The Gaza atrocities are a return to barbarism in a modern guise, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his keynote address at the Kuala Lumpur Conference On A New Just and Humane International Order 2025 on Tuesday (Oct 14).  Anwar also defended Asean's decision to invite US President Donald Trump to the Asean Summit later this month, saying that they need to engage with the US to advance peace. 00:00Galvanizing the South is shaping a new international order.

00:11The world is, of course, testing the very ideas of justice and humanity

01:19There is no plan for comprehensive peace,

01:23no guarantee of return to the Palestinians,

01:29and no clear categorical statement to guarantee the formation of an independent state of Palestine.

01:46We are dealing with Netanyahu and his cabinet.

01:49We made no pretensions. They are not going to honor that.

01:53There were questions about our ASEAN invitation to President Trump,

01:57but I assure the House.

02:00We will continue to engage.

02:02We will state opposition,

02:04firmly and clearly,

02:06as we have done so,

02:08in front of President Biden or Olaf Scholz and the rest.

02:13Diplomacy is not a means to soothe our outrage or to massage our sense of place in the world,

02:23as if we alone were exempt from its compromises.

02:27It is the practical work of protecting our interests

02:30and advancing peace in an imperfect world.

02:43It demands balance, discipline,
