00:00So Penn State fired James Franklin on Sunday, but they want him to find a new job ASAP so they don't
00:05have to pick up the entire check for his buyout. Check this out y'all. According to Front Office
00:10Sports, Franklin's contract, which the Nittany Lions bought out for $49 million, includes a
00:16cause that calls for him to be diligent in searching for his next job. So here's what we
00:21know. The buyout is the second largest in college football history, trailing only the $76 million
00:27Texas A&M paid Jimbo Fisher to part ways. And according to the report, the clause in the
00:32contract Franklin signed back in November states, once terminated, the coach is obligated to
00:38diligently search for and make a good faith effort to obtain another position appropriate
00:43for his skill set, i.e. coaching, scouting, and broadcasting only, and to provide the
00:49university upon request with evidence that he is seeking such employment. The contract
00:55also has a note that calls for Franklin to make good faith efforts to obtain the maximum
01:01reasonable salary at his new job. So here's why. The note is tied to the normal offsetting
01:07pay clause that Franklin's contract has, which lessens the amount Penn State owes him if he
01:13gets another job. Translation, they want the man to search for and find another job at maximum
01:19salary, so they're not on the hook for the entire $49 million. Now, there are some high-profile
01:24jobs open that make sense for a guy like James Franklin's coaching pedigree to take. There's
01:31Arkansas, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Virginia Tech, and Stanford. Those are all some jobs that are
01:37officially vacant after the season. And it's James Franklin we're talking about. He could land
01:41any of these jobs if he wanted to. But the key word, if.
