00:01No sooner had Nicolas Sarkozy entered the prison gates than his lawyers filed a request for release to the appeals court.
00:09They say the former French president meets all the criteria.
00:13He arrived at the prison at 9.35 to be incarcerated.
00:18There's no risk of the offense being repeated, no risk of evidence being destroyed.
00:22There is no evidence, no risk of pressure being exerted on witnesses.
00:26There is no justification for even an hour of detention.
00:32Judges have up to two months to return their decision, but it normally takes three weeks on average.
00:38They can refuse to release Sarkozy or accept, but under various conditions.
00:43He could be freed with no restrictions, placed under house arrest with an electronic ankle tag,
00:49or placed under judicial supervision, with the obligation to report regularly to a police station until the appeal trial.
00:57A trial which could take place next spring and which is eagerly awaited by his lawyers.
