Legarda stresses importance of investing in traditional IP craft

Sen. Loren Legarda stresses the importance of investing in traditional craft of indigenous peoples, stressing that it does not only support the livelihood of communities but also strengthens national identity. As the chairman of the Philippine Senate Committee on Culture and the Arts, she said that the partnership of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) would help ensure that heritage-based skills would be recognized within the formal education system. TESDA and NCCA honored 13 GAMABA awardees for their dedication to preserving Filipino culture through their craftsmanship on Oct. 23, 2025.

01:36When we invest in traditional crops, we invest not only in sustaining livelihoods, but in strengthening our identity.
01:46Hindi natin makihiwalay ang kultura sa pag-gulag at pag-asenso, at lalong-lalong na sa edukasyon.
01:55Kaya naman, sinuro ko po ang RA-166, yung ating National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009,
02:06at yung ating Integrated History Act, RA-11961-10908, at ang Cultural Mapping Act, yan ay bago lamang.
