00:00Opening night for the official 2025-26 season began on Wednesday for the Dallas Mavericks as
00:10they took on the San Antonio Spurs on their home court of American Airlines Center, but unfortunately
00:15fell short with a final score of 125-92. The anticipation was high to watch rookie
00:21Cooper Flagg take the floor for his first official NBA season game, but he got off to
00:26a slow start until late into the third quarter where we saw Flagg start to gain a momentum
00:31and was able to accumulate a double-double just ahead of the fourth. For the rest of the
00:36team, we saw glimpses of offensive chemistry like the two-man game between D'Angelo Russell
00:40and Anthony Davis, as well as a few three-pointers from P.J. Washington to get the momentum going.
00:46However, this was not a defensive night for Dallas as Victor Wimbunyama and Stephon Castle
00:51had very strong offensive scoring nights. We heard from head coach Jason Kidd at the post-game
00:57presser and he stated that at the end of the second quarter is where they started to lose
01:01their focus. He said when you give up 31 fast break points, you're not going to win a lot of games.
01:06He also said that Cooper Flagg played well. He played within himself and even though the stats
01:10don't show that, for an 18-year-old who is a rookie, a double-double is not bad.
01:15I thought Cooper played within himself. He took what the defense gave him. He was making plays.
01:21He's diving on the floor. He's one that's not going to go out here and just shoot every time
01:26he touches it. He tries to play the game the right way and I thought he did that in the first half.
01:31I thought he was comfortable, came out there in the third and started to look to be aggressive
01:35to take some shots that he knocked down. I thought he played well.
01:41Anthony Davis led the Mavs with 22 points, 13 rebounds and one assist.
01:46Victor Wimbenyamo led the Spurs with 40 points, 15 rebounds and one assist.
