The Taklimakan Desert, located in northwest China, has experienced an impressive transformation. After more than forty years of effort, China has successfully established a green belt stretching over 2,700 kilometers around the so-called "Sea of Death." 00:09of more than 2,700 kilometers around the so-called Sea of Death.

00:22I am in the Chinese capital to inform you this time
00:25that satellite images confirm the success of the project that halted the advance
00:32covering more than 330,000 square kilometers
00:37is now surrounded by an ecological barrier of vegetation
00:43capable of resisting erosion and stabilizing the dunes.
00:48On the northern edge of the desert, the Eichmann Lake area
00:55was a source of sandstorms into a verdant ecosystem.
01:00Recycled water was used there to irrigate more than 30,000 hectares of ecological forest,
01:10increasing the forest cover from 4% to 45%
01:17and restoring more than 18% of the wetlands.
01:22Simultaneously, in the southeast of the Taklimakian Desert,
01:28thousands of trees were planted,
01:31where previously a desertified land.
01:36And in the far south, large solar energy projects and agricultural plantations
01:42are now helping to halt the advance of the sands,
01:47combining reforestation and energy transition.
01:52With this completion of the Green Belt by the end of 2024,
02:05China now managed to contain the expansion of the country's largest desert,
02:12climate, but also turn it into a global symbol of climate adaptation
02:18and sustainable resource management.
