00:00Of course we all know Zugzwang is when any move that you make leads to dramatic negative consequences for you.
00:09In endgames, especially in the pawns endgames, we often can deal with mutual Zugzwang.
00:16Where move for either side will have a devastating effect.
00:24So that's the simplest situation. Let's say black king is on e5, white king is on c6, and pawns on d5 and d6.
00:40Black to move, black lost. White to move, white lost.
00:46And for instance we can actually look at this position just a move before.
00:53So white king goes on b6, black goes on f5.
00:58Now it's the reverse. You have to make the right move and you win.
01:03So if white has to move, it should go king c7, attacking the pawn.
01:09And after king e5, king c6, winning.
01:12Now if black has to move, it goes king e4, attacking the pawn.
01:16Remember, don't touch the square before it's two or king c6, king e5, winning.
01:21So it's Zugzwang and mutual Zugzwang.
01:25And many, many positions.
01:26I can go on and on.
01:28We can spend hours and hours, hundreds of hours of different pawns endgames.
01:33And you will be shocked, positively shocked, surprised, amused
01:38by the depths of this analysis and the studies and the beauty of these combinations.
01:47Very few pieces, just pawns and kings, but so many intricate details.
01:52And so many patterns to learn.
01:57There are.
01:58There are.
02:00There that is.
