00:15degradation. Bruno Faustia, correspondent in Beijing, has details.
00:20Greetings to the colleagues of Telesur. I am here in the Chinese capital, this time
00:26to inform you about the transformation of the Boston Lake in the Xinjiang-Ungur
00:33Autonomous Region, the country's largest freshwater lake. Xinjiang is one of the
00:40driest areas in China, but this lake has become an oasis where life thrives and is
00:48today the region's main fishing base. More than a decade ago, it was completely
00:56different. Boston Lake faced a serious environment crisis, industrial pollution
01:03and water levels at historical lows. To reverse this situation, the government
01:10water-water diversed from nearby rivers and sending more than 50 billion cubic
01:18meters of water into the lake. Today, the lake maintains a healthy level
01:25and is home to more than 30 species of fish, with an annual catch of 6,000 tons,
01:34almost the double of the previous amount. Fishermen are also actively involved in conservation,
01:42releasing juvenile fish and reintroducing fry. With water quality remains stable and at a good level.
01:52The lake recovery has also boosted regional tourism and reflects the success of Xinjiang water management.
02:03Since 2021, the region has invested approximately 22 billion dollars in water infrastructure,
02:13achieving rural drinking water coverage for 99 percent of the population. With this news,
02:22we return to the studio of La Habana, Cuba.
