00:00A toy with a toothy grin is causing big trouble that U.S. officials are warning could be deadly.

00:08Counterfeit LeBouBou dolls, nicknamed LeFouFous Online, are being sold as the real thing.

00:13But U.S. safety officials say they can snap apart, creating choking hazards that put young children at risk.

00:20The Consumer Product Safety Commission is telling parents to avoid the fake toys and throw them away if they already have them.

00:26Real LeBouBou dolls from Pop Mart can sell for around $30 in blind boxes and even more on the resale market.

00:34That demand has made room for fakes, some sold for as little as $5.

00:38The CPSC says look for signs like a holographic Pop Mart sticker, a QR code, or the doll's nine-toothed smile to help spot the real thing.
