00:00Hockey legend and Hall of Fame goalie Ed Jockerman, who played most of his NHL career for the Rangers, died Monday at the age of 86.
00:08In a statement from the franchise, they called the legendary goalie an integral member of the New York Rangers for a decade who personified what being a Ranger is all about.
00:19Let's celebrate his legendary career.
00:21After years of playing in leagues like the EHL, the Eastern Professional Hockey League, and the American Hockey League, Providence traded him to the Rangers on May 18, 1965.
00:32He went 8-20 with six ties for the last place New York and was demoted.
00:37But the following season, he led the NHL in wins with 30 and shutouts with nine and was named an NHL first-team All-Star en route to helping the Rangers make the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 1962.
00:51He was named an All-Star five straight times between 1967 and 1971 and won the Vezina Trophy during the 1970-71 season when the Rangers allowed the fewest goals during the regular season.
01:05After losing the 72 Stanley Cup final in six games to Boston, New York and Jockerman lost the 1973 and 74 semifinals and was upset by the Islanders in the 1975 preliminary round.
01:19The Rangers then placed him on waivers and he was claimed by the Detroit Red Wings on October 31, 1975.
01:27Two nights later, he returned to Madison Square Garden as a visiting player for the first time.
01:32The Red Wings defeated the Rangers 6-4 with fans chanting his name throughout the entire game.
01:39Jockerman later retired from the NHL after the 77-78 season with 290 wins and 54 shutouts in 610 regular season games.
01:50He entered the Hall of Fame with the class of 1987 and the Rangers retired his legendary number one jersey on March 15, 1989.
