00:00The U.S. Coast Guard announced a historic seizure of more than 76,000 pounds of illegal drugs worth more than $470 million Monday.
00:11It's the largest amount of drugs seized in the Coast Guard's history.
00:15The Coast Guard cutter crew seized nearly 62,000 pounds of cocaine and more than 14,000 pounds of marijuana.
00:22The agency calls it a significant victory in the fight against transnational criminal organizations.
00:27Adding the cocaine seized by the Coast Guard represent potentially 23 million lethal doses or enough to fatally overdose the entire population of Florida.
00:37The seizures came through 19 interceptions in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea between late June and August 18th.
00:45The operations also resulted in the arrests of 34 suspected drug smugglers.
00:49The agency released some videos of the seizures, including one on June 26th, where two vessels were stopped, resulting in the capture of more than 8,800 pounds of cocaine.
01:00The U.S. Coast Guard says 80 percent of drugs are intercepted on the high seas, and drug seizures take away more than a half billion dollars in revenue from drug smugglers.
