Cheaper contraception offers choice: NuvaRing added to PBS

00:00It's in large part because of the representation of women in the Labor Party and being in government

00:06that we've been able to make significant changes for women in Australia.

00:09And I'm really proud that our government has made investments in our women's health package

00:13that are seeing the listing of more contraceptives.

00:16In some cases, we are seeing women have access to choice and affordability for the first time in their lives.

00:23For more than 30 years, there were no new listings on the PBS of medicines like contraceptives.

00:27And in large part, that's just because women have been neglected in our health system.

00:31It took the Labor government to change that.

00:33I'm really proud that on the 1st of November this year, we're going to see more changes and improvements

00:38for women's choice and access and affordability when it comes to their health care.

00:43On the 1st of November, which is just this Saturday, NuvaRing is going to be listed on the PBS,

00:47another contraceptive choice for women here in Australia.

00:51Since the start of this year, we've seen nearly 500,000 women benefit from cheaper medicines

00:57because of Labor's commitment to invest in women's health.

01:01More than 500,000 women benefited from a listing of new contraceptives, endometriosis medicines

01:08and menopause medicines, filling about 1.2 million scripts.

01:13This is saving women here in Australia money every week as they go and access the medicines they need.

01:19And across the country, women have saved about $41 million since the start of this year.

01:27During these past year, women fez nothing to pay for, but they were only raw is nothing to my clients.

01:30That's why they never represented.

01:32And we're at $48 million.
