00:00Can you take us through scoring on that play in the eighth inning?
00:03At what point did you know you could score there?
00:05I mean, going through my head, I'm already running,
00:09so any ball that an outfielder moves to the left or right,
00:13I got a score in my head.
00:15So that's all I was thinking.
00:18Next question.
00:21Jerry?
00:25Jazz, obviously that's a must win for you guys.
00:28As that game was going on, did you feel, Ben used the expression all in on their side as well,
00:33he's in the bullpen so early, going to Garrett before he pitches,
00:36did you feel as the game got out, it was as much a must win for them as it was for you?
00:41I feel like every game is a must win, you know.
00:43I feel like, especially for us, it's like we want to win every day.
00:47So for us, like I feel like any other professional athlete thinking about a game
00:52that they want to play, it's a must win.
00:54You know, we always put everything out there on the line,
00:55especially it's the playoffs, you want to win every game.
00:58You know, you don't want to have no space or give another team a little bit of an edge, you know.
01:03So, obviously, I think it was a must win for them.
01:06Randy?
01:07Hey, Jazz.
01:08Two things.
01:09One, if you can talk about the play at second base that Fernando Cruz says
01:14it just kind of saved the game there.
01:16Did you think you had that?
01:17And also, how long did it take you to get over the disappointment from yesterday?
01:22By the time you came here today, are you over it and saying,
01:24all right, we've got a game to win, season's on the line?
01:26I mean, the play with Cruz, I'll answer that first.
01:32For me, I mean, you know what's going on in this 3-2 count,
01:36runner on second base, runner on first base, they're moving.
01:40You see a ground ball, you've got to stop it.
01:42You've got to keep it in the infield.
01:43You've got to stop that run from scoring in.
01:46I feel like at that point that would have been a really crucial run.
01:48So I was just doing all I can just to keep the ball in the infield,
01:52like not even trying to make the play at first base,
01:54just really trying to keep the ball in the infield.
01:56When I caught the ball is when I was like, okay, maybe I can make it at first base.
01:59But, you know, at the end of the day, it's just stopping that run from scoring.
02:03And to your other question, I mean, like I said,
02:07anything to help us win the next day is just win today, you know.
02:12So all that was clear before I came to the field today.
02:15After I left the field yesterday, it's win the next game.
02:19It's a win or go home for us.
02:21So it's all about winning.
02:23How did you get over that then?
02:24Was it home last night or what helped you get through that?
02:26I played MLB The Show and I'm going to see mercy roll someone.
02:32That's how I get my stress off.
02:36It's true.
02:39Far right, Bill.
02:40How key, it seemed like you had a play at first base during that seventh inning.
02:45What were you thinking there as far as scoring the runner out at first base?
02:50I was just trying to keep it in the infield.
02:52Outer is safe.
02:53I was just trying to make sure the runner didn't score.
02:54And everything is okay between me and Aaron Boone.
02:58There was never a problem between me and Aaron Boone.
03:00He's been my manager all year and I stood behind him all year.
03:03We always have disagreements.
03:05I mean, I played that race this year.
03:07We had a little bit of a disagreement in that.
03:09But at the end of the day, I always stand with Boone
03:12because he always understands where I come from.
03:14He knows I'm a passionate player.
03:15He knows I wear my feelings on my sleeve.
03:18And he knows that I'm going to compete.
03:20So, yeah.
03:24Any other suggestions?
03:25Okay.
03:26Can we go to Nate?
03:32Yeah, this one.
03:34We've seen Fernando Cruz be emotional before.
03:36But when he gets that last out there in the seventh and is coming off the field,
03:39I mean, what did you think of that?
03:41And what will kind of lift that provide for the team?
03:43Have you ever watched, like, The Lion King?
03:47And you see when they, like, Simba did his royal when he was, like, a younger pup?
03:52That's what that reminded me of.
03:55Like, that's what it really reminded me of.
03:56Because, like, you know, he's really, he really has those high spirits, you know.
04:00Like, walking around the clubhouse, you would never know that he did bad or good, you know.
04:04Like, all day, he just has that high energy every day.
04:07And just watching him go out there and getting out of that gym just shows you, like, you know,
04:12how much heart he has, you know.
04:13Like, he's always going to fight.
04:15He might be a little lion one day.
04:16He might be a big lion one day, you know.
04:18Like, it just, we go through the hard times.
04:20But, you know, at the end of the day, like, that's the guy I trust going out there every time.
04:24He's going to be emotional most of the times.
04:27But, you know, we love it, you know.
04:29I'm going to take two more.
04:30We've got calls.
04:30Wait, Erica?
04:31You have a whole Luffy outfit tonight.
04:35And he has a skill called Gear 2, which enhances his speed.
04:38You think he was as fast as Luffy tonight?
04:42Yeah, I think I was faster than Luffy tonight.
04:45I like that question.
04:48A lot.
04:51I've got to ask you, which team did you play with last night?
04:55I don't really show.
04:55And what was the score?
04:56It's called the New York Aliens.
04:58It's my own personal May team.
04:59It got me, Ken Griffey, Jr. on it.
05:03Jimmy Rollins.
05:04I mean, it's kind of a cheat go.
05:06But, you know, we're playing online, having fun.
05:09But it's a lot of fun.
05:11What was the score?
05:12The score was 12-1.
05:13Do you feel like this is the greatest groove you've ever been in as a professional player?
05:18I don't know if I'd say that.
05:21But, I mean, definitely like the momentum I got going right now and that the team has going right now.
05:27So, I feel like we're in a good place.
05:31Okay.
05:31Daniel, the middle on the left.
05:32Ben, you went into the regular season on quite a hot streak the homerun's night.
05:39What's been working for you so well at the plate lately?
05:42I think just being aggressive to where and what I'm looking for in the zone.
05:49Just always coming up there with a plan, being convicted in that, and just being ready to go.
05:54So, far right, Ben, I'll forgive them.
05:57Ben, how key was Jazz Chisholm's defensive play in the seventh inning?
06:02It's an unbelievable play.
06:04That's what you're going to get from him.
06:05Just a guy who's going to give 110% every play.
06:09You saw him run the bases there, too.
06:11Scoring all the way from first base on Wellesley's hit.
06:13So, I mean, just what a play.
06:16He's a really special athlete.
06:17Did you think he had a chance to throw him out?
06:20I know he was safe on the play.
06:21Yeah, I thought it was going to be close.
06:25Okay, down here in the front row, Dan.
06:31And just the homerun there in your first postseason at bat, what did that feel like?
06:36Felt amazing.
06:38No, it felt really good.
06:40Just to, you know, obviously coming off of a loss yesterday, too,
06:43and to kind of set the tone for us there early in the first inning,
06:47get us out to a lead, it felt really good.
06:50And just coming off of yesterday not playing, was that at all on your mind?
06:54Was it tough to deal with?
06:56No.
06:57I mean, I know my role, and yesterday my role was to, you know,
07:04be ready for a big at bat off the bench.
07:07And today I was starting.
07:08So, the approach doesn't change.
07:11I mean, I'm just going to be prepared for every at bat I get and every chance I get.
07:15The line drive to right field, did you think that that was going to have a chance?
07:19I don't know.
07:20I've had a good amount of those this year, right?
07:22So, I figured I honestly hit it a little too hard, so I ended up going right at him.
07:30But, yeah, I thought, you know, obviously when you square one up, you think it's going to be a hit.
07:35But I saw that he basically didn't even have to move to catch it, so, real stuff.
07:40Okay, put that hand in front, on the right.
07:44You look pretty animated as we were passing the dugout on that home run.
07:47Just what exactly is going through your mind at that moment?
07:49Yeah, kind of like what I was just describing about, you know, yesterday just, you know,
07:54losing a tough one there and being able to set the tone early for us in the first inning
07:59and give us a lead.
08:00I know it just was able to get the boys fired up, so being able to set the tone like that was huge.
08:08It's all right again, Brian.
08:12Ben, we know your story.
08:14Yankee fan, grew up in red-sized country.
08:16What does it mean to play in a series like this?
08:18What does it mean to your family?
08:19Yes, it's unbelievable.
08:22So cool to, you know, one, just be a part of the rivalry now.
08:26But, yeah, just given where I'm from and where I grew up and all that just makes it all that much more special.
08:36Do you think about that at all tonight?
08:38Of course, yeah.
08:39It just makes me that much more excited to be a part of it, just having that story.
08:46So, it's cool.
08:47You're on the left.
08:49Obviously, that's a bust one of you guys right there.
08:51Do you feel the urgency on their side increasing as they bring in the bullpen early and extend Whitlock, I think, to a season-high 48 pitches?
08:59Do you feel that they saw that as much of a must-win as you did?
09:04Absolutely.
09:05I think we kind of anticipated that going into the day.
09:09And that's why it was so important for us to jump out to an early lead and make them go to their bullpen right away and use all their guys.
09:16So, yeah, I think we all kind of had that read on it that they were going to, you know, go all in and try to match up with every single lane that they had.
09:27On the far right of the end, Rob?
09:29Ben, how would you describe Fernando's reaction coming off the field when he got out of that inning?
09:34Yeah, that's pretty on par for him.
09:36You know, I honestly wasn't surprised at how excited he was.
09:42I felt like I could see every vein popping out of his head.
09:46But that's what you get from him.
09:47That's the intensity you get.
09:49And we're really lucky now.
09:52Okay, one more here in the middle.
09:53Do it.
10:01Ben, now you're having a third game.
10:04How much help you're hungry and the win today for the next game tomorrow?
10:13Like, how much does it help going into tomorrow?
10:16I mean, great.
10:17You know, helps, you know, make you feel like you're in a good spot.
10:21And, of course, you know, is able to help the team win today.
10:23So, just gives myself and the team a lot of confidence going into tomorrow.
10:28How would you assess your outing time?
10:31Yeah, I mean, definitely a battle.
10:34They shrunk some good at-bats together.
10:37But, you know, defensively we had some great turns.
10:42You know, Cruz picked me up there in the seventh.
10:44And then, you know, I think we played a pretty complete ball game tonight.
10:48The boys swung it late.
10:49We ran the bases really well.
10:51I mean, played some good baseball and got out of there with a win.
10:54So, looking forward to tomorrow.
10:55You mentioned Cruz helping you out of that game.
11:01Yeah.
11:01Just what has he meant to this team this year?
11:03How would you describe this reaction?
11:06Yeah, I mean, he was pumped up, as he should be.
11:09I was, too.
11:10He's kind of been our fireman.
11:11But, we use him in those big situations like that.
11:15And, I mean, what an outing there for him to keep the game tied and, you know, give us a chance.
11:22So, that was huge.
11:23And Nate, all right.
11:25Carlos, just your thoughts on Austin Wells tonight.
11:28I mean, had the big hit at the end.
11:29But, also, you know, the job he did behind the plate on that.
11:31Yeah, I mean, he managed the game really well.
11:34As always, he's really turning quite the player.
11:39And then, the big hit there in the eighth.
11:41What a great at-bat.
11:43Tough at-bats.
11:44Pulling some tough pitches.
11:45And then, gets out in front of the change-up and just rides it out.
11:50And then, Jazz, the score from first there.
11:54You saw the speed, you know, the athleticism he brings.
11:57And, I mean, another great play there in the seventh for Jazz.
12:01Save a run.
12:02So, he had a big part in tonight's game as well.
12:06Okay, any ideas, Cops?
12:07Gary, on the left.
12:11Obviously, that's a must-win for you guys.
12:13As that game's unfolding and they start using their bullpen so early.
12:16And Whitlock those 48 pitches.
12:18Do you feel that becomes as much of a must-win game for them as it was for you guys?
12:23I mean, I feel like any game's a must-win game when you get to the playoffs.
12:26So, you know, they have a good bullpen.
12:29They try to, you know, run something there.
12:31And, you know, they threw the ball while they kept the game close.
12:34And, you know, I'm sure you'll see, you know, a bunch of bullpen arms possibly used tomorrow as well.
12:38I mean, every game's a must-win game.
12:39Obviously, tomorrow's a must-win game for both of us.
12:42Did you walk us through the interaction you had with Boone in the sixth when he came out?
12:45Was he looking to take you out and kind of argue your way to stay in?
12:49Or was he, did you get the sense of, like, he was going to leave you running out to five?
12:55You know, I'm playing, you know, under Boone for three years now.
12:59I just, I get a sense of, you know, the demeanor when he walks out.
13:04At times, you know, he makes a decision early.
13:05He points.
13:06But when I saw he crossed the line, didn't put his arm up, I knew I had a chance at a rebuttal.
13:12So I hit him straight with it.
13:14I was like, all right, here's my shot.
13:16And I've got to be pretty up front with it.
13:17So, you know, I set up saying it.
13:19And, you know, it worked out.
13:20Obviously, the big double play there, it was a great turn.
13:24You know, Jazz gives it up quick and then Volker with a strong throw.
13:26So, it was good.
13:29With Cam going tomorrow night, how would you kind of describe your confidence level
13:33in the rookie taking the ball for the Yankees tomorrow?
13:36Yeah, I mean, everybody knows the kind of stuff that Cam has.
13:42You know, he's equipped well with a pretty impressive arsenal.
13:47I'm excited to see him go to work.
13:49You know, I'm excited to see how, you know, the energy in the crowd
13:55and how he interacts with that.
13:57It's going to be really good for him.
13:58He needs to experience this.
14:01I'm looking forward to seeing him dominate tomorrow.
14:08Yeah.
14:08I'm looking forward to seeing him.
14:09I'm looking forward to seeing him.
