00:00I'd never been so scorned to find your kindness in love
00:21Beyond a cry you've been my split up on your machine
00:24And if I'd asked for how you'd answer, I'd have gone and see my father down
00:31At Brom to the 17th
00:34I hope your back is healing from that corner of the lane
00:39And you could still stay with me
00:43Where it went my pride, been to the little pill
00:49God knows I left it by mistake
00:52God knows I left it by mistake

02:59Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, where comes your girl?
03:07PLEASE S age
03:17So good. Thank you. Wonderful. The Last Dinner Party!
03:26Superb line up tonight. Let's hear it. Because from Los Angeles via трудising we have Tyler Ballgame.
03:32From Puerto Rico, Princess Nokia.
03:39From London, Celeste.
03:43But now, from Northwich, Cheshire, it's The Charlatans.
04:02We know, we know where we're going, no, we're lost in choices that we're facing.
04:30Have a castle, man, looking for the truth in all this darkness, it shines on us.
04:44Ever-present, what I'm not available, my glass of empty, yours are full.
04:54You got me acting irrational, this is the place, these are the days, we are love.
05:09Not sure what it's, the language is the gift that we can heal the rift.
05:30Accepting all we are, now try to spot the grip.
05:37Let's take a path we're seeking, look for what we miss.
05:43Raise your fist.
05:44Spend all day together, and let the night dream of taking one.
05:59It's a cheaper call, but impossible, days will never be done.
06:10Feeling exceptional, this is the place, these are the days, we are love.
06:24We are love.
06:35We are love.
06:37You got me acting irrational, my glass of empty, yours are full.
06:54You got me acting irrational, my glass of empty, yours are full.
07:05This is the place, these are the days, we are love.
07:15We are love.
07:17We are love.
07:20Yeah, we are love.
07:22We are love.
07:26We are love.
07:28We Are Love, title track from the M.U. album.
07:47The Charlatans.
07:51Now I think it's time for piano side chats with Abigail Morris and Emily Roberts
07:57from The Last Dinner Party. Welcome to the show, it's fantastic to have you here.
08:01Thank you so much for coming.
08:04The band is going from strength to strength. You came on last summer, it's great, it's even better now.
08:09And you have had enormous success because you've had Brits, number one album, all of these things have happened.
08:15Is the whirlwind success, is it how you imagined it was going to be?
08:20Well it kind of feels like a montage from a film, so yeah, a bit, yeah, I guess.
08:24What sort of a film would it be?
08:26Oh no, almost famous.
08:28Oh yeah.
08:29Is it right that you started off with writing out a manifesto for your future band, what you wanted to have?
08:36Yes, that is true.
08:37And what did you put on it?
08:39What did we put? Schemes.
08:41There was colour palettes, that was a big focus.
08:44We knew how we wanted to dress and the kind of visual world we wanted to create and sort of references from film and ballet and theatre and the kind of sound we wanted.
08:54And I think also the kind of feeling we wanted people to take away from seeing us live, of feeling that you've been kind of at a dinner party with your friends and that kind of excitement.
09:03Your set before, because you did have all candelabras and things before, but you haven't got those now.
09:08No, it's not now.
09:09It's a minimalism.
09:10No, we're not now.
09:11Now your latest album has a great sleeve and it's got you all dancing round the bonfire pressed in red, very medieval looking.
09:20Is anything that particularly inspired that cover?
09:23Yeah, I mean we were really drawn to kind of like that medieval sort of Hieronymus Bosque kind of tableau.
09:30And there's a film by Ingmar Bergman called The Seventh Seal.
09:33And there's a scene where the characters are kind of walking across a hill in formation, kind of dancing like that.
09:39And that was quite a big inspiration.
09:41One of my favourite films.
09:42There you go.
09:43And Jess plays...
09:44Jess.
09:45Jess with the knight.
09:46Yeah, great.
09:47What a treat.
09:48Now, I believe there was a David Bowie exhibition.
09:51No, you went and helped curate some of the exhibition.
09:54What did you do there?
09:55We co-curated with Niall Rogers, which was really cool.
09:59And when we got asked to do it, we were like, absolutely, yes, we'll do it.
10:03Because David Bowie is like a common influence between the five of us.
10:07And it's been an influence for like both albums.
10:10So, yeah, and you picked out some really cool things from the archive.
10:13Handwritten lyrics.
10:14Oh, wow.
10:15Oh, wow.
10:16Well, because it's more than an exhibition.
10:17It's a permanent archive that they've got in the V&A East in the storehouse.
10:21And instead of just kind of going and looking at things behind glass, you can book an appointment
10:25and then go and go through his archive kind of on your own with, you know, under supervision
10:30so you don't get it all greasy.
10:31But I think it's a really amazing resource to have.
10:33Oh, great.
10:34Yeah.
10:35And did you pick particular things to sort of put on show?
10:37Yeah.
10:38We gravitated more towards the kind of like physical handwritten stuff that he'd done
10:42because I think it's so important to be able to see the process behind finished products,
10:47be able to kind of see into the mind of a creative at any time and see the kind of little doubts
10:51and sparks of inspiration.
10:52And I think it's so interesting.
10:53They're sort of lyrics with bits crossed out.
10:55Yeah.
10:56And like there's like stains, little drawings of things.
11:00Yeah.
11:01So you're going to be performing the scythe next.
11:04Tell us about that.
11:05Like a scythe.
11:06You're holding a scythe, aren't you?
11:07Like sort of the Grim Reaper.
11:09Well, it's about how relationships ending are like death and it's about grief and grief
11:13of real death, grief of death of relationships, things coming to an end, that kind of, you
11:18know, pain.
11:19Well, it's really great.
11:20Honestly, the band sound better and better.
11:21We look forward to hearing you at the end of the show.
11:23Thank you for joining us very much indeed.
11:25Thank you for having us.
11:26Abigail and Emily from Last Dinner Party.
11:32Next, a brand new artist who found songwriting gave him a spiritual awakening.
11:38Please welcome Tyler Ballgame.
11:53I saw my old son in his brave song.
11:58Doesn't know he had a feeling when he wakes up.
12:03Got a new car.
12:05Hear me started.
12:07I was feeling, feeling bright when I bought it.
12:11People go, do a cannonball.
12:16He'll be in your mouth like an animal.
12:20Headlights and shouters, you can tell me all about it.
12:25When he was going.
12:26When he bought time undertaking.
12:40Put some friction in the fiction we were making.
12:44Tyler Ballgame.
12:45Tyler Ballgame.
12:46But it brought his hopes up.
12:48Disrespected like a blue Kentucky quote.
12:52A back swing stings like a catty hole.
12:57Keep me in your prayers like an atom bomb.
13:01Don't blame and stand it.
13:04It's the only thing that matters when you die.
13:09I want to be the one to let you into your love.
13:14Oh boy.
13:18You know I love it when you lie to me, lie to me.
13:28On the waitway.
13:31Was scared of what could go wrong.
13:37On the waitway.
13:40What's there?
13:42What could go wrong?
13:48Held a seance.
13:51Left my body.
13:53Looking back.
13:55It's a little Mary Toddy.
13:58Met a monkey.
14:00Stuck his brains out.
14:02Took his job.
14:04When the music never played out.
14:06Do you fool now.
14:08Do a cannonball.
14:10You in your mouth like an animal.
14:15No one's gonna tout us, but they'll tell you all about us when we die.
14:22I want to be the one to let you into your love.
14:32You know I love it when you lie to me, lie to me.
14:41I want to be the one to let you into your love.
14:48You know I love it when you lie to me, lie to me.
14:54You know I love it when you lie to me, lie to me, lie to me, lie to me.
15:13Excellent.
15:19Tyler Borgaine.
15:23Next, we welcome an artist with her first new music in five years,
15:27with an exclusive performance of a song from her forthcoming album,
15:31Woman of Faces.
15:33Please welcome Celeste.
15:43Different days come, different weather, I know when I'm with you.
16:11I just know now we're not together, missing you's what I do.
16:23And you are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well.
16:35People always change, it's just no good for me cause I just ain't the same.
16:51And you know I'll be still as I remain, there's just no one for me cause people always change.
17:05People always change, it's just no good for me cause I just ain't the same.
17:15Yeah you know I'll be still as I remain, there's just no one for me cause people always change.
17:31I'm not ready to forget yet, though I know I must try.
17:43People like you, people like you, people like me, know the heart doesn't lie.
17:53And you are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well.
18:07And you are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well.
18:17And you are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well.
18:33People always change, it's just no good for me cause I just ain't the same.
18:46And you know I'll be still as I remain, there's just no one for me cause people always change.
18:58In a world that won't move.
19:04I get sick of it sometimes, in a world without you.
19:15I get sick of it sometimes, in a world without you.
19:25I get sick of it then I'll find, in a world that can't replace you.
19:35I can't see, so if you miss the way, the way it used to be, you could call my name.
19:51And I'll be there, and I'll be there, and I'll hurry on the way.
19:57I won't be watching you, but people always change.
20:01I'll be here and see, so if you miss you.
20:07You, are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well, are the one who knew me well.
20:56I thought I was nearly there.
21:18Wonderful.
21:19So let's.
21:21Accompanied by Seth Evans, piano beautifully.
21:25Now, a change of atmosphere performing on British television for the first time.
21:30Our next guest has just released her seventh album, Girls.
21:34With a mashup of two songs from that, please welcome Princess Nokia.
23:53kke ginger.
23:54Bye.
23:55Love you.
23:56I'm David Lynchp Lee.
23:57Nobody's nothing bad.
23:58вызなんakenie runking.
23:59After 12 kids follow up.
24:00And I've been updated.
24:01If only I could understand the reason for my crying.
24:02If only I could stop this fear of dreaming, and I'm dying.
24:15I am very girly, and also very violent.
24:17I'm the she-devil witch is a bow and the tyrant.
24:20I'm the whistleblower when men try to make us silent
24:22I'm the older woman, unmarried and undecided
24:25And I don't want kids, wouldn't do it if you pay me
24:28For the games to be different to the modern days
24:30But I agree, I hope you drop off a cliff
24:33I showed up to that funeral, took that hot shit
24:36I'm so tired of performative divinity
24:38Manipulating women with kindness is such a sin to me
24:41Premeditated and pretended to be a friend to me
24:44And ripped my wings while I'm sleeping
24:45You're fucking dead to me
24:47Never lose the blood of the moon in her eyes
24:49Helmabusa make a grown man cry
24:52Helmabusa has the death on her lips
24:54Catch the Holy Spirit, rebuke the bed
24:57You're emotionally reckless and very fucking lustful
25:00Jerking off the pictures of the girls you like to lie to
25:02I will undisguise you, bring you to the light
25:05You're a fucking predator standing in plain sight
25:08Come and fuck me in the front seat
25:09Wait until you fuck me, be a fucking man
25:12Go and tell me that you love me
25:13I fuck like a fairy and make love like a god
25:16The feeling inside, the infinity and beyond
25:18Helmabusa blood moon in her eyes
25:21Helmabusa make a grown man cry
25:24Helmabusa kiss of death on her lips
25:26Catch the Holy Spirit, rebuke the bed
25:29Helmabusa blood moon in her eyes
25:31Helmabusa make a grown man cry
25:34Helmabusa kiss of death on her lips
25:37Catch the Holy Spirit, rebuke the bed
25:39ślę, rebuke the bed
25:40grief and a large heart
25:42You're a large heart
26:00It's the first time I ever felt like this
26:23I always thought I had no pure bliss
26:28Even though I had a perfect kiss
26:41Reading your lips is like a film with a twig
26:46And I'm here
26:58They say there's nothing in their feelings
27:04Deeper and deeper
27:08I don't feel like you're in a boy
27:14Right now
27:17Not while I got my head in the clouds
27:22I couldn't help but get interested
27:31After seeing that thing you did
27:37Bound water under the bridge
27:42Deeper and deeper
27:49I don't feel like coming apart
27:55Right now
27:58Not while I got my head in the clouds
28:04It's deeper and deeper
28:08This cloud of mine didn't beat me
28:14Yeah
28:14You know it's safe in it
28:17It seems to be a long way down
28:22When wash comes shut
28:25It's only ever about the ones we love
28:29When you turn from above
28:35You have to realize we're ending love
28:38No matter where you are
28:44You'll always be on fire
28:46At the top of my heart
28:47At the top of my heart
29:01So long as it's over
29:04They've been playing outside of my mind
29:07Deeper and deeper
29:12I don't feel like coming apart
29:17I was feeling weird, but we are gifted and supreme.
29:37My jersey went by day, everything became clear to me.
29:47Thank you to Starlacons for deeper and deeper from their new album, We Are Love.
30:13Now, at the piano, I'm so thrilled and delighted to welcome my dear friend, Celeste.
30:19Very nice to see you. So pleased to have you back on the show.
30:24And you've got this wonderful album about to come out, coming out in November.
30:30Woman of Faces. Where does that title come from?
30:33Actually, it's quite an unusual and I suppose quite an interesting story in that actually a lady who goes by the name Kiddo, because she's a writer and an artist herself, she met somebody who I've worked with for many years.
30:47And she said, I just have the feeling that I need to give this title to Celeste.
30:51And she said, the title is Woman of Faces.
30:54And I knew in the time that I was working on my album, I was waiting for a title.
31:00And I knew what it needed to feel like and what it needed to explain.
31:04And when I heard that, I knew this is the title.
31:07And I suppose it kind of just came to me in that way.
31:10So did you meet when she gave it to her? Did she was just in the post anonymously?
31:13By a pigeon.
31:15Eventually we met and we didn't actually write the song together.
31:19I ended up writing the song with a friend of mine in London called Matt Maltese.
31:23And we did it in 2023 actually.
31:26And we went to an old rehearsal space because I just started to feel like being in studios was kind of clouding my judgment.
31:34And the way I wanted to write, I wanted to write really freely and without the sense that you have to walk away with something that day.
31:41So I went to this rehearsal space and we just had our laptop and a microphone and did it like that.
31:48The song earlier sounded fantastic.
31:50Oh, thank you.
31:51Seth's a great piano player and he said that was lovely.
31:52Yeah.
31:53And when you were growing up, what were some of the things you were listening to?
31:56When I was growing up, it's hard to remember now.
32:00Well, the first thing as I heard were Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald.
32:06But then also I remember my mum playing The Clash and playing like some of the dance music from the 80s
32:12with like some of those soul vocalists that were then on kind of house music and stuff.
32:17So it was always those kind of big soul voices that I was hearing and always kind of attracted to and drawn to.
32:25And also people that just had like a way of expressing themselves that was not holding back, I suppose.
32:31Sam Cooke was one of those, wasn't he?
32:33Yeah.
32:34It was a great song actually that Sam Cooke did as a duet.
32:36Should we give it a go?
32:37Okay.
32:38His song, That Wouldn't Mean.
32:39If you ever change your mind
33:03About leaving, leaving me behind
33:11Oh, won't you bring your love
33:14Bring your sweet love
33:18Bring it on to me
33:22Yeah
33:24I know I loved when you left
33:34But now I know I only love myself
33:41Why don't you bring your love
33:44Bring your sweet love
33:48Bring it on to me
33:51I give you my heart
33:58I give you my mind
34:02But that's not all
34:05All I leave behind
34:08If you bring your love
34:12Bring your sweet love
34:15Bring it on to me
34:18Hey
34:21Hey
36:27It'll take you too.
36:29Take a long time.
36:47Keep the water on.
36:51Keep it running.
36:55I'm in the other room.
37:01Nothing happened.
37:05Make it quick.
37:09Make it quick.
37:11Make it quick.
37:13Make it quick.
37:15Make it quick.
37:17Make it quick.
37:19Make it quick.
37:21Make it quick.
37:23Make it quick.
37:25Make it quick.
37:27Make it quick.
37:29Make it quick.
37:31Make it quick.
37:33Make it quick.
37:35Make it quick.
37:37Make it quick.
37:39Make it quick.
37:41Next time I know you're gone
37:46Put your record on
37:54Keep it spinning
37:59Under the LEDs
38:03Until I'm seasick
38:10Nothing lost
38:15Nothing lost
38:20Nothing lost
38:22I know I've seen the sight in the sheets
38:29Don't cry, we're bound together
38:35Each line runs this cold
38:40I'll see you in the next one
38:45Next time I know you're gone
38:50Next time you're gone
38:55I'll be your girl
38:57You'll be in silk
39:00And I'll wear my fuzz
39:02We can go out
39:04I'll fill your mouth
39:07Open me up
39:09Butcher my heart
39:11Please let me die
39:13Let me die
39:14On the street where you live
39:24And don't cry, we're here forever
39:29As I promise go
39:34I'll be here in the next one
39:39Next time you know I'll fall
39:44Don't cry, we're bound together
39:49Each line runs this cold
39:54I'll be here in the next one
39:59Next time I know you're gone
40:03I'll be here in the next one
40:05I'll be here in the next one
40:06I'll be here in the next one
40:08The next one
40:09I'll be here in the next one
40:10The next one
40:26The next one
40:30I'll be here in the next one
40:32Don't cry, we're bound together
40:34I'll see you in the next room
40:37Next time I know you're poor
40:42Good night, featured on their new album, From the Fire.
40:59The Last Zero Party.
41:04Excellent. Thank you to all of my wonderful guests here this evening.
