Peace in Myanmar can only be durable if reconciliation efforts are led by locals, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said Asean member states, guided by the Five Point Consensus, have used every available channel and partner to reduce violence and ease the humanitarian crisis.

00:00Your Majesty, Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, as Chair this year, I ought first to recognize the support and understanding of my colleagues, the leaders of ASEAN.
00:13Through that, we are able to realign our priorities to keep the association resilient, relevant and responsive to the times.
00:23Together with fellow member states, we have worked to foster the conditions for peace in Myanmar.
00:28We know this requires patience and persistence and an honest appreciation of the realities on the ground.
00:36Guided by the five-point consensus, ASEAN has drawn on every available channel and partner to reduce violence and ease the humanitarian crisis.
00:48Balasting peace cannot be imposed.
00:51He must be Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led.
00:55Only then will the reconciliation endure.
