00:00If you're watching this, you probably didn't get raptured this week.
00:03Neither did the other 8 billion people on the planet.
00:06So unless heaven has a strict no TikTok policy, it's safe to say we're all still here.
00:10Now before we go any further, this video isn't preaching.
00:13And it's not anti-religion, it's just facts.
00:16Historical, theological, and occasionally uncomfortable facts.
00:19Despite the flood of apocalyptic TikToks and a few suspiciously quiet group chats, the
00:23idea of the rapture isn't exactly in the Bible.
00:26That's right, no verse says Jesus will swoop down like a divine Uber and whisk away the
00:29righteous while the rest get left behind to deal with the chaos.
00:32So where did it come from?
00:33John Nelson Darby, a 19th century Irish preacher who looked at the scripture and said, what
00:38if Jesus came back twice?
00:40According to Pew Research, 41% of US Christians believe Jesus will definitely or probably return
00:45by 2050, and many of them associate that return with rapture-like events.
00:49But not all Christians are on board.
00:51Religious scholar Maria Monzo says, quote, not all Christian traditions believe in the doctrine
00:55of the rapture.
00:56While Catholic, Orthodox, and mainline Protestant groups emphasize the eventual return of Christ,
01:01they often caution against predicting exact timelines.
01:04If you're comfortable sharing, what do you think?
01:06Is rapture fanfiction or is it canon?
