00:01Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has defended his legacy as Prime Minister after Anwar Ibrahim's defense

00:09During cross-examination in his 150 million ringgit lawsuit against Anwar, counsel Ranjit

00:15Singh questioned Mahathir about public perceptions of his leadership during his 22 years in power

00:21under Barca Nacional.

00:23Mahathir replied that no dictator has ever resigned when asked if he considered himself

00:27one.

00:28Ranjit then played a 2016 video where Mahathir appeared to admit being a dictator before,

00:34but Mahathir denied agreeing with that statement in context.

00:38He acknowledged understanding the concept of a dictator and agreed it referred to a leader

00:43who wields power without checks and balances, but disagreed that the 1987 Opera Silalang

00:49was an example of dictatorship.

00:51Ranjit also pointed to the 1998 Reformasi protests as proof of public opposition, but Mahathir

00:57maintained that they were not directed against him personally.

01:01Mahathir is suing Anwar over remarks made in March 2023 at the PKR Special National Congress.

01:07The PKR President is alleged to have said that someone in power for 22 years and 22 months

01:12had enriched himself, his family, and cronies, failed to pay taxes, and moved funds abroad.
