02:19Yup. We were watching a really good movie.
02:22Or even a really good movie. Alcohol is your friend.
02:24Yeah. So we had to pick up Pilates there and join watching the re-release of Casper.
02:29Oh, one last thing. I'm sorry not to interrupt but on everything.
02:32Malibu, can you order your drinks to watch at the movies?
02:34But they also have a bar section like outside the theater.
02:38You can also sit down and have your drinks as well.
02:40Oh, okay. There we go.
02:43So anyways, this movie, Wendy saw it before in theaters.
02:46And I did this the first time for both of us seeing it.
02:48I've seen clips in the commercial when it happens to be on TV or whatever.
02:51But I haven't seen the actual movie full stop.
02:55So your thoughts on it, Wendy?
02:57Well, let's give the synopsis here.
02:59So the synopsis is that the main character, well not the main character, the main, I guess the antagonist.
03:06She inherits, her father dies and she inherits this haunted mansion from her father, whom she didn't naturally like.
03:15She was one of his men.
03:16So she tries to go there and she finds out the place is haunted.
03:20So she has to try to figure out ways to get the ghost out because she figured out that supposedly there's a treasure in it.
03:29So thank Adam's family, but with Casper.
03:32And Casper, you know, he's friendly.
03:34He wants to be friends with everyone.
03:36But if you're too loud, you wake up his uncles who were like to just terrorize people.
03:41So she hires people to go in there.
03:44She hired Reverend Guido Salducci, who I don't know if some of you might be old enough to remember.
03:49He was around at least since the 70s or the 80s.
03:52You see him every once in a while.
03:53He's like a chain-smoking priest that writes gossip columns or some craziness like that.
03:57And he went in there and he was like, nah, man, can't deal with this, man.
04:03He kind of twisted his head around and that just looked awkward.
04:06And then they called the Ghostbusters, but Ray was the only one who would show up.
04:12And he said like, yeah, no, you love as well.
04:15That was funny.
04:16Yeah.
04:17And then Casper, you know, he wants friends, but then he's watching TV and watching the show.
04:22Old show that they used to be on back in the 90s called Hard Copy.
04:26But I totally forgot about it until I heard the little music and stuff.
04:30And he talked about Pullman's character, who is like a psychiatrist.
04:35But after his wife passed away, he wanted to, I guess, kind of reconnect with that.
04:39And he's trying to, he's like kind of a therapist for ghosts and spirits and trying to help them to cross over.
04:46So Casper saw that.
04:48But he saw his daughter, who was played by Christina Ricci, and he like, you know, gets a little crush on her.
04:53So he, so the evil lady, big lady, whatever, he uses his little influence to try to let her see that broadcast.
05:01So that she would call him in, bring the daughter, and craziness ensues.
05:07Yes.
05:08And, and yeah, so the movie's kind of crazy.
05:11Um, the three ghosts, you know, cause trouble and stuff.
05:14And, um, the psychiatrist's father wants to help them, like, you know, understand him and all that.
05:19And in the meantime, the evil lady and her lawyer guy are trying to, like, you know, they want to get to the treasures.
05:25They're trying to snoop around, see what they can do, or see what's happening.
05:28Yeah, just trying to get all of those out of the house so they can't even do it.
05:31Yeah.
05:32And then, of course, we go into deeper stuff that the old cartoons never really go into.
05:36In terms of, what was Casper like when he was alive?
05:39And what happened?
05:40How did he die?
05:41Why is he in his house?
05:42So we kind of find out that kind of stuff.
05:44Tragic backstory and all that kind of thing.
05:47And at the same time, Christina Richie's character, the nearest was Cat, is trying to adjust in school.
05:53There's this little snobby girl who has a liker.
05:55Um, I guess she puts up this dude to ask her out on purpose because he had to kind of prank on her at the party.
06:01Yeah, there was supposed to be a big Halloween party going on.
06:04And, um, yeah, they just, uh, volunteers were pleased.
06:08Technically said, uh, okay, I think that's okay.
06:11I mean, it seemed like the teacher would have to contact the parent for that.
06:15But, okay, 90s logic?
06:17I don't know.
06:18Yeah, so then the other thing, also, is that, um, apparently, uh, Gasper's dad was working on some machine to bring him back to life.
06:25Because, you know, he was so upset that his son died and he thinks he's being haunted by his son.
06:30Well, he was, but, you know, people think he's crazy or whatever.
06:33And he has his Lazarus machine with this magical, chemical thing that can bring him back to life.
06:38Only enough for one person, though.
06:40So the bad guy is only here to this.
06:42Yeah, but the other container is really empty.
06:44Yeah, so the bad guys overhear this and they're kind of like, ah, we could use it to, like, you know, become ghosts and steal the treasure and then come back to life again.
06:52So they try to kill each other and all that junk.
06:54Yeah.
06:55And then, uh, she tries to run over the guy with a car and she misses, but then when she steps out of the car because she didn't notice there was that kind of lead, she basically drops to her death and everything.
07:05Yeah.
07:06And then she comes back as a ghost.
07:07Yeah.
07:08It's kind of a witchy ghost.
07:09Yeah.
07:10And they got Pullman's character.
07:12The other three, he did come up with a little bit of rapport with those three.
07:18And then they were like, you know, I'm gonna show him a good time.
07:21So they just took him out.
07:22They took him to a bar.
07:24Apparently the guy was so, there was another patron there that was, like, knocked out the entire time, ignoring all this stuff going on with the ghost and Pullman.
07:33With a fat soul, stretch, and stinky.
07:35Yeah.
07:36Stinko or whatever.
07:37And then Wesley was, like, so drunk, he ends up kind of killing himself.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Yeah.
07:44Yeah.
07:45That's the thing.
07:46The ghosts wanted to kill him because they're kind of like, he's so cool, we can hang out, but too bad we gotta wait until the rest of his life.
07:52Well, hey, let's do it with solid.
07:53Let's kill him now.
07:54And then he starts talking, though, I love you guys.
07:57You know what?
07:58I'm gonna tell that lady to leave and the house is yours anyway.
08:01So they're like, oh, we can't kill him now.
08:04But then he just falls down and dies anyway.
08:06Yeah.
08:07And so Casper's about to, oh, that's another thing that becomes a plot point.
08:12The whole reason he got into all this paranormal investigative stuff is because when his wife died, he wanted to find some way to find her, you know, find her ghost or something.
08:20Yeah, just wanted to reconnect with her.
08:22Yeah.
08:23So the end of the movie, the party starts, so there's all this drama going on while there's kids down there dancing and stuff.
08:29And, you know, I'm just not supposed to know or whatever.
08:32Casper wants to bring himself back to life, but they didn't find out that the father's the ghost now.
08:36So, you know, Casper's sacrifice is one chance to bring Cat's dad back to life and everything.
08:42And while they go to the party, the wife shows up as the ghost.
08:47That father's wife.
08:48But apparently she wasn't, she is an angel.
08:50Yeah.
08:51That was the whole thing.
08:52I was like, okay, I said something.
08:54Yeah, so she gave Casper, at least until 10 o'clock, a chance to be alive for a bit.
08:59So, you know, he got to dance with Cat and everything.
09:02But unfortunately, it's 10 o'clock and he does turn back to his ghost itself and everyone runs the fuck out.
09:07And as for the prank, the snobby grown leather guy was supposed to dress up as some, you know, like one standing top of the other like some super tall ghost thing.
09:14But then the real ghost shut off.
09:16The uncle scared them off.
09:18Yeah.
09:19And everything.
09:20So, yeah, there we go.
09:22And the only thing is, you know, I'm thinking too many things psychologically.
09:27Number one, the two things that came to mind.
09:29Number one, if the father fell down that shaft or whatever, but he came back to life in the machine, is his dead body, the original dead body still there?
09:38Yeah, I didn't think about that back then.
09:40But as I was watching it now, it did come to my mind.
09:43I was like, wait a minute.
09:45I was thinking that while I was watching it, you know, earlier.
09:48I was like, okay, that's something I never thought of before.
09:51Yeah.
09:52And then the other thing is, like, I'm thinking now with the movie, how it ended.
09:55What's going to happen to her in the next game of school?
09:58How are the kids going to react that they saw ghosts in the house and whatever?
10:01Because the entire class saw it, you know what I mean?
10:03Like, how is she going to go back to her normal life after that?
10:06Hmm.
10:07I think that's when we get, when we treat she becomes Wednesday.
10:12No.
10:13Okay.
10:14Anyways, Johnny, your thoughts as a first time watcher?
10:17Um, I liked the movie.
10:18It was entertaining.
10:19Casper had a huge crush on the girl for sure.
10:23I mean, he was really bored with that throughout the whole movie.
10:27I'm like, oh my goodness.
10:28What the hell?
10:29Like, I don't know.
10:30It was a nice movie, whatever.
10:31Um, the enemies were really evil.
10:34That woman's like, ah, she's so evil.
10:38Um, the ghosts were annoying.
10:41They were obnoxious throughout the whole film.
10:43And, and yeah, it was, it was an entertaining film.
10:47I think it was a good movie for, for the time period that came out in the 90s, you know.
10:51And the effects were pretty good.
10:53I think the CGI, believe it or not, I think the CGI effects were actually better in this movie than the Spider-Man movie.
11:00The Spider-Man 2.1.
11:02But to be fair, it wasn't a lot of crazy movement either.
11:05Yeah.
11:06So, it's probably a little easier to do.
11:08But this movie also gets away with it more because it's, it's a, it's a cartoony movie.
11:12Come on, it's based on, on the ghosts.
11:14It was.
11:15I'm trying to swear to all people.
11:16Yeah, that's true.
11:17Yeah.
11:18No, wait a minute, no.
11:19This is 1995, this movie.
11:20It even had Mortal Kombat and now later, like a couple of years later.
11:23And that CG was terrible.
11:24Oh.
11:25But anyway, also I think, I do believe it was the first movie where a, uh, fully CGI character
11:31was the main character instead of like, uh, you know, back down here or whatever.
11:35So that's pretty good.
11:36But yeah, the effects were pretty good.
11:38And the characters were, were we, uh, well animated and everything.
11:41The, the transparent effects and everything worked pretty good.
11:44It was a good job with that.
11:46I was saying this though.
11:47Something that did kind of bug me a little bit, looking at it now, Bill Coleman.
11:50I hated his reaction when he has, I guess because they're not there.
11:54And the way he acts and moves, it just looks awkward.
11:57He was trying to get around the ghosts and stuff.
11:59Um, the psychiatrist?
12:01Dad?
12:02Yeah, yeah, Bill Coleman.
12:03Yeah, Bill Coleman.
12:04I mean, the way he was like, kind of moving around, just, I just did not like that.
12:07It just looked weird to me.
12:08Like he was like drunk or something.
12:10I don't know.
12:11But, but you know, he can only do so much.
12:13But I liked his character.
12:14I did like the scene though, cause special effects.
12:17Like when, uh, Casper was giving her the, the orange juice cup or something.
12:21And she grabbed it.
12:22It did very good.
12:23Cause you know, you gotta do, I don't know, practical effects or wires or whatever.
12:26But, but the effect did come out very well.
12:28Yeah.
12:29Cause hearing that, you know, Casper's not really there and all that.
12:31You know.
12:32But she wanted to get into the thing and he grabbed it.
12:34Like that was a very good, you know, it's the kind that makes me highly do that so perfectly.
12:38You know, that kind of thing.
12:39And that's why I like practical effects.
12:41Cause you know, you have to be really creative to pull off certain things.
12:44Now, something watching the movie now, um, that did bug me.
12:50Uh oh.
12:51It's the, okay like, well not really bug me.
12:54I just wish it could have been fleshed out a bit better.
12:56So going back to the doctor with the, um, with the uncles.
13:00He got that rapport with them, but we don't fully see how that fully worked out and fleshed it out.
13:08You know what I mean?
13:09Yeah.
13:10So I just felt that there was, there could have been more there.
13:12You know, with the, you know, like with the uncles and stuff.
13:15So like, okay, they were trying to scare him one minute and then the next minute,
13:18Oh, he's cool.
13:19Yeah.
13:20I'm going to, where are you going to hang with him?
13:22Take him out for a drink and all that stuff, you know?
13:24Yeah.
13:25And I thought that was kind of odd.
13:27Um.
13:28I think what happened maybe is because since he was like the, the first person to not run out so quickly.
13:34Like his guy here was, the thing is when he was like fed up and trying to pack up and go.
13:39Oh man, oh come on man.
13:40We don't have that much, you know, you're like the most fun guy we have here.
13:43You know, that kind of stuff.
13:44So maybe.
13:45Maybe.
13:46And he did say, they do seem to have more fun like messing with him.
13:49And they don't mess with the.
13:50Yeah, they don't mess with her.
13:51And I guess the one thing was like saying, well you guys suck.
13:54You know, she had that kind of attitude.
13:56And also too, um, Bibbs, the, um, the, the, the lawyer, the assistant to, um, our main, um, um, antagonist there.
14:05With him, oh my gosh, the way she treated him was so bad.
14:08I did remember that.
14:09But I would assume that he did.
14:12Because she, she knocked him out through the window.
14:17He got knocked out through that giant window.
14:19There's no way he could have lived from that.
14:21And I don't know if anybody, um, was old enough to know or remember him.
14:25But he was in quite a few things as well back then.
14:28And you might know him from Marley Paulie, Python.
14:30Or, um, the, the, um, National Lampoon vacation movies.
14:35The second one when they were in Europe.
14:36He was the biker that they always kept injuring.
14:39You know, I, you know, like unintentionally.
14:42You know, like, oh, he'd be holding the door for it.
14:45And he'd shut the door.
14:46Oh, he broke his leg.
14:47You know, that kind of thing.
14:48So, like, you know, stuff like that.
14:50But, yeah, I thought it was fun.
14:51I mean, it had his issues pacing-wise in some ways.
14:55Some things felt like a little too fast pace.
14:58Some things felt like there could have been a little more.
15:00Like I said, with him and the doctors.
15:01I mean, him and the uncle.
15:02I would have liked to see a bit more of that.
15:04Um, I think everything had been way too fast going into that party.
15:09I think they should have built that up a little more.
15:12But, like, you know, you only do so much.
15:14And I guess also because of the CGI and the limitations,
15:17they had to make it faster paced.
15:19They probably do most of the budget on the CGI.
15:21Yeah.
15:22I do remember a little bit when you were talking about, like,
15:26on, I think it was Entertainment Tonight,
15:28when they were talking about the making,
15:29how they were doing the Casper movie.
15:31And, of course, they had these famous people.
15:33And you know, you had Bill Pullman.
15:34You had Christina Ricci.
15:35You had Dan Aykroyd.
15:37You had Rhonda Dangerfield.
15:39You had Eastwood.
15:40I mean, you know, like, stuff like that.
15:42They were talking about it.
15:43And, you know, they were going behind, like,
15:46how they were going to do the computer graphics and all that.
15:50You know?
15:51So, I thought that...
15:52See, that's why Entertainment Tonight used to be actually interesting folks.
15:55Yeah.
15:56Alright.
15:57So, yeah, I guess that's pretty much it.
15:58I don't got any final thoughts or anything?
16:00Not much.
16:01I think it's still a good entertaining movie.
16:03It's not too long.
16:04Um...
16:05Um...
16:06CGI did too great for it back then.
16:08And Casper looks like Casper.
16:09Because...
16:10Lord knows, nowadays,
16:11they want to try to make him look more realistic or whatever.
16:13Like...
16:14So...
16:15Um...
16:16I'm glad that he, um...
16:18Looks like Casper.
16:19Yeah.
16:20Oh, and there is something else that you said did bug me even back then?
16:25Where was Casper and them getting the food to cook?
16:29That bugged me when I was a kid.
16:31That bugged me back then.
16:32Teenage me watching this movie.
16:34That bugged me.
16:35Yeah.
16:36Because they're wasting all that food.
16:37And...
16:38Where are they getting the food?
16:39Because it's not like they're...
16:41They can go into the store and they'll say,
16:43Hey!
16:44They went here.
16:45They probably got...
16:46Stealed from it somehow.
16:47Yeah.
16:48So anyway, that wraps up for the review center.
16:50Where everything and anything can be reviewed.
16:51I enjoyed the movie.
16:52And I also enjoyed my pina colada while watching the movie.
16:55And yeah.
16:56A lot of fun.
16:57So anyways, guys.
16:58We'll see you next time.
16:59See you next time.
17:00Alright.
17:01See you guys.
17:02And if you want...
17:03You want to watch a continuation of Casper from what I remember.
17:05They did make a cartoon based on this movie.
17:07They kept all the same cast people that did the voices for like the ghosts and stuff.
17:11Minus, you know, the main people.
17:13So, you know.
17:14Busy.
17:15So.
17:16Yep.
17:17See you guys.
