North Korea commemorates a traditional ritual ceremony on Oct. 3, 2025 to mark the founding of ancient Korea. In a video provided to Reuters by the North's official news agency KCNA, which could not be independently verified, people and officials were seen gathering at the Mausoleum of King Tangun in Pyongyang. The holiday, known as National Foundation Day in both Koreas, celebrates the legendary founding of the first kingdom on the Korean Peninsula by King Tangun more than 4,000 years ago. The day is observed in South Korea as well, where it is celebrated as a national holiday marking the legendary origins of the Korean nation.
