00:01Welcome to our latest update on the Tigers coaching staff changes. The Tigers are set
00:05to experience a shift in their coaching staff for the first time in two years. According to a source
00:10cited by MLB.com, Anthony Iaposi, who has served as Detroit's first base coach for the past two
00:16seasons, will not be returning for the upcoming season. While the Tigers have not yet made any
00:22official announcements regarding coaching changes, the news of Iaposi's departure was initially
00:28reported by Andy Martino of SNY. At 52 years old, Iaposi joined manager A.J. Hinch's team
00:36after previously managing at AAA Toledo in 2023. He has extensive experience as a hitting coach,
00:44having spent three years each with the Cubs, 2019-2021, and the Rangers, 2016-2018, as well
00:53as a year as the senior hitting coordinator for the Red Sox, in 2022. After undergoing knee surgery
01:00last fall, he returned to his role at first base. Iaposi was well-liked by the players, with some
01:06even sporting Coach Posch t-shirts during pre-game activities. It remains unclear how the Tigers will
01:13proceed in filling this coaching position. If they choose to promote from within, one potential
01:18candidate could be former Detroit infielder Gabe Alvarez, who led Toledo to success in the
01:24international league. This season's playoff race, following consecutive Eastern League championships
01:29at AA Erie, makes him a strong candidate for a managerial position. Currently, he is managing
01:36winter baseball for Los Yaquis de Obregon in the Mexican Pacific League, and he may also be considered
01:42for other coaching roles in Major League Baseball once the managerial changes are finalized. On the
01:48other hand, the significant turnover in managerial positions across the majors means that numerous
01:54coaches from different teams will be available if the Tigers decide to seek candidates outside their
01:59organization. Gary Jones, a coach for the Tigers, previously held the position of first base coach in
02:05Detroit in 2022 and transitioned to third base coach in 2023 before taking on a dugout coaching
02:12role with the team for the past two years. In 2020, Bowsons, I, when Choubi does it for 20
02:18days, what he lost in 2020, he sustained a fractured ankle after being struck by a foul ball.
