Cincinnati Bengals Logan Wilson Requests Trade After Benching: Instant Reaction
Transcript
00:00Logan Wilson wants out. I'm at Pacor Stadium where Ben Baby reported this, I don't know,
00:0620 minutes ago or so, and then he walked out the door like a boss. Look, I think a couple of
00:11things. One, that's the only time I'm ever going to praise Ben Baby. Two, this is expected. It's
00:17not shocking to probably anyone that Logan Wilson has requested a trade. If I were him, I would want
00:25out too because when you look at the Bengals linebacker play, and I do think that there's a
00:30path for Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter to be good linebackers in the NFL, well, Logan Wilson is
00:36a better linebacker today than those guys, and maybe the Bengals don't see it that way. Maybe they
00:41believe that these young guys, their athleticism, it's going to give them more overall on defense,
00:46but when you watch number 55 and then you watch the rookies, 44 and 49, hard for me to objectively
00:53say that Logan Wilson has been worse than those guys. What could the Bengals get in a trade? That's
00:59another topic, right? First things first, is two years after this year on his contract, a team,
01:05let's say a team trades for him and wants to release him at the end of the year, and they just want to
01:08rent him right now to help their linebacker room. You get $6 million, a $6 million dead cap hit,
01:14according to Spotrak. So look, it's one of those moves that if you did make it, you're not getting a
01:22ton in return. I would expect a late round pick. It's probably going to have some conditions on it.
01:26If you're the Bengals, do you do that? Do you consider making that move, or do you go the other
01:32route and say, we're going to hold on to him just in case there's an injury? We're going to hold on
01:36to him just in case, because he could matter for us. This is where it gets murky, because I could
01:43totally see the path where the Bengals trade him, especially if they want to add another piece
01:47elsewhere ahead of the deadline. But if they don't get what they're looking for, then if they're in
01:54it, if they beat the Jets Sunday, if they hang tight and hang firm in their contention status,
02:00which right now it feels a lot better than it did a few weeks ago, well then they're not going to
02:05just give Logan Wilson away, because Logan Wilson can still matter at some point. And so Logan Wilson
02:10wants to be traded. Not shocked by that. I could totally see it happening. At the same time,
02:16it's going to have to be the right deal. It's going to have to be the right team that comes
02:20calling. Who knows? Who knows what it could mean in Indianapolis? You think Luana Rumo is like,
02:26hey, I'll take 55 here in Indy. Wouldn't shock me. Jermaine Pratt's already there. Would not shock
02:31me one bit if Logan Wilson, if they get some calls on Logan Wilson. Will the Bengals make the move?
02:36Of course, we'll have you covered. Shout out to Ben, like I said, for breaking this news.
02:40And yeah, Logan Wilson wants out. But he's been a good soldier. That's the other thing I want to
02:44mention. He's been a good soldier and has mentored Barrett Carter, has had the right attitude as
02:50much as he can. So we'll see what happens. But a trade request from Logan Wilson. The trade deadline
02:55is November 4th. We'll see if he gets dealt.
