Trump says he will travel to Malaysia, Japan, South Korea

US President Donald Trump said Monday (Oct 20) that he will soon travel to Malaysia, Japan and South Korea, while saying he also wants "to be good to China."   Despite renewed trade tensions between the United States and China, Trump again struck an optimistic tone ahead of a possible meeting next week with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. 00:03great relationship I believe after we leave South Korea we'll be there

00:08together we thought that would be a good place to meet and we're going to be

00:14meeting I'll be in Malaysia I'll be in Japan I'll be in a couple of others we'll

00:18be sort of doing a little bit of a tour I've been invited to go to China and I'll

00:24be doing that sometime fairly early next year we have it sort of set but I

00:31think we're gonna have a very good relationship with China and again they

00:35will threaten us with rare earths I don't think they're threatening us too much

00:38right now but they could do that but I threaten them with something I think is

00:43much more powerful and that's tariffs because at a certain point they will not

00:47be able to do any business with us at a certain point if they pay enough tariffs

00:52it's almost like saying we don't want to do business with you but it's probably

00:56nicer saying you're gonna pay 158 157 percent tariff is a nicer way of saying

01:03that we don't want to do business with you and if they don't do business with

01:07us I think China's in big trouble I'll be honest with you I think China is I

01:12don't know that they even make it I really do I believe that they're in big

01:15trouble and I don't want them to be in big trouble I want them to do great I want

01:19them to thrive but we have to thrive together it's a two-way street I think

01:24when we finish our meetings and it's going to be a big deal look I'm meeting

01:28with a lot of other countries but this seems to be the one that people are

01:31very interested in I think when we finish our meetings in South Korea China and I

01:37will have a really fair and really great trade deal together I want them to buy

01:42soybeans they stopped buying our soybeans because they thought that was

01:45punishment and it is punishment to our farmers but we're not going to allow that

01:49to happen so I think we're going to end up having a fantastic deal with China

01:53it's going to be a great trade deal it's going to be fantastic for both countries

01:57and it's going to be fantastic for the entire world thank you very much
