00:00It's clear that the Caribbean must remain a zone of peace.
00:07And in this regard, we strongly condemn the recent aggression and provocation by the United States of America in our region,
00:17manifested by the extrajudicial execution of at least 27 persons.
00:26And I think that number has risen within the last, the last, yes, including two Trinidadians by some six drone strikes,
00:38blowing up ships out of the waters within our region, and an intense buildup of war machinery off the coast of Venezuela.
00:46We thank and stand in solidarity with CARICOM governments, which issued a release reaffirming the principle of maintaining the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
01:00And with civil society organizations across the region who have issued a statement entitled,
01:06In Nobody's Backyard, an open letter to the U.S. military incursions and reaffirming the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
01:14As the ECTT strengthens its advocacy for decolonization, it is intolerable to watch these efforts by the United States of America
01:26to threaten the sovereignty of Caribbean states by reasserting principles of the Monroe Doctrine,
01:35which the U.S. believes it gives its government the right to arbitrarily intervene in countries in the region to stabilize them
01:46or, in fact, engage in activity to prevent what might be perceived as a threat to U.S. hegemony in the region.
