00:00Shipping gifts this holiday season is about to get more expensive.
00:06The U.S. Postal Service is raising prices on some package services beginning on October 5th.
00:13The USPS announced the move in August and customers can expect an increase anywhere from $0.30 to $16
00:19depending on region, type of mail and weight of the parcel.
00:23The price increases will be suspended come January 18th.
00:26USPS tells ABC News that the price increases are to cover extra handling costs
00:32and bring prices in line with competitive practices.
00:36The Postal Service is also encouraging people to ship packages by mid-December
00:40to ensure on-time delivery, with a deadline beginning on December 16th for some states
00:46and as late as December 20th for certain mail.
