00:00chicken, fish. Okay, excellent. Break it. So what about the options that you
00:13choose, that you generally choose in healthy food in your diet? Do you follow
00:18a specific diet, for example? For example, in my case, I prefer to eat rice, a lot
00:29of chicken, sometimes vegetables, and in some case, I would like eat salad. Sometimes
00:42you, sometimes you what, sorry? I prefer eat salads. Okay. Okay, you prefer salad,
00:54sex, and vegan. That's the point. So we have this vocabulary here, which is healthy,
01:02unhealthy, fatty, high fat, low fat, salty, sweet, high calorie, and low calorie.
01:09Right? So what about unhealthy? What do you consider as unhealthy food in
01:14particular? Like any dish or any food that you would say, you know what, this is
01:22unhealthy? So what would it be? And when, when something is good for me, I think there
01:34are a lot of healthy foods. For example, what about grilled chicken? Do you know what
01:42grilled chicken is? Yes, I know. Grilled chicken is a chicken. On the grill it, right? Grilled,
01:52yes. Grilled is, for example, what is, when it's roasted. Do you know what that is? Like
01:57grilled chicken? Because you have chicken, you know, you have chicken and a chicken soup
02:01with vegetables, that's very healthy. That's very appropriate. For example, whenever you have
02:06a cold or anything like that, eating chicken is really helpful. But what about grilled chicken
02:13or roasted chicken? Do you know what that is? Yes, teacher, I prefer grilled chicken.
02:18Mm-hmm. So what do you think about grilled chicken? Is it healthy or unhealthy? I think it's healthy.
02:29Mm-hmm. So why some people, why do you think that some people say that it's unhealthy? I don't
02:40know, because sometimes, some people prefer the grilled chicken with another condiment or maybe
02:49because a, could we have, um, uh, that could be, uh, unhealthy food for, for someone, but I don't know why.
03:01Mm-hmm. And that's the point, you know, that's, that's correct. Well, I think that some people say that
03:06grilled chicken is unhealthy because of the, because of the high fat, you know, because of, uh, specifically
03:14because of this, uh, of this word fatty or high fat, high fat, which is a food that actually contains a lot
03:22of oil, you know, a lot of oil. So do you usually eat a lot of oil to your, to your meals, to your food
03:29in particular? No, I prefer a low oil in my, in my meats, in my eats. Oh, only in the meat?
03:39Only in the meat. So what did you say? That you prefer only oil in, in meat? No, I prefer low oil.
03:51Okay. In my meat. Okay. You prefer low oil in, in your meat, excellent. Very good. So what's, uh,
03:59what kind of meat do you, do you prefer to, to eat so as to have the best, uh, healthy option there?
04:07Like a healthy option, I prefer, for example, uh, a roast meat, uh, with a little bit of oil in my,
04:21in my meat. And also when I cook fish, I usually, uh, I prefer, uh, put a little, a little bit of oil.
04:37Okay, excellent, very good. So let me see, we have a reading about, uh, healthy and unhealthy food as
04:45well, but we have this reading today to check out what's the vocabulary and what's the pronunciation
04:52here? So let me, let me show you here, which is very interesting. So we have unit four.
05:06Here it is. We have it around here.
05:08Okay, so here we go. We're going to listen to the intonation and to the vocabulary
05:27of this, uh, interesting reading that we have here. So we can discuss a little bit,
05:32because there are many interesting concepts that are discussed here and we can see various examples
05:38related with the object pronouns, which are the ones that we were studying. So let me, let me see.
05:45We're going to listen to the vocabulary here and to the, uh, to the reading. So here we go.
05:58Let me see if, uh, let me see if, uh, let me see if I can
06:04read and listen, read and listen, healthy, unhealthy, fatty, high. Can you listen to the audio?
06:22Yes, teacher. Okay. Excellent. Okay. Because I'm using a different,
06:33a different software here, but I think it's working. So let's, let's see how it goes.
06:41Read and listen. Healthy, unhealthy, fatty, high fat, low fat.
06:53Salty, salty, sweet, high calorie, low calorie. Now listen again and repeat in the pauses. Healthy,
07:05healthy, unhealthy, fatty, unhealthy, fatty, high fat, low fat,
07:22salty, sweet, high calorie, low calorie. Read and listen. Did you know just one supersized fast food meal can have
07:50more calories than you should eat in an entire day? These tips can help you eat healthy meals
07:56and maintain a healthy weight when eating out and when eating at home.
08:01When you eat out,
08:03control your portions. Many people eat larger portions than they need, especially when eating away from home.
08:11Order something small or ask for a half portion. If you do order a large meal,
08:17take half of it at home or split it with someone else at the table. Sharing food is also less expensive.
08:26Avoid unhealthy snacks such as pizza, candy, and fast food.
08:30When you do get fast food, skip the fries and other high calorie, fatty, or salty options.
08:40Choose healthy options. Grilled chicken and fish are low fat and low calorie.
08:46If you really want some fried food, remove the breading from the food so it won't have so many calories.
08:54And at home, avoid eating in front of the TV. If you eat while you are doing other things,
09:01it's easy to lose track of how much you are eating.
09:05Eat slowly. Let your brain get the message that your stomach is full.
09:10Your brain needs about 20 minutes before it gets that message. If you eat fast, you will eat more food.
09:19Quick tips. Try to avoid high calorie cookies and cake for dessert.
09:25If you love sweets, try low fat frozen yogurt or fruit for dessert instead.
09:31Yogurt and fruit are both sweet and healthy. Avoid adding sugar to your food and drinks.
09:40So there we go with this reading. So what do you think about this reading, David? What did you understand from it?
09:53Let me show here. Here we go. What's like the general message that we have on this reading?
10:00I think we need to have a good habits to eat for each different meats.
10:16I think the main point here is try to eat healthy, right?
10:21Mm-hmm. Yes, try to eat healthy. So that's the point. So do you think that necessarily junk food and healthy food is really harmful as people say?
10:36Junk food is like fast food, right?
10:40Mm-hmm.
10:41Junk food. No, I think it's not a healthy food for us. It's not horrible, but we need it more healthy.
10:55So what do you think there are the main ingredients or the main characteristics that make junk food as unhealthy?
11:03What is the question, teacher? Can you repeat that?
11:15What do you think that are the main points that make junk food as unhealthy?
11:22Then junk food as unhealthy.
11:25What are the main aspects, the principal aspects, the essential aspects that make junk food unhealthy?
11:33No, I don't know. No, junk food could be a healthy food for us.
11:42Uh, no, but what are the main aspects for a junk food to be unhealthy? Do you understand what it means?
11:51No, I understand, teacher.
11:53Let's write it. So what are the main aspects? What are the main aspects of
12:03what are the main aspects that make junk food considered as unhealthy here?
12:20That's the question. So what do you think? Do you understand what that means?
12:24Yes, well, because the junk food have a lot of calories.
12:29Yes, and sometimes these foods are prepared with high, high oil or high fat.
12:39Yes, with high fat, excellent. That's the point.
12:45So in this case, well, some people say that they don't have any issues with consuming
12:51unhealthy food, you know, like junk food. What do you think that junk food affects some people and
12:58and it doesn't to others?
12:59Well, and daily habits that the people, the people have and also
13:20it's unhealthy food because
13:33could it be because of the lack of exercise or what other aspect could it could it be involved in
13:40in regard of uh in regard of defining what's uh healthy or what is unhealthy because you know,
13:47there's a lot of people that actually eat a lot of junk food and seemingly they don't have any negative
13:53effects for it, you know, so I don't know exactly what is uh um what is involved in that in those
14:01aspects because some people seem to have very good genetics or or is it because exercise or is it
14:09because the uh the daily habits that they have so what do you think is the main reason for which
14:15junk food does not affect to certain people
14:19well because there are a lot of people that do exercise every day and they have the opportunity to
14:28to eat some different uh foods and in this case uh they they could be preferred sometimes
14:36eat junk food junk food what i think is uh the main point is because they are doing exercise uh every day
14:51okay excellent very good and what is the importance of uh doing exercise every day what do you think
14:56like what are the main aspects in which uh in which doing physical activity may help you to maintain a good diet
15:07yes and also because we uh to be more healthy in for this
15:13to be more healthy and what to be healthier yes to be more healthy
15:27okay so we have to be to be healthier because healthy is healthy in this case it's an adjective that we say
15:37healthier in the compartment
15:42you see so we have to say healthier instead of more healthy you know because more healthy is not such a word
15:49healthier okay healthier okay so in this case we're gonna practice a little bit we have the introduction
16:00did you know that just one supersized fast food meal can have more calories than you should eat
16:07in an entire day these tips can help you eat healthy meals and maintain a healthy weight
16:13when eating out and when eating at home so we have this concept supersized food meal do you understand
16:22what a supersized meal food means what is the meaning of supersize did you ever hear that concept before
16:31not sure so what do you what do you imagine that it could be supersize what do you understand by the
16:39context big dishes i know fast food meal the one that we have on the screen can you see the screen
16:47yes i can see okay so the first paragraph just one supersize can you read the first the first paragraph
16:53please okay just one supersize fast food meal can have more calories than you should eat in an entire day
17:02okay these tips can you can help you healthy meals and maintain a healthy weight when eating with with 18
17:14out of uh eating out when eating out when eating out and when eating at home excellent very good so
17:25based on this context what could it be the message of uh supersize
17:30fast food meal what do you think it is because super sounds like something very very extreme you know
17:42like something massive something huge like super super sized fast food meal what what does it mean
17:51be a lot of quantities of meat yes it's something like that so in this case
18:05supersize fast food it's like a normal food a common food like a hamburger or a pizza but made bigger you
18:12know but made larger so you have your meal for a larger quantity for example if you have a large pizza you
18:20have an extra large pizza if you have a a large hamburger with a large soda and fries combo you may have
18:29a larger hamburger with a larger fries and soda combo you know so that's that's the meaning of
18:35supersize and this is this was a very common concept in the united states a couple years ago where all the
18:41fast food restaurants such as mcdonald's kentucky fried chicken and and uh and pizza hot you know and
18:49when these some of these restaurants used to sell used to sell uh supersized supersized options in their
18:57in their menus you know and for that reason a lot of people once was going for for this option because
19:03they say well it's a lot of food it's a lot of food just for a little more uh for a higher cost of
19:12money you know for a higher price but it's worth it because you get you get the double or sometimes
19:20the the food was a lot larger than than the the main large option so they actually went for that
19:27for that option to have a super meal you know so um so that was the thing until the government started
19:36to see that this option of supersize meal was was increasing obesity and uh and they they cut down
19:45a little bit of those aspects you know related to supersize uh supersize meals but um but still in the
19:54united states and in canada it is it's very common to find supersize options in snacks in fries
20:01uh in um in in chips bags you know whenever you go to the supermarket and you buy a chips bag and
20:13and it's a supersize uh so it's a it's a larger option you know to the to the standard large option
20:21that you usually have uh when you buy a soda when you know when you buy a pepsi or a or a coke it's
20:27really common to find a supersize option so this is uh sometimes this is a problem you know this is a
20:36problem because a lot of people are getting really overweight you know and in the united states there
20:41is a serious problem about it so we have uh the next one that says when you eat out i'm gonna show you
20:50a video you know about about that concept which is very interesting too but first we have when you
20:57eat out can you read the next paragraph there please hey teacher when you eat out uh control your
21:05portions many people eat large portion than they need especially when eating away from home order
21:14something small or or ask for a health portion if you order a large meal take health or take health
21:26up eat home or split split with someone else and table sharing food is also less expensive
21:36excellent break it so what do you understand when it says or ask for a half portion if you do order
21:44a large meal what's the meaning of that
21:47well that we need uh at least when we out of home maybe eat only the health the health portion that we have
22:02in our uh in our dish okay right like to divide uh to divide the portions you know to divide it now it is to
22:14to choose to try to choose better options in regard of the contents that we consume perfect so we have
22:22avoid unhealthy snacks such as pizza candy and fast food so continue with the next one please
22:33okay teacher avoid unhealthy snacks such a pizza candy and food and fast food
22:39when you do get fast food skip the fries and other high calorie a fatty or salty options okay so in this
22:52case we have skip the fries so it's as if the fries were prohibited so what do you think that this could
22:58actually help people uh to stay healthy or do you think that fries are as negative as as they are usually
23:07portrayed because fries actually come from potato and potato it's a vegetable so potato should be a healthy
23:16option but for some reason fries are very unhealthy uh but i think it's it's similar to what we discussed
23:26about the chicken that it contains a lot of oil and and they are uh and they are fried basically so
23:33so so do you really think that uh that removing fries or not choosing fries in the first place could actually
23:45help your your diet or your your health aspects what do you think well i think because the price
23:57uh had a lot of uh calories and and use a lot of uh fat in in the meal so i think we need to stop to fry
24:11sometimes because it's unhealthy for for us um okay excellent breaking so whenever you consume unhealthy food
24:22whenever you you you uh you have a hamburger or a pizza do you usually skip the fries or it's an option
24:30that you that you generally take no well i prefer my hamburger with fries because it's part of the meal
24:39it's part of the meal yes yeah but i i understand the concept right because uh we need to be more healthy
24:47sometimes that's the point you know so it's sometimes it's also very difficult because all of these
24:52options are already included like in the in the menu you know in the option that you choose and you say
24:59well i want to uh i wouldn't like to to choose the fries but still the whole meal will actually comes
25:09actually comes with fries and and you cannot skip them so uh it's like you don't have the option
25:16to decide because you are served the full meal with the fries and so it's it's already up to you to
25:24decide whether you eat them or not you know once that you have them in the dish but uh that's the
25:31difficult part actually because once that you have them you say well i already have my dish served
25:37so i have fries and they look delicious so i i'm going to go for for this option you know and that's
25:45and that's mostly the um the problem that we have because uh once that you have the option served
25:53in your in your dish it's really it's really difficult not not to take it you know so that's
26:00that's also another problem is for example whenever you go for an ice cream and you you say well i would
26:08like my ice cream without chocolate chips you know but the ice cream actually comes uh uh with chocolate
26:16chips you know and uh and you cannot remove them and obviously once that you have received the the
26:22ice cream ones that you have gotten your ice cream it it would be really difficult to like to remove
26:28the chocolate the chocolate chips or or any other fatty ingredient that it could contain so it's it's
26:38really difficult to to manage all these one of the strategies that the government followed is that
26:44uh they actually removed the uh the cartoony characters from different bags and and boxes
26:53do you think that measure actually helps to decrease the obesity index that we
27:00that we currently have david yes teacher i believe in that because the government
27:07have um some good good points to remove all these unhealthy food uh um
27:17main and mainly in in the schools or in other places when when they are kids uh
27:28like the characters right i mean they they actually removed the
27:32they actually removed all the characters from different uh envelopes and uh from the fries and so on so
27:41it's uh well it's it's something that i i hadn't ever seen before you know so it's uh it's something
27:49worth worth seeing but it's also very uh it's a strange measurement you know that i that i never had a chance
27:57to see before but i think that it's uh these days is considered as well as something positive that could
28:06actually help uh people and especially especially children to stay to stay a lot healthier so that's
28:15the point excellent very good so let me show you this video right here because it's really interesting
28:21so we can we can see a little bit so revisiting the rise of revisiting the rise of uh
28:29supersized portions in america right so we're gonna we're gonna have this here we go
28:37buying in bulk and eating large portions feels as american as apple pie but that wasn't always
28:43nowadays buying in bulk and eating large portions feels as american as apple pie but that wasn't always the case
28:49on this day in 1993 cbs viewers were treated to a report on the tastiest new trend in food take a
28:56look from the feds to your family doctor everybody tells you eat less so what are food makers doing
29:03to help they're making everything bigger too big to measure with the human eye it's the biggest in the
29:09business the george foreman of hot dogs whatever happened to watching what you eat seems there's a
29:15rebellion going on we're watching what we eat grow and in the 80s we had that sort of be fit be healthy
29:21and in the 90s we're sort of responding back sort of a backlash and big is the hedonistic response
29:27to the starvation of the 80s shoppers determined the trend they're reaching for big bottles super
29:33servings plump portions big is big is where it's at restaurants are getting in on the big trend too
29:39here at main street in new york city they serve food family style that means meatloaf at two and a
29:44half pounds of slab and mashed potatoes all you can eat humongous absolutely humongous i am watching
29:52my waiter i'm watching it blossom you know we can live our lives in total starvation eating absolutely
29:59nothing or we can try to live and have some fun i mean serving sizes are are so unbelievably small we've
30:09lost the sense of supposedly for meat for example a portion is a deck of cards three ounces real is
30:14that what we're supposed to be that's what you're supposed to be eating that's what that's what the
30:17that's what lepuk would tell us if we were here dr lepuk a good doctor can't handle it
30:28okay so that we have here you know what what actually catches my attention here is that
30:35they actually say that uh that uh well one of the one of the uh people at the end mentioned that
30:44uh well eating is is to have fun you know it's it's something fun it's considered something uh really
30:50entertaining and amusing because well you are experiencing new uh
30:58new flavors and and different possibilities that you have to mix the food or to increase
31:05its flavor you know so it's it's really it's really curious how how eating and and most uh
31:12essentially eating junk food is considered as something uh fun you know so what do you think
31:19about this video david you see there we have some scenes where where you can see that everything is
31:26gigantic you know everything is quite large to have in supersize option restaurants in the united states and
31:33that's the main reason for which they're having some issues with food especially since november 1st in 1993
31:40you know so we can see that this problem has has had um many years going on so what do you think
31:49yes i agree with your teacher because i think the people uh think is is funny sometimes eat a lot of food
32:00because maybe like uh like a challenge uh today but in the past it was a common need a lot of food but i think
32:12uh currently uh currently and in this time uh there there are some challenges in some restaurant
32:23then the people can eat uh big dishes or a lot of quantity in in his in his meal
32:31okay so that's the point so yeah i mean but in the thing is that it is you know i mean it is fun to
32:43to eat like uh whenever you're enjoying a good dish of meal or a good hamburger i mean it's it's something
32:51that uh that makes you feel fine that makes you feel well you know i mean eating it's it's part of our
32:57culture and uh and in many countries there are very uh tasty options to have in the in their menus so
33:07that's that's also the main the main issue with it but um and for example on the other hand in some of
33:16the countries for instance in japan people do not have so many uh like um
33:23um like so many unhealthy options because in japan they actually try to uh to maintain a good diet and
33:34and to follow a diet that does not include a lot of uh a lot of fat you know a lot of fatty ingredients
33:44but uh well it's really intriguing to see that we could actually get those uh levels in our culture
33:53in in mexico you know because well in this case everything seems to be really tasty and uh
34:00and it's and it's on its stuff you know what what else did you did you understand from this video david
34:06uh well if we continue um unhealthy food maybe we need a go to the doctor
34:21so to the to the doctor or or do you remember that uh that name of that doctor that helps you with with
34:32food do you know how it is said in english no i don't know how to say that teacher it's the nutrition
34:40yeah the nutritionist that's that's the one did you ever go to one did you ever have the chance to
34:47go to uh to a nutritionist yes i have the opportunity in the past to went to the
34:53nutritionist doctor or how do you say that yes about to go to the nutritionist
35:03like um to go to the nutritionist like to have a better uh assistance and to be able to track your
35:13your diet you know which sometimes it's it's something difficult to do by ourselves right
35:19but but yeah it's it's a good option so it's something that it can help you it's like having
35:24a personal trainer you know whenever you have a personal trainer uh in the gymnasium or or in any
35:33other sport that you practice to improve your your healthy aspect is something really positive that
35:38can help you to to track the calories and to be able to maintain an appropriate weight and a good diet
35:47you know so excellent very good so there we have so do you see any possible solutions to these uh to
35:56this problem that the united states the united states has in regard of uh supersized meals and obesity in
36:04their country well i think it's part of his culture right the people there has the um it's common for
36:15them it's a lot of people but i think uh we can remove this this culture from the school beginning there
36:28i think could be a good option for the future uh don't eat um this type of food or be more healthy for
36:37them to be healthier excellent bring it so that we have you know so in this case
36:47november 1st 1993 in a pickle over bigger portions you know this in a pickle it means that people has had
36:55like um the constant interest on getting involved eating uh bigger portions you know which is something
37:04that has been really difficult to control in the united states you know so that's that's a problem so
37:10let's let's see a little bit about these choose healthy options grilled chicken and fish are low fat and
37:21low calorie if you really want some fried food remove the breeding from the food as it won't have you so
37:27many calories as it won't have so many calories so the breeding do you know what the breeding is uh the
37:33the breeding from from the foot no i don't know well the the breeding is yeah the breeding is it's for
37:43example uh well breading uh breading is for example it's when you when you have the chicken that is roast
37:51but it it's when you add the flour and when you add flour to the food like for example to a to a piece
37:59of meat you add this flour so that you can make it crunchy you know that's that's the uh the the breading
38:06you know the breading is when you add this ingredient which is combined with uh sometimes with egg or with
38:15uh with flour so you add it to your meat to the slice of meat or to the piece of meat so you you you fry
38:23it and it is crunchy it's like the texture uh covered crunchy that you that you can add to to a piece of
38:32meat for example what you have in in kfc and and all of these restaurants you know that have this crunchy
38:38option so that's the point so in this case we're talking about these aspects of the of the reading
38:46i would like that you could make that you can make um like uh a paragraph here so as to share your
38:59opinion about the video that we watch and about the video that we watch and the reading that we had
39:05today so that we can we can see you can express your opinion you can write it in a in a text document
39:15or you can send it to whatsapp and and we can we can see what other aspects can we evaluate from this
39:23right do you have any questions about that not sure thank you okay excellent breaking so i'm gonna send
39:35you uh this reading let me let me paste it right here and the and the video because the video is really
