00:00Giants owner John Merrill has revealed that he's been diagnosed with cancer.
00:05That's heavy, that's real, that's not just business, that's human.
00:10So in a statement shared Monday by the team, Merrill revealed that he has recently been diagnosed with cancer
00:15and that he's feeling strong and optimistic while following the treatment plan recommended by an outstanding team of doctors.
00:23Now the statement comes one day after the Giants recorded their first win of the season, which was a 21-18 victory over the Chargers at MetLife Stadium.
00:32Merrill isn't just the face behind the franchise, he's part of the fabric of the Giants lore.
00:39He's been through the highs and the lows and the Super Bowls, the rebuilding years, the coaching changes,
00:45and now he's fighting a battle none of us wants to watch, but we should all respect.
00:50Now he's 70 years old and is in the 34th season with the franchise.
00:55He took over the team presidency role when his father, Wellington Merrill, passed away back in 2005.
01:02Our prayers are out with Mr. Merrill and his family, and we wish him a full recovery.
