00:00I was really excited that we finally met Bertha's sister.

00:02First of all, what was it like working with Merit?

00:04How did she fit in?

00:06Bertha's behavior towards her sister is very demonstrative about how she feels about class.

00:10I take it from Bertha's expression that you're not expecting me.

00:13Of course we're expecting you.

00:14You're representing the O'Briens.

00:16You have a very important job to do.

00:18Well, where's Gladys?

00:20She's lying down.

00:22The whole thing has worn her out.

00:23I can imagine.

00:25I'll just go see if she's all right.

00:28What does George also glean from that?

00:30Well, of course, Merit, not only did she fit in seamlessly, but she also made me feel terrible

00:35because she's just such a truthful and natural actor.

00:39And when you see somebody like Merit Weaver walk on her set and just feel like a human being,

00:44which is something we fought so hard to feel like at the beginning,

00:47it just feels like I'm doing it wrong.

00:49Like, that's the feeling I had.

00:51If I'm being more generous about all of us,

00:54it's that we're always learning from these marvelous actors who come into the world.

00:57They have to get their sea legs in the world, too.

00:59And Merit described, she said,

01:01the channel is so narrow that you have to walk in this show because you can feel too theatrical,

01:05but you could also feel like you're too small for the costume and the space.

01:09And I thought that was a really good description.

01:10We loved having her as well as all the other marvelous Broadway actors we got to add to our company this year.

01:15It's just an embarrassment of riches, truly.

01:20I also enjoyed how George and, what's your sister's name?

01:25Monica.

01:26Monica.

01:26George and Monica only had a couple of little moments together,

01:29but there is this sort of, I feel like, the history that I felt that we both got to bring that moment

01:35was like a history of kind of looking at Bertha and being like,

01:38which was really, really fun to play with Merit.
