00:00Short week for the Giants as the Eagles coming to MetLife Stadium for some Thursday night football.
00:07So we're going to switch things up a little bit.
00:09See if we can create a little bit of good juju around Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
00:13We switched our spots, Brendan London, Steve Serby, long time New York Post sports columnist.
00:19Serby, you've got articles coming out throughout the course of this week up until game day.
00:25First thing you want to talk about.
00:27First topic, you went into the locker room.
00:31It's time to put pen to paper.
00:33What are you going to be writing about?
00:34Pen to paper?
00:35Or I guess laptop.
00:37You must be old.
00:39Well, let's talk about Jackson Dart responding to his first NFL adversity in New Orleans.
00:47Everything was magic and beautiful for him at MetLife against the Chargers.
00:52He goes to the Superdome and not everything was super.
00:56So he's fine.
00:58He's physically healthy.
00:59Emotionally, he's great.
01:00You always want to see how a quarterback will respond.
01:04And his teammates believe he will respond back at MetLife against the Eagles.
01:10And Dart's looking forward.
01:11He's heard a lot about this rivalry, a rivalry that the Eagles have dominated.
01:1516 of the last 20 games, the Eagles have won.
01:19Saquon comes in now.
01:21Not the 2,000 yard Saquon, but a Saquon that's averaging 3.2 yards a carry.
01:29But still, the Giants are on high alert because they know he could break out and embarrass the organization as he did a year ago in that 28-3 massacre at MetLife.
01:44Small sample size for Jackson Dart so far.
01:48Two games.
01:49First game, he did it more with his legs.
01:52This second one, we were able to kind of watch the arm, did throw the interception, did have the fumble.
01:58What would you put Jackson Dart right now?
02:01Where would you grade him right now two games into his NFL career?
02:04Well, the turnovers last week against the Saints were problematic.
02:09I'd give him a C.
02:12Combine the first game, I'd give him an A- and this game I'd give him maybe a C-.
02:20Let's give him a B- to a C.
02:24Okay, you're like one of my high school teachers that scaled it for me so I could pass there.
02:29I love it.
02:30Yeah, well, I got a lot of C- in high school, but I'm going to give him a B-.
02:34Yeah, and I'm with you on that one because there was a couple throws that he did show that were dropped that shows,
02:41okay, this is why this kid is the future QB1 of this franchise.
02:46Now, one problem he's going to face against the Eagles is Vic Fangio and that Eagles defense.
02:53You remember what Fangio did to Mahomes in the Super Bowl when the Chiefs offensive line could not hold up.
03:00The good news for the Giants is Andrew Thomas is healthy, showed that he was healthy a week ago, is ready to go.
03:08It killed him a year ago.
03:10He missed that 28-3 Eagles game at MetLife.
03:13He'll be there this week.
03:15Illuminor looks like he's going to be ready to play right tackle and Tyrone Tracy may be back,
03:21may be back for the Thunder and Lightning attack with Cam Scadaboo.
03:27So, Dart will have some help this week.
03:31And, of course, his synergy with his buddy, Theo Johnson, you know, they go out to New York restaurants together
03:39and they hook up on the field together.
03:41So, that's pretty impressive.
03:42That's the best friend that you want.
03:44It's like when I see Victor Cruz and Eli Manning, like those two, like the chemistry is still there years later from playing with each other.
03:51But if you want to have a best friend on the team and you're a pass catcher, the quarterback is that guy.
03:57And I spoke to Theo Johnson and I asked him, like, where did this synergy, this chemistry come from?
04:04And Theo said that Jackson text him like a day or two after he was drafted and was like, hey, I can't wait to get to work with you.
04:12So, those two have been throwing, preparing themselves for a moment like this.
04:16Theo, three touchdowns in two games.
04:18Daniel Bellinger was involved.
04:20So, it's clear that Jackson Dart likes throwing to the tight end.
04:22Well, he doesn't have Malik neighbors anymore.
04:25Jalen Hyatt, what can we say about him?
04:28We're still waiting for him.
04:29Darius Slayton, a little bit banged up, right?
04:33So, the tight end now has to be his best friend.
04:37In addition, and you could throw passes to Tyrone Tracy and Scadaboo out of the backfield.
04:42But, you know, the Eagles, Jackson Dart now has been studied on tape by defensive coordinators around the league.
04:51And he's going to have to make adjustments with Brian Dable to the adjustments that he's going to see.
04:56Yeah, those D coordinators are going to be looking for tendencies.
04:59Tendencies.
05:00How can they make the rookie unhinged at times and kind of force him off his mark?
05:05Now, I know he's a little bit more dangerous than Russ when it comes to scrambling and keeping a play alive.
05:12But there, when they break down this NFL stuff on how they're going to attack a quarterback, it is a science.
05:19And they will make sure they flush him to wherever side that he is uncomfortable to throwing the football to put a defense in an advantageous position.
05:27And Vic Fangio is as good as it gets in the NFL.
05:30He is top class when it comes to coordinators in the NFL.
05:33We talked about Andrew Thomas, what that means for him to be back into the lineup or to continuously get better for Jackson Dart being in the lineup.
05:42Let's flip it because Dexter Lawrence was speaking today to the media and it's all about stopping the run if you're going to have a chance to beat the Eagles.
05:52And the Giants defense has not been able to consistently do that.
05:56So what scares you most, the weapons on the outside or the running back for the Eagles?
06:02The running back always.
06:03Saquon has, you know, he's going to be chomping at the bit to show up his old team, especially with his documentary out now.
06:10But he's averaging 3.2 yards a carry.
06:14So he's not going to be anywhere near 2,000 yards.
06:17But it starts, you've got to stop Saquon.
06:21And Dexter Lawrence is still harboring lingering effects from the illness that slowed him down against the Saints.
06:31So he will not be 100% Thursday night.
06:35He's going to rest up these next couple of days.
06:38But obviously, you know, Darius Alexander is a rookie.
06:42He's making progress.
06:43But stopping the run starts and stops with Dexter Lawrence.
06:47Sexy Dexy.
06:48Yeah, that's almost like losing Malik Nabors, you know, on the D-line.
06:52Dexter Lawrence is Malik Nabors in types of caliber of player and production.
06:57You didn't ask me about Abdul Carter.
06:59Abdul Carter.
07:00What?
07:01I'm asking you about Abdul Carter.
07:03Funny you should ask.
07:05Well, you know, he was an Eagles fan growing up.
07:08He went to the Super Bowl last year when the Eagles won their second Super Bowl championship.
07:13He said it was good.
07:14But Abdul Carter is a focused young man.
07:17He doesn't want to hear about how much of an Eagles fan he was.
07:21He doesn't want to hear about attending the Super Bowl.
07:25He just wants to get a sack.
07:27He wants to sack Jalen Hurts and impact the game the way he's capable of.
07:32Do you think that he will do that this week?
07:36Or do you think we see a week where that Giants big three or big four and pass rush fails to register another sack?
07:44Well, the Giants had several sacks a year ago in that 28-3 game.
07:49And I think Abdul Carter will get a sack.
07:54That's my prediction.
07:55He'll get a sack.
07:56KVa's been playing well.
07:57Brian Burns is a stud.
08:00I think, you know, the Eagles are a little bit banged up on the offensive line.
08:04So it's up to that defensive line to disrupt Jalen Hurts, stop the run, have some fun.
08:11That's what Jerry Reese used to say.
08:13But stop Saquon and make them, make Hurts target his disgruntled receivers who have been moaning about lack of targets up until last weekend.
08:25Devontae Smith had a lot of targets.
08:27AJ Brown still not the happiest camper.
08:30And I'm not the happiest camper because he's on one of my fantasy teams.
08:34You don't play fantasy.
08:35Nah, not at all.
08:36You fantasy people, you guys, I don't know how you could be playing a guy and rooting for him, but playing against him in another league and rooting against him.
08:43I don't.
08:44So when the ball's in the air and it's a 50-50 ball, do you want him to catch it or drop it?
08:48Both.
08:49I'm in five leagues.
08:50Hey, well, I mean, so here's the thing when it comes to stop the run, have some fun.
08:55If they can force the Eagles to throw and throw it to the weapons they have on the perimeter, I want to see more from the Giants defensive backs.
09:04And when I say more, I'm talking about getting your hands on the pass, not the player.
09:09The most penalized team when it comes to defensive pass interferences.
09:13So that could actually be a bad thing that the Eagles are trying to throw the football down the field.
09:18Because if the Giants DBs don't get their eyes back, get their head back, don't grab and make a play on the football, that's automatic first down, automatic drive extender.
09:28That's why they've invested all that money in those predators up front, make life easier for the secondary.
09:36Now, the secondary hasn't been doing its part, giving an extra split second for those pass rushers to attack the quarterback.
09:43So the pressure's on the front line, Carter, Thibodeau, Dex, and Burns, to make life easier on the defensive backs.
09:54And please, no more PIs on Deontay Banks.
09:58Yeah, lastly, it just, the news broke, or Odell broke the news himself that he is going to be serving a six-game suspension for violation of the use of PEDs.
10:11We talked about before we started filming what Odell meant to the game, not only on the field, but off the field, the impact.
10:20Where does this put Odell's legacy now?
10:24I don't think it changes his legacy much.
10:26He was a guy who was headed for a Hall of Fame, and fall from grace is the way you put it.
10:35I was there the night he made that iconic catch.
10:39You were not there that night, right?
10:41No.
10:42And then he had the Lil Wayne interview, and then Pat Shermer couldn't take any more of it.
10:47Dave Gettleman couldn't take any more of it.
10:50He went off to Cleveland, was exiled to Cleveland, as he put it.
10:53And then, first half against the Rams, he was on his way to MVP of the Super Bowl.
10:58Yes, he was. Yes, he was.
11:00And then, unfortunately for him, the injuries followed.
11:02Now he's a 30-something-year-old wide receiver who is looking for one last chance.
11:09And being suspended for six games is a sad end, if this is the end, to the Odell Beckham legacy.
11:18A guy that could have been and probably should have been a Hall of Famer.
11:23He was just electric.
11:26He was so much fun to watch.
11:28I still have my Odell jersey, I think.
11:31And there's probably still grown men out there with blonde mohawks.
11:35Like, he made that much of an impact off the field.
11:38So, you know, you hope he gets a chance somewhere after this six-game suspension.
11:44But, you know, just the way the league works sometimes, it can be funny.
11:48Go ahead, we'll wrap this thing up.
11:49When the Giants drafted him, they had a chance to draft Zach Martin,
11:52who is going to the Hall of Fame as an offensive lineman from the Cowboys.
11:57But Odell was the right choice at the right time at that time for Tom Coughlin
12:02because they were desperate for a playmaker.
12:04And he sure was a playmaker until he wasn't.
12:07You're still a playmaker, Serby.
12:09And that's going to wrap up your post-game practice report.
12:12Short week for the Giants, the Eagles coming into MetLife Stadium.
12:15For Brandon London, Steve Serby, thanks for watching.
