South Korea's golden city Gyeongju, host of this year's APEC summit
South Korea's historic city of Gyeongju is due to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit from October 31 to November 1.
The city, in the southeastern part of South Korea, has a rich cultural heritage, being home to ancient tombs, temples and royal relics due to the flourishing Silla Era, an ancient dynasty that lasted almost a thousand years from 57 BCE, according to the official website of Korea Heritage Service.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump are among the leaders reportedly planning to attend the APEC meeting, according to government sources. Key discussions will be trade, illicit drugs, and Russia's war in Ukraine, Trump said on Sunday (September 19) while speaking to journalists at the Oval Office.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is also expected to meet Trump in Gyeongju over paying $350 billion to the US for a trade deal, South Korea's National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said in late September.
The Theme and Priorities of this year's summit is "Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper," according to the APEC 2025 official website.
