00:00We are expecting a phone call elsewhere in Europe between Vladimir Putin and President
00:04Trump on Monday.
00:05What are we expecting?
00:07So, listen, what we got from Donald Trump over the weekend was this announcement that
00:12he will be speaking with Vladimir Putin at 10 a.m. Eastern time, so 4 p.m. Central European
00:17time, in order to make a sort of breakthrough in the discussions between Ukraine and Russia
00:22in terms of the possible ceasefire.
00:24Remember, this is something that the Trump administration has been putting increasingly
00:27pressure on.
00:28The Europeans got on board with it, the Ukrainians trying to get that 30-day ceasefire, which
00:32Putin rejected last week.
00:34We had these sort of talks in Turkey that led to nowhere.
00:36And the idea now is that Donald Trump will try to break through that deadlock and try
00:41to advance the conversation around the ceasefire.
00:43We've had a flurry of diplomatic activity over the last 48 hours.
00:46We had J.D. Vance meeting with Zelensky for the first time since that Oval Office blow-up
00:51in Rome and Italy over the weekend.
00:53We had a call between Friedrich Merz, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Georgia Maloney speaking
00:59with Donald Trump yesterday, trying to get his ear ahead of this conversation with Putin.
01:02And all the leaders I spoke to last week at the end of the week in Albania were saying
01:06that basically Trump is just, I mean, Putin is just playing games, trying to buy for time
01:10as he prepares for this conversation with Trump.
01:13The question is, will he be able to break through?
01:15And for the Trump administration, no matter what happens in this phone call, this will
01:18take them closer to having to decide who the problem is.
01:21Is it Zelensky?
01:22Is it Putin?
01:23Or is the problem too complex for them to solve?
